“We loved it!”
Reviewed August 23, 2009

We were initially booked in for just a week but as soon as we arrived at Zula — a clean room, comfortable bed, friendly welcome and a great location by the beach — we extended our stay.
Three weeks in paradise. That's how it felt.
First of all, Malpais is wonderful. There's loads of great surf spots (my husband surfed twice a day for 25 days!,) yoga centres and yummy sodas and restaurants within walking distance. Second of all, the Inn has a great pool and common area for hanging out and relaxing. We found the owners, Rotem and Avi, really cool guys too. Really helpful.
The well-spaced, private bungalows are great too, well-stocked with everything we needed for cooking and morning coffees on the front deck — where we'd sometimes get to watch howler monkeys in the trees! And there'd always be butterflies darting through the flowers and tiny lizards, even a big iguana in the tree.
It was nice and quiet too and we'd wake up to the sound of birds chirping in the morning. I'm not kidding!
It was an ideal place to unwind, surrounded by tropical flowers and trees, set against a mountain jungle and minutes to the surf. AAAAh. We miss it!
And finally, it's easily the best value we found traveling around CR.
We'll definitely go back. And we found the other guests we met there felt the same way.
Happy to be part of the Zula gang. hehehe.
Okay, I'm gushing but you get the point!

Great place to stay. The staff is awesome. Safe place to leave bags inside your room. The rooms are small but clean and comfortable. The only problem was the internet was slow and frequently dropped the signal.

Two of my friends and I just stayed at the Zula Inn for a few nights and I really can't say enough about this place. The rooms were very nice and incredibly clean - and there were three beds, which was a huge plus for us. They have a great pool and bar area as well that was great to hang out at. The owners and staff are extremely friendly and knowledgeable about everything you will want to do while you are there. They even invited us to a beach party they were planning to attend later in the week. The Zula restaurant is also just down the road and had great food. I will definitely be staying here again.

I had looked up a few places online before my trip, but didn't make any plans. When I rolled into town I stopped at zula without checking anywhere else. it was one of the best moves I could have made. Rattum and Avi were incredible hosts who knew all the best restaraunts, surf spots and places to visit. The rooms were super clean, the ac was cold and the grounds were beautiful. Make sure you check out the restaruant with the same name. Oh yeah, and there masuse was really good.

My husband and I stayed at Zula Inn 12 days in January 2009. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about the place. The cabin, the garden and the pool area were all better than I expected. The reception staff were really helpfull and the maids would sometimes make creations with our towels and decorate them with flowers, which was really nice. We were in Santa Teresa mainly for surfing and the beach right below Zula Inn is rocky, so there is a bit of a walk to get to the surfable parts, especially if you go north.

  • Liked — Cabin, pool, garden and staff were all great
  • Disliked — Could be closer to the surfable parts of the beach

This place is great, the cabins are so amazing and located around a great swimming pool and bar. The surfing brought us to mal pais and the beach is a very short walk away. The staff made the stay especially enjoyable and were very helpful and always available. wish I was back, 2 weeks was not enough.
