This walk is right outside the village. We did the long route which took maybe 30 minutes (it's really silly that they even charge an entrance fee). If you've ever been to Sedona you won't be impressed. It's great for kids, or artists, or photographers, or if you just want to escape into some pretty nature and view the colors and flowers and relax in some peace and quiet. There are information plates along the way to tell you what you are looking at.

This lovely walk through the former ocher quarry of Roussillon is definitely something you should do if visiting the village. There are "long" and "short" routes through the site, but even the long route is an easy walk for any reasonably fit person and shouldn't take more than an hour. The entire village is composed of the red rock, making it a worthwhile stop if village-hopping through the Luberon, but unless you are already planning a day in Roussillon, I wouldn't go out of my way to visit the quarry.

Impressed by the beginning rock formations and a couple of others during the long path, but mostly it's just a path of soft red sand through the woods. Some pretty wildflowers, lots of ups and downs and about 50 steps going back up to the top at the end. The long track is said to take about 50 minutes, but without rushing it took me about 35-40. Luckily, it wasn't expensive. Nice family walk, and pleasant, but not what I was expecting from the description. The cemetery at the end was very interesting though...don't miss that with its beautiful backdrop of Rouissillon. Pay for parking in the town...if you can find a parking spot that is.

We did not have time (or energy) to take the hike, but it was lovely to look at from high above in the town. The town is tiny but charming and, again, so different looking from other ancient French villages of the area. Do take this detour.

We were lucky to visit this site off-peak season as I'm sure it's not the same experience if it is crowded. The colour of the sand and rocks is incredible. What a surprise! It is a short walk around the Sentier and well worth it. It's definitely just a nature walk and the information on the signs is rather short, but it's fun to visit. Well worth it just for the colours of the sand.
