Stuey has run Skialot.com for 10 years. I've stayed with him several times - often with big work groups and, most recently, by gatecrashing my sister, family and friends' ski trip. The skiing in Chatel is fantastic - Chatel and the the whole Porte de Soleil region have runs for everyone. The chalet is huge - sleeping 20 or so. There's a small bar with music and "honesty bar", a den with games machines and TVs, a dining room plus a sauna and jacuzzi. It all has an honest, down to earth feel - don't expect boutique hotels standards of fixtures and fittings. You'll be safe, warm, comfortable and well fed. However, Stuey himself is the factor that makes all the difference. The guy has boundless enthusiasm, nothing is too much trouble and he genuinely cares about his guests - whether he's collecting from Geneva (in his superb bus) or guiding you off-piste at the top of the mountains. Stuey is the most generous, supportive host (and a pretty good unofficial ski coach too!). This year, my sister's teenage kids had a great time. The chalet is big enough that they didn't feel constrained and Stuey is very relaxed as long as other guests aren't suffering. Their verdict was "far better than a hotel". Stuey has lots of "regulars" many of whom starting staying with him when he first opened and now return with their kids. There is always a great house-party atmosphere - everyone eats together and even solo travellers are likely to fit in well. If you want style and luxury, stay somewhere else. However, Stuey summed it up whilst driving me to the station - he says his place is perfect for those that want great skiing, a few beers, some relaxation, some fun and a sensible price.
