We arrived late on and were greeted warmly by Kostas who showed us to our room and offered to phone out for pizza for us, we declined his kind offer as we fancied a leg stretch and a brief look around the village before bed, Our room was basic but spotlessly clean, there were facilities to make simple meals if you wanted, our room was tidied every day and the bedding and towels were changed 3 times. We had a large terrace at the back with space to sit out and a rack to dry clothing on, this backed on to an olive grove with a tantalising glimpse of the sea if you looked between the trees. One reviewer has described these lower rooms as being in the basement, not really as the place is built on a slope so the lower floors are downstairs from the bar and pool area, the apartments are on 3 levels. The whole place was always very clean and tidy, the owners Helen and George and Kostas were warm and friendly. We enjoyed the BBQ on the Saturday night, especially Kostas dancing! The pool was small but perfectly formed and just right for a refreshing plunge to cool off. The village of Piskopiano and the 2 neighbouring villages offer a wealth of places within an easy walk to eat delicious Greek food and try the local wine and Raki. It really is a foodies paradise. Down the hill you can visit Hersonnisos and hire a sunbed for a couple of Euros, there are boat trips that leave daily from the port. Visit the Touring Club office to book some really good trips, we went to Knossos, the Lassithi Plateau and Spinalonga, all recommended, But really, the stand out memory of this holiday was how welcome we were made to feel. If you wanted to join in and chat to your fellow guests and the owners then you could, again, if you wanted to be left alone then that was fine too. Just beware of a night cap from Kostas, those big lovely glasses of cold white wine were STRONG!! It's a cliche that I'm happy to use - we arrived as strangers and we left as friends. We really do hope to return some day.

Just got back from Matheos studios, booked this holiday last year after reading good reviews on trip advisor so was alarmed to see a posting earlier this year describing these apartments as dirty.Well what a load of codswallop, the studio we had was cleaned daily to a good standard, yes the pool is small but you can tell that from the photos, yes the bar can be noisy on a night until they shut the doors but you are on holiday join in and enjoy other guests company and Costas and Helens great service. We are not Helens family or friends before we went but certainly came back as friends and will return sometime as the wife is missing Costas baileys coffee!

Like most people we did check out Trip Advisor and yes you sometimes do get a negative review the pool may be small but is adequate for a refreshment dip now and again on a long hot day in the sun. Although after just returning on 14th May I must say this is one of the better holiday's our group really enjoyed. The host's Helen,George and Kosta's are brilliant at what they do. The Complex is very clean and has a great atmosphere (especially if you have a good crowd of guests) which we did. Also a must is the BBQ which is on a Saturday evening.
We will be back and very soon I hope.

Unlike the perception given in the advertising, Matheos is more than compact. There is limited room to lie out by the 'swimming pool' which is really only suitable as a children's play puddle in a corner that has a maximum depth of 0.9mtrs. Whether anyone would want to is another story, with the constant 60's, 70's and 80's music banging on all day and well into the early hours. Relax you won't. Our room was in the basement and was filthy. The patios, surrounded by 6 feet high fencing on top of a wall, clearly signals a security issue. The view? None unless you like staring directly into olive trees! No privacy whatever from neighbours. Even if you wanted to sit out in the late evening/night for a coffee or relax with a glass of something, you couldn't. There were several sensor lights. Another reason why we thought there must be a security problem. No way you could open the window at night as the close proximity of the olive trees seemed to attract millions of mosquitoes. The room was stifling. As a consequence we spent very little time there but if you want to go to a beach, some sort of transport is a must, (we hired a scooter). We were not just disappointed with the accommodation - we were disgusted and we hope our review will serve as a valid warning to those who might just be fooled by the clever little arrangements in the advertisement photos - just like we were. It was not overly expensive but ultimately it cost in all different sorts of ways. You're better off paying that little bit more. The little village and the neighbouring one Koutoulefari are really nice with some fine restaurants, which we had fun finding. Our verdict: the area - lovely, the accommodation - dreadful.

Room Tip: Avoid the basement with a purpose!!
