Other reviewers have been distracted by the decor, but Mrs Muttonen and I like places like this. The staff were outstanding, the food even more so. Each course was prepared with imagination and absolutely delicious. We'd quite fancied a pizza for our last meal before heading back to London next day, having been underwhelmed by the French restaurants we'd visited in the previous few weeks. But the local pizzeria (which had good reviews) was closed - no discernible logic to such arrangements, which are quirky rather than deeply annoying - so Le Darnetal was chosen more or less at random and because it was one of the few places open midweek, and our experience there restored our faith in French cuisine.
