“Eric The Fox - On Top Form”

I have visited the Hotel Hermitage, Montreuil sur Mer, on many occasions now and I am never worried about taking friends there. My most recent visited was with six friends for a golf break and we were not disappointed. The Hotel maintains its excellent standards of customer service, you immediately feel welcome on arrival, with a fast and efficient check-in service and helpful and happy reception staff. The care and attention to service delivery by Eric and Sebastien around the reception and bar area are second to none. I have stayed in hotels all around the world, at all star levels, and I always find that this 3 star, punches well above its weight. This hotel and its wonderful staff are a credit to the Bets Western chain.

On return from a short break chose Hermitage as the tie-up with Wine Society was useful. Not the type of hotel we would normally choose when in France, preferring more the typical French establishment. We were a little disappointed with the cleanliness of carpets but overall fine. Le Jeraboam meal was good but not cheap, especially when one of our party had specifically requested a 'juvenile' portion only to be charged the full price! The position in the town is perfect for atmosphere.

Room Tip: Ask not to overlook the gravel car park! Not only did we have the pleasure of the private cars but...

I thought this was a great place to stay - plenty of character and 'olde worlde' charm. The room we had was spacious with a huge bathroom and all the facilities we needed. Being April we paid an off-peak price which made our stay very good value for money. I reckon it could be quite expensive at the height of the season. On our only night, we ate in the on-site restaurant The Jeroboam and had a very enjoyable meal, accompanied by a bottle of wine purchased from the Wine Society next door (we are members).
I'd certainly recommend this as a decent stopover on the way to or from a Channel crossing.

We have stayed at the Hermitage many times either as part of a longer trip or just a quick visit to pick up some wine - with the benefit that the Wine Society are in the same building.
Another great benefit is that secure parking is included in the Wine Society members rate.
The rooms are large and have everything you need but perhaps without the frills some people might look for. Breakfast is a buffet but is more than adequate for most needs - especially if you are making the most of the local restaurants.
The staff, who have mostly been there for years, are all very friendly and welcoming, and go out of their way to help you, either speaking in English or French depending on your preference and ability.
Being in the town there are plenty of restaurants within walking distance so you can enjoy your food and wine without worrying about driving home!
I'm sure we will be back later this year!

We stayed here over the Easter weekend- taking advantage of the special rates offered to Wine Society members- whilst we enjoyed the stay I'm not sure we'd choose the Hermitage again, primarily based on cost.

Check-in was efficient and friendly, in fact all our interactions with the front desk were handled well, the staff were happy to let us try our French, but also spoke excellent English when we got stuck!

We had a 'comfort' room on the first floor- a huge amount of space, even with a second (single) bed in an alcove, the bathroom was also large- and the windows had a good view over the rooftops of Montreuil to the surrounding countryside.

Issues with the room were that it was difficult to get a comfortable temperature- the radiator was easy to adjust, but seemed to go from off to 'inferno' very quickly, We settled for on, but with frequent opening of the window to cool down- we didn't use the mobile aircon unit as it would have needed a window for the exhaust hose... Also the room door could only be closed by slamming it hard- making quite a lot of noise down the corridor.

The room was well equipped- 2 beds, coffee table, dresser, safe, kettle and TV, and complimentary wifi was available throughout the hotel. because the room was so large it dis feel a bit empty, even with all the furniture- handy if you wanted to ballroom dance I suppose- but felt a little bit sad.

Breakfast was continental, plus pancaked and boiled eggs- the quality and quantity was good, the bar was also pleasant, with good staff- although a little pricey (in line with all hotel bars).

Our rate was 120 Eur/night including Parking and breakfast- which for the quality we thought was on the expensive side, for this reason we'd probably look elsewhere next time we visit.

All in- a good stay, in a mid-scale hotel with good staff and a very impressive building, would recommend to other first timers in Montreuil.

We stayed at the Hotel Hermitage two weekends ago. The staff are welcoming, friendly and helpful. They do a lovely instant hot chocolate; these were very welcome as it was a very cold weekend. The rooms are very good; perhaps a fridge could be added during the warmer times of the year. But that is a very minor issue. There were plenty of hot drinks and the water was re-stocked. The parking was very good and we knew the cars would be safe. The hotel is central; everything is clean. It was warm in the hotel, thank goodness as it was very cold outside. There are several restaurants in MIntreui-sur-Mer, all within walking distance of the Hotel Hermitage. The breakasts were very good; lots of variety and there is a machine/implement for boiling one's own eggs. So you could boil your own eggs to your own wishes. What a good idea. Maybe that will catch on elsewhere. We'll certainly stay at the Hotel Hermitage again next time we visit Montreuil-sur-Mer. It is good value. Therefore, a bientot et merci beaucoup. No more French - I promise!

Room Tip: Montreul-sur-Mer is quiet generally so the hotel is quiet. Noise is not a problem.

We have just arrived home from a three night stay with Great Escapes. The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially Eric who gave us some really good laughs over our stay. Everywhere was very clean, and the beds comfortable. Very good breakfasts, with plenty to choose from. Montreuil-sur-Mer is a very pretty small town, and we would love to go back in the summer to see all the flowers that apparently are displayed all over the town. All the shops and restaurants were very friendly. Definitely place to re-visit.
