“Wonderful hospitality and beautiful surroundings. Highly recommended!”
Reviewed May 28, 2011

We spent 2 nights with Dennis and Mireya and greatly enjoyed their company. Their hospitality made the visit very memorable. But not to be overlooked was the incredible beauty of this area, a 10-minute walk from town, with a magnificent garden, spacious grounds, and an incredible variety of birds. We spoke limited Spanish, and it was comforting to have them answer our questions in English. The room was clean and included a refrigerator, and both a twin and full size bed. Soap was provided but bring your own shampoo. We enjoyed sitting in the Adirondack chairs and watching the birds, including an owl, scarlet tanagers, and many others. The location on Calle La Reforma leads to a nearby stream and cascades called Las Mozas. We saw exotic oropendola birds nesting in a huge bamboo grove on the way there. We enjoy unique travel experiences, and this fits the bill. Cabanas Potosi is highly recommended if you want to avoid the noise, dust, and traffic in the center of town.

Cabanas Potosi are so nice. Its situated at 1 km of El Valley village. The Cabanas are charming. We had 3 bed and a private room for 17$ per person. We had an EXCELLENT service. The proprios are funny and welcoming. They do EVERYTHING for their guests. We also went at Playa Santa Clara WOW for 10$ round-trip per person. You can go everywhere in the village for 1$ with Denis! You can use their internet and kitchen for 1$! Its an ecoreseort and the garden is so nice. We will miss Denis and Mireya (proprios) because they were like our adoptives grandparents for 3 days!!! Thank you so much again and you must go there because its really cheap and its a charming place. Moreover, you can do hicking in El Valley, go at the hot spring, go at the zoo, go to Pacific beaches, see El macho waterfalls.... You can stay there for a long time..... and its like if you were at home... Enjoy!

We like this place because it is quiet, little away from the city, the rooms are comfortable and of a good value for money, from $35 to 49. There is also a big very well maintained garden, with trees, flowers, parrots, birds... Furthermore, the owners are really pleasant !!

Cabanas Potosi, on an interesting country backroad, is a lovely place for enjoying El Valle. Their garden, their rescue parrots, and their views of the mountains are special.

Dennis and Mireya, indeed, do go the extra mile. In the case of my companion and his several days of constipation, Mireya advised, and then accompanied, us on a visit to the local clinic and pharmacy -- on a Sunday evening -- where her moral support and translating skills were invaluable. Beyond that, I was provided with ice bags and a wonderful elixir for my wrist, which was injured during the drive to El Valle.

Their caring and tranquil accommodations made an enormous difference at a bumpy time in our Panama trip.

Even without needing all the special attention, we would definitely stay there again.

(NOTE: 1. El Valle the weekend before and during Carnivale can be noisy, especially at night. 2. The road past Cabanas Potosi is very rutted, as are most dirt roads in the area.)

My wife and I just returned from a most wonderful vacation in El Valle. What made it wonderful was our stay at Potosi Cabanas. Dennis and Mireya were the most gracious hosts anyone could hope to find. They went out of their way to make us comfortable, to the extent of loaning us rain gear, which we needed a couple of times. They know the area well, and recommeneded places to see during our stay. If you're going to El Valle, I would strongly recommend you stay at Potosi Cabanas.
