We arrived late on a Saturday to a very warm welcome from Carmen and Thomas who own and run the Alpina. We were immediately settled into a great family room - more than big enough for us all. Although we had arrived outside of the normal hours for providing a meal, we were looked after and given a lovely meal. We were allocated a table in the restaurant that we had for our entire stay - none of the normal scrabbling for a table at meal times. The food was exceptional - providing options for adults and children. Each night we had a four course meal if we wished.

The swimming pool was heated and was often empty when we went there which was lovely, especially when you consider we went at Half Term and the hotel was busy. The sauna area was also really well kept - all clean and tidy. There are ski and boot storage rooms and if you are travelling by car, ample parking at the front of the hotel. The ski bus stops right outside the hotel throughout the day and it is within walking distance of the chair lift.

The facilites in the room were great - wifi for the kids gadgets and the safe were all included in the price (none of the usual, having to pay extra for these services). My only issue was that there were no facilities to make hot drinks in the room, but it wasn't a big issue as the staff were more than happy to get you a drink downstairs in the bar area - although this was chargeable to your account (also fine).

The bar area was comfortable and there were games and books provided. If you are looking for bustling apres ski, then this isn't the hotel for you, but it was perfect for a family holiday.

The staff are all attentive and helpful, and didn't laugh at our attempts at speaking German. Most speak a very good level of English.

We had a great holiday here. We would definitely recommend and are already planning a return trip.

Room Tip: Family rooms are more than big enough for a family of 4, with a separate sleeping area for the adult...

Another fab week had at the Alpina Hotel, our fifth time and booked again for next year. The hotel has had a refurbishment to the lounge and restaurant area which is very nice but to be honest i preferred it as it was but thats just me! The staff remain the same ,friendly happy and very welcoming hence the reason we return year after year. The food was excellant in fact i would say probaly the best we have had and the chef was happy to change things for you if you didnt like anything.

Room Tip: The hotel is very hot so pack some t shirts or short sleeved tops if you intend staying indoors and...

Just returned from our 7th visit in 10 years, and loved it all over again! The hotel has had some refurbishment but retained all its Alpine charm and tradition. It is conveniently located with the ski bus stop at front door, and a 10 minute walk from the village main square. The rooms are generous with balconies, good showers & comfortable beds. Most guests are on half-board and everyone raves about the food whether young or old, locals or tourists, regulars or newbies there is something for everyone. Breakfast is huge choice of usual cereals, yogs, fruit, hams, cheeses, various breads, scrambled eggs & bacon, boiled eggs, fruit juices etc. dinner is 4 courses each evening with a menu offering 3 choices of set menus (inc veggie option if you overdose on the meat!) which you are asked to select each morning. There is a comfortable informal bar and children well-catered for with a playroom etc. the pool & relaxation area with sauna is very comfortable and well-kept, quiet with piped music & spotless like the whole hotel. Robes are avail from reception & wi-fi free good quality. We really appreciated the owners extra touches like a torch-light evening walk with candles, cheese buffet night, schnapps with the owners etc. All the staff are well-trained, welcoming and genuinely happy in their work. Carmen & Thomas are the friendly owners and work tirelessly to make everyone's holiday perfect! Here's to next year...

Room Tip: All rooms have great views to hotel front & rear. Most rooms have showers only, be specific if y...

I hadn't been skiing for about 7 years, having been to a really good hotel near Ischgl for many years I was a bit worried...
The hotel was great, Carmen and her husband and the staff were lovely. We used the pool once but didn't try the saunas. We would go back this year if it wasn't fully booked! Food was fantastic , good location , lovely atmosphere .

We spent a week during the New Year break at this well appointed hotel. Our late arrival, following a flight delay, did not diminish the welcome from Thomas the owner. A meal was set out for us in our comfortable, warm room. ( It was slightly too warm to give an excellent rating on sleep quality). The breakfast selection was more than adequate and included a hot option. The 4 course evening meal selection was made at breakfast; always with a choice of main courses. The standard of food was superb with the chef deliberately offering Austrian dishes. On a couple of evenings he came into the dining rooms to get feedback from the guests. The New Year's Eve gala dinner was exceptionally good: a 'champagne' reception followed by a 6 course meal! Last month, the conservatory area was refurbished and completed; the subdued lighting and effective heating created a cosy atmosphere. If you want a more energetic end to your day, the hotel's swimming pool is open until 10pm. We found the water temperature cold until you acclimatised!! In the games room there is table tennis equipment and a pool table. You could instead have made use of the hotel sauna- no swimming costumes allowed though. All facilities were very clean and well maintained.
We are snowshoers and found that Rauris has yet to develop its potential for this activity. We tried some local winter walking routes, which would have been more exciting had the snow been deeper. Some of the summer hiking trails are worth exploring on snowshoes, but the marking of the trails is often unclear and difficult to match up with the maps provided by the hotels and Tourist Info. We tried to buy more detailed maps, but none are available in the winter. Our best day out was taking the free ski bus (pick up outside the hotel) to the Hochalm gondola stop, stay on the bus to travel up the valley to Bodenhaus. (Check the timetable as only 2 or 3 buses a day go this far. ) Once there, take the ski taxi (€8) which is a skidoo pulling a sledge of seats. Get off at 'the end of the line' which is the Naturfreundehaus. From there you have virgin snow to walk amongst. There are a number of trails to follow, or make up your own. When you've had enough, hire a toboggan(€4) to return to Bodenhaus. Call in for a piece of Topfenstrudel before the return bus journey. If you miss the bus, the Gasthof will happily phone for a taxi.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Rauris and the Hotel Alpina in particular, so much so that we are trying to rebook before the end of the season, but there is little availability. Don't go to Rauris if you want buzzing nightlife, there are only a few bars/pubs. I think only one, the Sportalm, is non-smoking. The Alpina however, adheres to its no smoking policy.I thoroughly recommend this hotel with its combination of good food, very friendly staff and owners, value for money and location... what more could you want?

Room Tip: The rooms at the back of the hotel have a view of the ski slopes and mountains

We spent very nice week in this hotel in January.
Our room wasn't huge - I think we had 'standard' one - but it's size was just ok for two people. Very clean, a lot of storage space so we could store all our belongings and bags. Bathroom was great, with heated floor and new furnishing, again a lot of space to put your toiletries.

We used indoor pool and sauna, great way to chill out after a day on the slopes. Both facilities were nice and clean, pool was usually empty on evenings so we could have it only for ourselves.

Meals were good as well, not a huge choice maybe, but everything we tried was good and presented in very nice way. Personally I would prefer to have a bit more variety in dinner buffet as we seemed to have four times (out of seven) buffet with raw vegetables and dips - nothing exciting. I liked cheese buffet, but sadly it was available only once. Breakfasts were ok, every day same choice of cold meats, hard cheese and cereals, plus sometimes there was a hot option of sausages or poached eggs, I didn't try them though.
Personally I don't like the 'conservatory' area. It's suppose to be a place where you can sit, order a drink or coffee and relax reading a book or talking to friends, but it had a bit too cold atmosphere for me. Don't get me wrong, it looks ok and I'm sure that many guests like it, I just prefer more cozy places to sit with my drink.
I think that for the money we paid this hotel was very good value, I wouldn't hesitate to go back there or recommended this place to anyone.
Sure, I didn't like a few minor things, but it doesn't change the fact that hotel itself is well maintained and staff is very nice and helpful.

Just returned from a weeks skiing holiday in Rauris. The Alpina hotel was excellent; the staff are really friendly and helpful, the evening meals excellent and the room we stayed in was very good indeed. We upgraded to a larger room with a separate sitting area and it was well worth the additional cost. For skiers the location is great with the ski bus stopping outside the front of the hotel, it's only a short ride to the slopes. A short walk gets you to the centre of the village with a few bars and restaurants. The pool and spa are as good as the rest of the hotel. In every respect a great holiday.
