Hotel Residencial El Valle
Reviewed December 25, 2012

Hotel Residencial may not be the most elegant place to stay in El Valle, but it's location gives you a great feel for the town, it's comfortable, and the staff is friendly and helpful. The owner, Enrique, went above and beyond in helping us reach the hotel by staying on the phone with us after we got lost.

Room Tip: If you don't mind the stairs, ask for a room on the third floor so you have immediate access to...

The best non-chain hotel I have stayed in anywhere. Very affordable. Enrique and his staff were great and made us feel welcome. The rooms were very clean and had a private bathroom well stocked with towels. The bed was comfortable and the room was spacious. I was concerned about there not being airconditioning but with the cool evening air coming through the window and ceiling fan on we were just fine. Sitting out on the hammocks and rocking chairs we were able to enjoy the view of the mountains. We had wifi access that worked well and allowed us to stay intouch with friends and family back home. We were within walking distance to a number of restaurants and businesses and right next door to the outdoor market.

The rooms were clean. By Central American standards (Non-chain) the rooms were "roomy". The bathroom was well stocked with clean towels, etc. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The WiFi worked very well!!! In other words, a perfect base of operations when exploring the valley and surrounding area.

The hammocks and the patio/relaxation area were superb!!! A communal refrigerator is provided and it seems that either the honor system worked well or no one liked my beer. LOL! The only drawback with sleeping on the third floor was when when drunk Belgians decided to have a hammock party at midnight. :)

The hotel advertises hot water, and this was true most of the time. But I had 2 showers that were lukewarm..

Enrique speaks great English. Jonathon makes pretty good coffee.

The laundry service was great and inexpensive.

I guess the only drawbacks were: No staff at night if you have an issue. And the fact that the competitive drum band practiced in the parking lot across the street from 2000-2200 for two nights. (Arrgghhhh!!!!) LOL!

Room Tip: Go for the third floor. The hammocks are right outside of your room! Beautiful views!

My family and I stayed at Hotel Residencial el Valle From July 24-25. The hotel has the most basic needs, its clean, and it is in the middle of town. The room did not have A/C but since the weather in El Valle is normally cool it is not really necessary. They had fans instead which were enough. Our room had two double beds and a single and it was suitable for us four. In the morning free coffee is provided in the main floor. We had the rooms facing the main road and in the morning you could hear the buses and cars going by. The 3rd floor has a lounge area with lots of hammocks, tables, lounge chairs for relaxation. It also has a microwave and a fridge for guests. Right below the hotel their is a souvenirs store and a restaurant. In front there is another hotel, a supermarket, and a chinese restautant. A few steps ahead you will find the Farmer's Market. Overall it is affordable, clean and a great place to stay. I recommend it.

Room Tip: If you want a much quiet room. You should pick the ones towards the back of the hotel. The ones in...

First night there we were in an older room..no internet in that room and that was a special discoteca night and the music boomed to 3 am. Enrique and the staff moved us the next two nights to a newer room, internet worked well and it was quiet. We loved the hammocks and view of the mountains on this floor of the hotel. The rooms are clean...there is no A/C but you don't need it. Overall a nice relaxing place when the music isn't booming nearby...

One of the best things about staying at the Hotel Residencial El Valle is the owner and manager, Enrique. He is an affable, gregarious host. Unlike many of the other hotel proprietors, Enrique is very warm and welcoming. The building is beautiful with tiled floors and the third floor is a large covered patio with 6 hammocks, hand made wood furniture, a refrigerator and microwave oven with a balcony that overlooks the main street. The hotel is not air conditioned, but each room has an ocilating fan that does a good job in keeping the room comfortable. It is a very basic room. If you are looking for fancy, this hotel isn't it. If you are looking for a hotel with lots of local color, clean, friendly and comfortable, this hotel is for you. It was reasonably priced--at 55 per night. We needed laundry done and it costs us $6. The first floor of the building is a souvenir shop with quality wood and hand made baskets and cloth embrodered quilted purses, hand bags and pillow covers. I travtelled with my husband and another couple. We preferred to put our travel dollars for a guide who specializes in birding. I definitely recommend this hotel for someone looking for a reasonable, clean place to stay. The third floor covered porch was a real treat--a great vantage point to watch the street scene below, and the constantly changing surrounding mountains, one moment enshrouded in clouds, the next minute verdant in the attenuated light of the afternoon sun.

Room Tip: People like to party on the covered deck/porch on the third floor, so ask for a quiet room on the se...
