“A fantastic appartment in the heart of Roussillon”

A beautiful place to spend some days in the Luberon! Gorgeous views from the terrace (and the windows of the appartment) and the interior tastefully decorated. Also very well equipped with big pots and pans, hair-dryer, ironing board and anything else you may need.
We will definitely stay here again when we visit the area. The appartment and Roussillon really offer the perfect setting for a wonderful vacation.

Rousillon is a great base for exploring and Roussillon House is just the best base in the village with shops and restaurants at the front door and the ever-changing light show animating the forested ochre hills from the wide glass living room doors and terrace at the back.
The house is very well equipped and charmingly and unfussily decorated.
The ambience and views are so good you'll need to push yourself to leave the house.

“A beautiful home in Roussillon”

This is a beautiful home in Roussillon - beautifully furnished and very comfortable. It is spacious (2 levels), very clean and central to Roussillon and the rest of Provence. The views from the terrace are exceptional and never ceased to impress us. It was great to start a day with a coffee and relax watching the ochre cliffs. Families with young children should be aware that the stairs are steep and don’t have a railing on the lower landing. We visited with two adult children (18 and 20), so this was not a problem. The owner's communication was excellent and everything was as shown on website, and as expected. Plenty of good restaurants nearby and bakeries etc. We highly recommend this place.

“Perfect location to explore luberon”
Reviewed October 5, 2015 for a stay in September 2015

This little house/flat is right in the middle of town. You need to park in the lower lot and walk in on the pedestrian street which is part of the charm. 4 of us spent 4 nights and found it a great base for exploring the region. Comfortable 3 bedrooms, well equipped kitchen and lovely view of the surrounding hills from the upstairs terrace. 2 baths, but only 1 shower, but worked for our group. Property manager, Kelley is very responsive and handled everything smoothly. Be sure to go to Chez David and Piquebarre restaurants which are both an easy walk from the house. A great deal for the price.

“Beautiful and serene!”

My husband, young teens and I had a wonderful visit to this lovely small house in Roussillon. Here are pros and cons we experienced; the positives easily outweighed the few issues.

Pro:
Location, location, location. This house is in the heart of Roussillon, a gorgeous hilltop town in Provence whose colors have inspired painters and which hosts numerous art galleries. The red front door is on a quiet central square, next to an ice cream shop (which still has the awning of the previous shop, a patisserie) and steps from a good lunch café.

The town is somewhat touristy but the house has thick walls and is quiet enough to get a good night's sleep - we had no problems with noise even though a few of the restaurants stay open late.

The town contains, all within a short walk, a grocery store, charcuterie/butcher, pharmacy, baker/patisserie, numerous art galleries, restaurant/cafes, and ice cream parlors, as well as gourmet grocery and souvenir shops. Just outside the town is the Sentier des Ocres, a gentle hike through ochre–colored hills.

Attractive décor: white walls and whitewashed wood; white spiral stair; a few tasteful wall decorations here and there. The upstairs bathroom, for example, has a white vintage tub, shelf with carefully arranged shells, and mirror surrounded by weathered wood.

Terrace with great view. The cool terrace, paved with large bricks, provides a fabulous view of tile roofs, treetops in the valley below, picturesque houses far away, and nothing to mar the sight. On the terrace are a table, chairs, and large potted olive tree and flowering plants. We had breakfasts on the terrace, and our kids played games there. Curtained glass doors from the family room (with TV and couches) and from the adjoining dining room lead onto the terrace.

Kitchen. The kitchen has basics - plates, glasses and mugs, utensils, corkscrew, chef's knives and cooking implements, pots and pans, tea ball - as well as copper sinks and a large professional–looking gas stove. It also has a dishwasher, refrigerator/freezer, coffee maker, automatic tea pot, and microwave, all of which worked fine for us. You also receive whatever supplies the hosts or previous guests may have left: plastic wrap, salt and pepper, tea, coffee, filters, olive oil, dishwashing soap, etc.

The windows, which open when desired and are not screened, all have curtains. Two of the bedrooms, including the master, have lovely views of tile roofs and treetops and the valley beyond. One bedroom (the room with two twin beds) has a view of the coral wall on the other side of a picturesque alley one walks up to reach the house from behind.

The house has a store room stocked with French and English games, summer reading and DVDs. It also contained clothing racks, folding chairs, an iron and ironing board. Other helpful touches included umbrellas in an urn by door, a market basket on hooks by the door, and shelves and/or drawers in each room, including a wardrobe with plenty of hangers in the master.

The house has three bathrooms. Two are downstairs (one has a toilet; the other has a sink, ample counter space, and smallish shower with a good shower head). The one upstairs has the tub. Water pressure was good, and there was no problem with adjusting the temperature.

The wi/fi worked well. The password is in the binder of information at the house.

The owner and property manager speak English; the owner lives in England and the property manager lives in a nearby town and came to meet us, provide the key and show us around the house when we arrived. She was very helpful and the handover was smooth.

Cons:
No a/c. We visited in mid-July, and the first night and following day were sweltering. Fortunately, the rest of our stay was more temperate, with cool evenings, and we needed the blankets on the beds those nights. We left the drapes closed during the day and opened the windows at night and during cool mornings – there weren't any mosquitoes to speak of. There is a fan in each bedroom, and we used those as well. On the temperate days, this worked well.

Towels. My husband and I each received a bath towel and a hand towel. Since I use washcloths to wash my face morning and night, I purchased a set and left them for the house.

Dryer. Despite several suggestions from the owner, we could not get the dryer to work – every button combination we tried turned out to be another method of starting a wash cycle. Ultimately, I gave up and dried the laundry on clothing racks. I would have preferred using a dryer to remove lint and minimize the need for ironing.

Some of the art on the walls is a bit eclectic. It doesn't matter, however, and my kids liked the paintings.

The staircase only has a handrail for the top portion. This would not be safe for families with young children or anyone with balance issues, since it would be easy to trip and fall.

We thank our guests for taking the time to give this very comprehensive review of their holiday at the Roussillon House. This will be very helpful for future guests in helping them plan their holiday.
We regret that our guests were not able to use the drying function on the washer dryer despite the instructions but the warm weather and the clothes rack made drying clothes very quick and easy on the terrace.
As for the art, this is always a subjective thing and we are glad some of the pieces were appreciated.

“Beautiful views from this clean and spacious property”

This property was as advertised, with the most beautiful views over the valley. The house was very spacious and very clean, and at the same time was also comfortable and homely.

We used the home as a base to explore the Luberon area and also as a rest break during our European holiday. The property was very well suited to both these needs with the use of a car.

The only reason I am not rating this property 5/5, is that I found the bed and lounges a little soft. In every other aspect the house was excellent and exceeded my expectations.

As advertised, the house is over two levels. The stairs and the upstairs windows are not completely railed. For this reason the house may not be suitable for everyone eg families with young children. This was not an issue for us.

We would love to return to the house and Roussillon and thank the owner and agent for renting this property to us.

We thank our guests for booking with us & giving a generally very positive review to our property but especially for taking the trouble to draw to our attention what needed improving to make their stay even better. We have taken on-board this feedback and have replaced both the mattress and sofa identified as being “soft”. We hope that this will further improve the level of comfort of our guests in the future.
