Arc en Ciel boasts 'simple' rooms, and this is true, but they have everything you need, and are very clean, cosy and relaxing. Gorgeous views, ample facilities, friendly staff, gorgeous food and ideally situated for easy access up to the slopes. Only disappointment was that it said half board would include a 4 course meal when infact it was only 3. Chatel is a little too far to walk in ski boots but the free bus comes every 20 mins which is excellent. Chatel itself has some lovely shops, bars, restaurants and is very authentic and pretty, and bigger than I expected. The atmosphere is very nice in the village, and in the hotel. The slopes are ample for a weekend, and for only an extra 10 euros or so you can venture right across the portes du soleil which is massive. Highly recommend the hotel, simple but ample, and very pretty.

Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and our group had a great time. Good value for money- 350 quid for two people half board for 3 nights is not bad in a ski resort. The management team were helpful and friendly and we were happy with the food on offer.
The rooms are clean and secure but they are small. Ok if you are a couple but too small for friends sharing. There is one waiter who did appear to be anti - English and very rude. However all other staff encountered were lovely. We were offered an extended check out til 4pm at no extra charge so we could make the most of the skiing and still get changed and showered before our flight.
It is a 20 minute walk to Chatel Centre and not recommended in ski boots but the bus service is free and reliable. We ventured into town for evening drinks and didn't find the trek back too torturous.
All in all a good choice for a weekend ski break.

Stayed at the hotel in early January with a group of friends. We stayed at slightly larger room from our friends, which was clean and tidy. Bed was big and comfortable. Our friends were not as pleased with smaller rooms that had smaller beds and little room to move around.
Hotel is located a good 30minutes walk from Chatel centre, so not as good for those wishing to eat out in the evenings.
The food and service...were do I begin? 100% agree with other reviewers about the service and attitude of the staff. You would expect nice regional food and friendly service but NO! I often felt causing a lot of pain for the staff members by staying there. Speaking French did not help at all. Service was sloppy and rude. On our first evening we were seated outside the main dining area and had to wait about 1.5 before we got first course on the table having been wrongly advised what we will be eating. That evening we ate totally different menu from the rest of Half Board dinners and nobody really explained anything. All other evenings there were no proper explanations about the menu and we ended up eating what served. The food was average, nothing special and pretty blend. Drinks were often late. Breakfast buffet was average. Very strange choice of offering customers to boil their own eggs which was a mission to get it properly boiled at a very low temperature set. Fresh bread was the only good thing for breakfast. Breakfast service, again very sloppy.
Hotel claims to have a sauna and relaxation area. I personally cannot call a metre wide and long shed type of room without proper insulation to be a SAUNA. It was freezing and not ready for use at all. 4 people could hardly fit in there. Next to so called 'sauna', there was a balcony facing car parking which had a hot tub, which wasn't very clean. I suggest not to have hight hopes of enjoying relaxing time after skiing. Also, hotel charges EUR 10 per person for the use sauna/hot tub/pool!
The ski lift next to hotel takes you Barbossine. But we often took the bus that stops next to hotel to take us to other lifts. Hotel did not offer bus timetable and no further information on the transportation.
Overall, this hotel requires a lot of improvement and management should consider staff attitude first. Customer service and overall facilities management need to be improved.
Would not stay there again.

Bonjour.

We were shocked as to how bad this restaurant was and can only echo the other reviews regarding the unbelievably rude waiter. 30 minutes after having ordered we had still not received any drinks or starters so we politely asked the young man if he could chase up our order as our waitress had disappeared - it was as if we had asked him to run around naked outside in the snow! He rudely told us that he did not wait on our table and it was not his problem. He is a disgrace and has a real attitude problem. Don't eat here it really isn't worth it.

Quaint it looks, but utter disappointment on so many levels. We booked a luxury room for 2 and whilst checking in realised there was no room available and hence we were ushered to a standard broom cupboard without any explanation. C'est Le Vie, we planned on skiing hard so figured we would be tired anyway. However this management style extended to all areas of the hotel and came across as being very rude. In particular the restaurant waiter / young man who should not be front of house at all. Clearly he has issues with the English, despite 95% of the hotel guests being so. Unbelievably rude and I hope the management take action from this review, to dispense with his services. The hotel is poorly placed for popping into town for dinner or drinks. It is an arduous 20min slog there and back with no option for taxi or bus. The hotel food had to be the low light of the stay. Utterly terrible with continued use of bread, cheese and lardons. Not once did we receive any meat or variety and it left our entire group with stomach issues come the fourth night. Seriously bad food and served with total apathy and attitude. I recommend you do not stay here.

Think carefully before booking this hotel before your next skiing holiday; booking.com score is well over-inflated compared to the true experience you will have.

I could write a book about what is wrong with this hotel but I'll keep it simple:

-at least a 20 min wall to the town downhill with the joy of walking back in the freezing cold at the end of the evening. No offer of a courtesy car and no taxis to be found in town.
- there is an infrequent bus service up until about 6:30pm. Skiing has to end in town so using this bus service is mandatory.
- the service is muddled and unprofessional. Some individuals make up for it by being helpful, others are positively rude and I can only believe take pleasure from being awkward and saying 'non'!
- children get dressed in the main office area while three people pour over a screen producing four different bills for our stay. We eventually opted for the cheapest.
- they do have free wifi. There the positives end. There are lottery number put on the wall which allows you access that describes the likelihood of logging in. Even on the 10th attempt and you making it in, accompanied by the roar of success, be quick, because once it logs you out you have to go through the procedure again.
- the decor at first seem attractive with wooden and slate Decor, typical of the region. Further detail reveals a strange plaster on the rooms which looks like the undercoat before the tiler is brought in.
- the food would give French cooking a bad name, and was more akin to a student's budget offering than a three star hotel.
- some little home comfort would have changed the mood with say, some tea and cake after skiing, or a complementary drink on arrival or even to be shown the facilities in the pool. Staff are rushing around so much that nobody can be concerned by such distractions!
- breakfast was a stampede and if you weren't eating by 8:30am then cheese, ham and milk were gone.
- there were redeeming features. As I said some of the family members were helpful and there was the making of a really nice hotel. Also it is only a small walk to the ski lift station although the skiing on this side of the mountain would be for intermediates and above.

In short, for the price paid, they really need to up their game, and if you want to hit the town at night and have a few drinks then forget it.
