“Good Ski Hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 5, 2012

As others have said, this is right next to the ski hire, ski school and gondola. We had superior rooms with views over the slopes. The rooms are very warm; we turned off our radiators and were still cosy due to the underfloor heating.
Food is hearty and there is always a vegetarian option. Buffet salad and dessert but soups and main course are served plated. There is lots of choice at breakfast.
The rooms are very clean and although there is no hairdryer as standard they are available at reception.
The only downside is that smokers are everywhere and this stopped us using the bar. However, this was the same in all the bars we tried in Rauris.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2011

I would totally recommend this hotel to families with children/teenagers especially, though we (grandparents) were staying at this hotel on our own as our family was on the other side of Rauris. (We were in total, two 60 year olds, two thirty somethings, 8, 5, and 4 year old)
The hotel Hubertus is extremely clean and well run with a very good buffet breakfast, both continental and cooked (scrambled egg and bacon and boil your own eggs) as much as you can eat. It is very laid back and friendly and children and babies are made to feel welcome and not an inconvenience. Although we didn't experience the evening meal as we were breakfast only, we did see the menu and it appeared wholesome and well balanced.
The hotel bedrooms are a little dated but very clean. The tv only has foreign stations (except CNN) and does not have a DVD player so we took my laptop and dvd's from home and we watched those in the evenings. Everyone seems to be in bed by 9pm!There are no tea/coffee making facilities either, but we had our own travel kettle etc.
The bathroom is again spotlessly clean and towels changed every day, but soap/shampoo/shower gel are not provided.
There is an indoor pool in the basement of the hotel.
Staff speak little/no English - though one receptionist is fluent.
The children's slopes and ski schools are adjacent to this hotel which makes is so easy as from our experience little ones find it exhausting to walk in their ski boots, carrying skiis etc., the cabin lift to the top of the mountain is also right next to the hotel. It couldn't be better for location. The ski school is also attached to the hotel and there is a storage boot/ski room in the hotel itself with access to reception making it easy to use.
Rauris itself is a fantastic village - it has several eating places and coffee shops but if you are looking for nightlife this is not for you. Even in half term week (February) it was possible to walk through the main street of Rauris on our way back to the hotel, having eaten in one of the restaurants and pass only a handful of people (and this would be around 9pm) It is extremely safe and quiet though.
There are two supermarkets (one is a large Spar) in Rauris and they are fully stocked with all you could want for a self catering holiday. (Of course Hotel Hubertus also has self catering "apartments"). The downside of these supermarkets is that they close on Saturdays at 6pm and as we only arrived in the village at 5pm we had to hurry to get shopping in as they are also closed on Sundays! Not very convenient as most people seem to arrive on Saturday afternoon.
Various activities take place during the week and our three grandsons (4,5 and 8) really enjoyed them. On Monday and Thursday evenings just 500 metres along the road from Hubertus they have a floodlit toboggan run. Toboggans for two people are rented from the bottom and transported on the chair lift to the top of the mountain where everyone then races back down to the bottom. I would say it is not suitable for children under 5, though I did see under 5's taking part (each child has to be accompanied by an adult). It was great fun! On Wednesdays they have a motocross floodlit evening - again enjoyed by all. It is also possible to take a horse drawn carriage ride though the countryside on a two hour trip. That was also magical!
We all came away feeling we couldn't wait to come back!
Although I have written this from a family perspective I would like to say this area is also very suitable for older skiiers. The slopes from the top of the cabin lift are black runs and are challenging. The area around is very beautiful and there are several bigger towns within a short driving distance. As we were there in half term it was over-run with children - something we expected but you may want to avoid if you are travelling without little ones! Because it was the busiest week of the year there was a long queue in the mornings for the cabin lift.
We would definitely stay at the Hubertus and Rauris again!

Me and my boyfriend decided to learn to snowboard and the Hotel St Hubertus in Rauris ticked all the boxes. We booked through Neilson and the whole holiday was a complete success. The Hotel is brilliant, the pictures in the brochures are spot on, it is clean and well kept and the staff are friendly and speak very good english. It is right next to the nursary slope and main gondola and is only a 5min walk from the centre of the village. If I had to fault anything it would be the food but it was substantial and did fill us up every night. Also please be aware that Austrians ans Germans don't mind nudity. If you use the sauna then you will see everything and smoking indoors is still allowed in Austria. There are two main ski schools. We had our lessons with "Adventure Rauris". Our instructor was called Kate and she was fantastic. We would recommend her all day long. Overall the holiday was a complete success and we can't wait to go snowboarding again.

Ps. If you can, take your own pain killers. You will need them at some point during the week and it will save you a 25 min queue in the villages only chemist. Also if you book with neilson, take the ski or snowboarders pack as this is very good value for money as booking everything in resort will cost about double.

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 24, 2009

We stayed at the Hotel Hubertus between 4th a nd 10th January as part of a skiing holiday organised through Nielson’s.
The hotel is right next door to the main ski lift and immediately adjacent to both ski schools. The ski hire place was in the hotel basement so it could not have been more convenient.
Our party was made up of 6 people (3 small children, 3 adults) and we rook two hotel rooms which were on the 3rd floor immediately adjacent. An adjoining door became as one flat.
The room has a lovely en-suite bathroom with very good plumbing and (most of the time) hot water). The main room is a large double bed (very comfortable )with a sitting area adjacent (the small sofa turned into a bed for one of the children. There is a door out to a balcony.
The Outside temperatures in Rauris were between minus 2 and minus 12- the temperature in the hotel was tropical. It was so hot we would have liked to turn it down but they have first class insulation, double glazing and underfloor heating and it proved difficult. You need cold clothes for skiing and summer clothes for the hotel- we did get our wardrobe wrong.
The hotel has a nice swimming pool (not too big but not too small) and sauna. We did swim most days but hardly every use the sauna which always seemed to be full of naked Europeans.
The restaurant was superb. Breakfast was buffet style and each day something hot was provided. After skiing there was tea coffee and cake. The evening meal was Austrian cuisine, well cooked – you make your choice each morning from 3 options (1 vegetarian). Although it was lovely food we did have a yearning for pizza by the end of the holiday.
Drinks were not cheap especially with the euro being expensive this year but they are only slightly higher than a posh bar in UK. We were amazed to be charged 2 Euros for tap water but found out later that this was the norm in Austria.
The staff were excellent.
All in all the hotel was very nice.
The only downside was the very very small ski and boot room. Getting 6 people(plus other people) ready to ski in such a small space was very hard work.
Rauris markets itself as a beginners resort but the blue runs would be verging on reds in France. The reds verging on blacks etc. I never managed it but I was told the main black run was quite easy! There is good but limited skiing in the resort. We found enough variety for our skill level- beginner/intermediate.
The ski school (we used Adventure Rauris) was marvellous and our instructor Inge superb. The lunch time restaurants on the mountain were excellent and although expensive (only due to the Euro) offered lovely food. If you order chips you get mountains! The children’s ski school included lunch time supervision and they had a brilliant time with a teacher called Rheinhardt.
Rauris is a lovely little place but very quiet.
All in all this was a superb holiday and Hotel Hubertus is clean , tidy, friendly and well run with good food.

Location of this Hotel is perfect for the lifts and ski school, it has ski hire and service on site.
The rooms are clean and comfortable, the food is no nonsense but good.
The only down side for us was the smoking, as we in the uk can now enjoy smoke free bars this was a major issue for us at this hotel, so much so that we could not enjoy an after dinner drink in the bar.
I am sure that the Austrian policy will change in time and this will improve the St Hubertus to excellent status.

The hotel is ideally situated next to the gondola and the nursery slopes. With a ski school and equipment hire shop on site, they couldnt make it any easier for beginers like us. The food is hearty and delicious and as vegetarians we had a dish cooked especially for us every day that was excellent. They must have addressed the comment of an earler reviewer!

We used the Adventure Rauris ski schoool, and were lucky enough to have the friendly, open, patient and positive Claudia. She helped us through the initial stage of falling down twenty times in the first day; progressing to coping with a blue run higher up the mountain later in the week.

The town is small but delightfully situated with enough bars and restaurants to keep you going if you have any energy left in the evening.
