“A strange experience.”

An interesting building with eccentric decor that tempted us in. Unfortunately the food was a big disappointment. My wife's chicken was acompanied by some massacred asparagus and my daughter's pizzas were like bricks.

“Nice restaurant in the tourist mile”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 13, 2011

After reading about rip-offs in various shades, we decided on this one after seeing Le Petit Fute sign. A tip - follow this sign. We have never been let down by their advice.
Le Relais Du Roy tries their hand at innovative and upmarket cuisine - the pricing is no different to the others, however, i suspect the quality is. We had the menus for EUR 27 which is quite average for the Mount & surrounds. The choice of starters and mains was good, oysters or moules, or a kind of tuna terrine. That was a bit fishy for my taste - not fresh, I suspect, but caused no lasting damage..mains was cod fish, interesting interpretation with a kind of sweetmeat on top. Cant complain. Desert was icecream for me, and a complete diseaster for my husband. The millefeuille consisted of a kind of limegreen sheet of sugar and 4 strawberries, surrounded by lots of whipped cream.
The service got progressively worse with more guests arriving, however, the quality of the dishes seemed to improve, I noticed.

“If Only”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 19, 2011

We went with a group of friends having recieved a recommendation. the general ambience is very good and it was a shame that for a saturday night there were only 4/5 tables with clients. The general level of service was attentive but not over powering. The food was to a reasonable standard but could have been so much better. the potato rosti were very over cooked.
What let the whole meal down was finding a shard of glass in the excellent looking Chocolate mousse. The staff responed very quickly and it was only by chance that my wife did not suffer further than a slight cut to the gum.
Therfore this could have been so much better occasion if only.

“I wish the staff would speak French”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 24, 2010

I first ate here on a cycling trip in 1983 when it was a slightly down at heel French restaurant, oozing character. The character is still there, and the food good, but there was not a single local customer, and the staff would not speak to us in French. If you don't speak French or don't want to try it may be your sort of place.

“Very enjoyable”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 11, 2010

English owned, ( and spoken ) but with French food and flair. Good food, service, reasonably priced, with set menus at different prices. Do not be put off by appearance, outside courtyard dining, but very nice inside restaurant.
