“Unforgettable...”
Reviewed July 25, 2012

Chateau d'Esparron was definitely the highlight of our trip. It will always be a special place --- my fiancee proposed on the top of the tower, overlooking the beautiful lake. It couldn't have been more perfect! We can't wait to go back.

The chateau is within walking distance to the lake and several restaurants, and there are several beautiful hikes nearby. While it is a historical spot, it really does feel like a quaint b&b with wonderful hosts (thank you Bernard & Charlotte Anne!).

We had the most wonderful stay at this chateau. We only stayed one night - but it was unforgettable. The chateau is completely original - parts from 13th century, i think - and staying there feels almost like time travel. However, the owners have managed to perfectly provide luxury and discrete modern facilities, without losing the historical spell. The room was beautifully decorated but in a very personal, elegant way that you will nevery find in a hotel chain. The count was a perfect host - discrete, but willing to chat about the history, the locality, etc. Breakfast was delicious local produce. Seriously consider staying here - it's a unique experience.

We have just returned from a holiday which will stay in our memories for ever. Charm and history that has been created over the centuries just waiting for us to enjoy. Idyllic with a capital I. We had 2 nights here before moving into the Chateau self catering accommodation which was equally delightful - see separate review on s/c. Our gracious and ever helpful hostess Charlotte -Anne served the most delicious breakfasts. A table laden with French goodies. Although I tried to practice my ancient schoolgirl French there is really no need as the family speak perfect English. We will definitely return.

We were definitely plesantly surprised by so much during our stay here. The friendliness and helpfulness of our Host,a Count, but a man with no pretensions, the charming Bernard and his lovely scottish wife ensured everything was perfect in our stay. The Chateau itself dates back originally to the 11th c with a major build a few hundred years ago. But don't panic, today there are all the mods and cons you need. The breakfast6 was informal, excellent quality ingredients and warm atmosphere. A must in this region. And do have a swim in the nearby man-made lake

I had read about the Chateau in my travel planning over the years but could not make it fit in our itinerary. This year, I did (at last) but for only one night. In our case, clearly not enough time as due to an error on my part, we drove several hours in the wrong direction resulting in a late night arrival. I had hoped for early evening to enjoy the grounds and stroll the village. Oh well. We were there for the castle and even with the late arrival and phone calls to navigate us in, Bernard and Charlotte were so very gracious and welcoming. We didn't have a chance to see the castle properly until the next morning and it was magnificent! Our room was huge and very nicely decorated and thoughtfully equiped. I enjoyed the big deep bath especially after our long travel day. Bernard and Charlotte made sure we were able to get a late dinner at the only tavern in the area still open that night and we had a huge breakfast in the castle kitchen the following morning with an amazing array of foods for just my husband and me. I will put a couple of photos up with this review but honestly, you really need to be there. I won't lie- it is out of the way for many travelers but for a unique experience, off the beaten path, this is a wonderful choice.

This was our first trip with our twins and aupair. They had a 2 room for us that were connected through a shared bathroom. This arrangement was perfect for us. The rooms are just beautiful and are restored perfectly which made the stay even more pleasant for us.

The owners are very nice and friendly. They allowed us access to their private area to store milk for our twins and were more than accommodating given our complicated needs. The breakfast is great and we enjoyed the original kitchen where it was served.

It was a bit cold for us to go to the lake for water activities, but it is there and in our next trip we hope to do some sailing.

My daughter and I stayed only for one night. Would have loved to have stayed for a month. The beautiful building, the welcoming hosts, and bountiful breakfast buffet were perfect. Opening the window and looking out at a field of poppies will be a memory I'll always treasure. The hosts' young son showing us the snails that he had collected just made our morning. A wonderful, magical place!!
