We went to Brisas del Mar this past week while staying at Florblanca resort. While Nectar restaurant at the resort is excellent, Trip Advisor research said Brisas was outstanding, and we were not disappointed. After a thrilling taxi ride up a steep hill, we walked into the restaurant, perched with a 180 degree view deck overlooking the Pacific. The sunset was spectacular. The waiter was busy, because it's a popular place. But he stayed very attentive to us and didn't seem to stop running between tables. After explaining the drinks, appetizers and entree menus, we started with a pitcher of the highly recommended "Watermelon Coco Loco" drinks, a refreshing mix of watermelon and rum. Just be careful because it tastes so light and good, the alcohol can sneak up on you. We also tried the "Electric Lemonade", which was a vodka mix with a citrus kick to it. Very good, but Coco Loco was better. Try the buffalo mozzarella and grilled vegetables tower appetizer. Delicious. The fried calamari appetizer was a little thick on the calamari for our taste, but still good. The indian and curry spiced Mahi Mahi was fresh and fabulous. An outstanding dish. We also had the pasta with chorizo and mushrooms, which was delicious. For dessert, the brownie a la mode we shared was fresh from the oven, and the chocolate melted after each bite. Between eating great food and watching the sunset, it was a heavenly evening. FYI.. the staff is very helpful.. as evidenced by another couple at the restaurant whose rental car got stuck trying to back out of the tricky driveway onto the steep incline downhill in the dark after sunset. Our waiter ran out to help and had all the necessary tools to hook his car up to the other, and tow it out of the ditch where it had gotten stuck. Now that deserves one heck of a tip!! Here's my tip: either have an SUV taxi take you up and down the hill, or wear some really sturdy shoes for the steep, guaranteed aerobic walk. All this drama aside, Brisas del Mar is worth the effort. You will remember the entire evening long after the sun has set.
