“day at the zoo”
Reviewed December 20, 2012

The center where they are trying to find a cure for the fungal disease that is attacking reptiles and amphibians is very interesting.

“Fun, safe adventure!”
Reviewed December 10, 2012

It's fun for kids and adults as well. If rainy season, take non-slippery shoes and a raincoat. Sun or rain, this is a fun place! Our girls loved it!

“Zoo”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

Is a nice zoo taking into consideration is privately owned. Nice variety of wild animals. The animals look well treated. Look for a guide named Isael. He is a local young guy very knowledgeable and reasonable for the price he will charge you. He could show you all the attractions in the valley and can explain the history behind each of the places. Ask the person at the zoo entrance about Isael.

“Remember it's a zoo in Panama”
Reviewed October 27, 2012

Like others have said in the previous reviews, go with an open mind. It cost me $3 to walk around in the pouring rain (rainy season and Panama getting tail wind of Hurricane Sandy) looking at animals in small cages. They do seem to be doing the best they can--the cages were clean and they were feeding the animals and birds. I only saw one Golden Frog (the cage is foggy so it's hard to see), but I saw beautiful birds, other strange and BIG frogs as well as monkeys and sheep, jaguars and ostrichs. I would only suggest going here if you want to see the Golden Frog and experience a Panamanian zoo in a rainforest type setting. Wear bug spray, a poncho, croc shoes or galoshes. There is a spiket at the end of the trail to wash shoes and feet off (I put mine in one of the sinks at the bathroom area). And the road during rainy season is horribly bumpy, so try to have fun with it but beware--we had an SUV.

“A wet afternoon”
Reviewed September 18, 2012

We visited this zoo on a really rainy afternoon in the rainy season, but still found lots to like. As others have mentioned, some of the cages are quite small, but taking into account that this is a rescue and privately run, I think this is understandable. The cages were clean and the animals looked well cared for. The zoo is set up in a garden center and it's a beautiful property. My kids really enjoyed the reptile house where we saw some of the beautiful, endangered golden frogs and their relatives.
Well worth the money and time, as long as you know what to expect.
