We had dinner there as a family. The top floor was full, so we were seated on the ground floor, which had an ok view, but not spectacular. The kids ordered moussaka, but didn't like it at all. I had the pork steak (large pork chop), which tasted good (but wasn't lean enough for me), and the hubby had lamb and ocra which he loved (but he loves everything). The service was slow, it took quite a while both to get the menus and the food. I think it's one of the less exciting meals we've had while in Crete.

Vigli restaurant is situated at the very top of the hill in Up Platanias (old town) and is one of several restaurants that claim the title of highest restaurant in Platanias. As it's at the top, the climb is a steep one but very worthwhile.
We initially walked to the top of the hill to have a look at the old town and backstreets and see what the view was like....that's when we found Vigli. There are some very steep steps carved out of rock and lined with oregano that lead to the restaurant, which is set over two levels. Being lunchtime and in need of liquid refreshment we had a beer and took in the amazing views of the main strip, harbour and the hills and mountains. We didn't stay very long but upon paying, we were given free samples of the local Ouzo by one of the family members that run the place (mum, dad, gran, son, cousin etc etc).
We then decided later on that day to stretch our legs again and go back for dinner.
Another climb took us back to a warm welcome by most of the family.
The food was excellent with tender steak, fresh lamb chops and homemade chips....a bottle of local wine brought the bill to about 45 euros. We were then treated to what seemed like half a carafe of Ouzo together with slices of mamas homemade cake at no extra cost!!!
Vigli restaurant has got it all.....excellent food, excellent friendly family service and great views.
All they need is a cable car to get you there!!!
