We only intended to eat at Le Renard one day of our holiday, but the food was so good we had to eat there every day. Good wine and beer and excellent ambience. Get a table by the wood burning fire in the winter to warm up after a days skiing....

In our younger, skiing days, we stayed at le renard several times and always thoroughly enjoyed ourselves so it was a great relief to find that after 12 years it hasn't changed and still offers a wonderful service with excellent food and comfortable accommodation. This time we went with our son, wife and their 3 children. We had 3 of the 5 rooms on a half board arrangement - although being the end of the season we actually had the place to ourselves!
Being half boarders meant that we had a choice of 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 puds each night (apart from Tuesdays when they close). It doesn't sound much of a choice but believe me the food is absolutely wonderful and very plentiful. How they make such delightful and interesting salads as a starter I'll never know. One word of warning though - if you decide on the pork dish you basically get a joint that would normally feed a family of 4, it is huge! Wine was included with the meal which was a real bonus.
Breakfasts were very adequate with lovely croissants, bread jam, cereals, eggs etc.
The rooms are quite small but more than adequate and were immaculately clean. They have a lovely balcony with table and chairs. Our room faced the fast moving stream which was quite loud but in a very soothing way. Unfortunately we never got to sample the outdoor hot tub but that was our fault.
All in all a wonderful stay, many thanks Rob and Mathilde.

We stayed at hotel le Renard in Chatel during a ski holiday in March 2014.
The rooms were big enough, clean and the beds were very fine! The rooms were cleaned every day. The (ski)bus stops realy right in front of the hotel, but we also walked, now and than, to the gondel, witch was oke too.
The personel in the hotel was very nice and helpfull.
The food was very nice and the bar was cosy.
We (specialy the kids) enjoyed going in the whirlpool afther skiing.
One point to improve is the basement, where we did not like to be (dark/no windows/not cosy).
To all the crew: Thank you for the nice holiday!!

Room Tip: The rooms 1-5 are above the restaurant, and are about the same. The rooms 6-7 and 8 are in a seperat...

This is the second time I have stayed at Le Renard and it was again perfect. I stayed half board for 7 nights with a group of friends while out snowboarding.

The hotel is within walking distance of the Linga lift or there is a bus stop just down the road if you want to go up into town or to another lift.

The food is consistently incredible and Rob, Mathilde and their staff are always friendly and helpful.

The hotel is peaceful in the evenings but there is always a great friendly atmosphere at the bar amongst staff, locals and other visitors. The jacuzzi is a relaxing bonus outside in the snow after a long day on the slopes.

I can't wait to return in the summer for the mountain bike season.

Have just returned from a stay at Le Renard and can thoroughly recommend it - very friendly and helpful staff, clean and tidy rooms and topped off with a fantastic varied menu. Ending a day on the slopes with a dip in the riverside hot tub was a bonus. Highly recommended and will certainly stay there again.

Just back from a totally fantastic week staying at Le Renard. The food and service at this small chalet hotel is nothing short of superb. Every single meal was delicious but the Christmas and NY feasts were outstanding - beautifully presented and very high quality. It's a totally unpretentious place and the rooms are of the traditional small chalet style - it's not swanky, but our room was very comfortable, spotlessly clean and there was always plenty of piping hot water. It's only a short walk to the bus stop or the Linga lift so it's also in a convenient location. I would highly recommend this place, Rob, Mathilde and the staff are lovely - I hope I can manage to go back sooner rather than later !

We visited Le Renard in February. We had an amazing time and were well looked after by Rob, Mathilde and all of the front and back of house throughout our stay. The food was fantastic and portions were huge. The atmosphere in the bar was very warm with lots of different people coming through every evening sharing their tales. Rooms were warm and cozy if not luxurious. The hot tub is situated right by the river with overhanging snow covered trees. Beautiful! Hotel is located right beside the bus stops with the option to go up to Super Chatel, to Linga lift or Pre la Joux - if you're not fussy where you start the day then just take the next bus that comes along. The hotel is not located in the centre of Chatel but rather at the bottom of the town (near the Linga lift). This means that there are not lots of bars or restaurants nearby so it's a bit quieter than the main town. For us this was perfect. The restaruant is regarded as the best in the village so you won't want to go anywhere else! Similarly if you want to have a drink in Chatel after skiing you can get bus back to the hotel. All round great stay and lovely holiday.
