My friend and I spent 10 days in Belize at Hopkins Bay Resort. Not one single regret. The staff was nothing less than amazing. Anything we wanted, they made it happen. From Radiance at check in, Dwight on security, Danny one & Danny two in the kitchen to Mitchell, King & Sherain working the bars. Their hospitality and professionalism was superb.

Hopkins Bay is located in the small village of Hopkins. It really is a beautiful resort, with two pools, bikes and kayaks available, and a very helpful staff. We stayed 5 nights and were very comfortable in our accommodations. If you don't have a car, you can easily ride into the village by bike or there are taxis available. Drumming night with Warren from the Lebeha Drumming Center is fun and he offers a great hour long class which is entertaining. Eat at Inni's or Frog's Point in town sometime for a great meal.

Thanks for the warm review! It is a pleasure to know that you enjoyed the beach house and our helpful staff. The complimentary bicycles and kayaks are a great way to see the village from another vantage point and are easily accessible to all guests. A village bike ride paired with local drumming lessons and dinner at Innie’s makes for a great Garifuna cultural immersion and we are thrilled to know that you got the opportunity to experience it.

If your travels bring you back to Belize it will be a pleasure to have you once more.

We really enjoyed this trip. The hotel staff and town people are very accommodating and helpful . The views are beautiful . There are a lot of activities , which the hotel arranges and books for you. It is located at the end of a small town with a bumpy road. But everything is amazing about this place. To eat try chef rob and love on the rocks

Thank you for your kind review. We are happy to know that you enjoyed our property, the views and the interaction with the local villagers and our staff. There really are so many different activities available in this area which is a great compliment to days of relaxing. Like you, we highly recommend Chef Rob’s and Love on the Rocks to guests so that they can enjoy the varied tastes of our little village.

If you are ever in Belize again, we look forward to hosting you once more.

We spent one night inThe Hopkins Bay Resort, in the lost village of Hopkins; the resort is located at the end of a sandy road and you would just feel you are a long way from any civilization, if your room was not so comfortable and full of amenities.
Furnished in the colonial style, the rooms are nice, elegant and comfortable. From the terrace, you can give a look at the sea. In the gardens around, paths lead you to the beach restaurants - nothing really special - and to the pools situated at the very edge of the sea. We liked to walk along the sandy beach ; it is a peaceful place indeed. We just regret that the tourists living there forget towels, sunscreen and much more around, spoiling the sand and the impression of purity you look for in a place like this.

Thank you for writing this nice review of our property. It’s great to know that you enjoyed the remoteness of our sleepy fisherman’s village while in Hopkins and the modern amenities provided in your room.

The beach walks are always a good way to explore the village and we will continue to work together with the community for a clean village!

If you are ever in Belize again, we invite you for a longer stay with us.

We saw the ads and the reviews for Hopkins Bay and Hopkins Bay Resort and decided to plant ourselves there for our entire trip to Belize after speaking with a number of people. It was a partially good decision, but had it's problems.
First, Hopkins Bay is about 2/3 of the way down the country of Belize. The drive was pleasant enough until we turned off the main road (I hesitate to say Highway) and onto an unpaved road full of ruts, potholes and generally in poor condition. Ten minutes down the road we arrived in Hopkins Bay. The town of Hopkins Bay is spread out with the Hopkins Bay Resort at the north end and the other resorts at the south end. It doesn't matter if you have a car, but without one, you're at the mercy of local transportation.
We had some confusion about our room when we arrived. We understood from the description and the photographs on the Resort website that we'd have a kitchen in our room. We did not. However, since the resort was not full, on our 2nd day, we were moved to a suite that had a living room, dining room and kitchen, along with a 2nd bedroom we did not need. The kitchen was well equipped and we were able to have breakfast in our room every day. The room was comfortable and everything worked...appliances, air conditioning, hot water, tub and shower, toilets, etc.
The staff at the Resort were wonderful. They were very accommodating and worked very hard to please their guests. The pool and beach was lovely and much of the time, we felt as if we were in a private resort, as often, we were the only people around, or the area was dotted with guests, but no one was on top of anyone else.
We had dinner at the Resort one night. The food was good, not gourmet. The service was also acceptable to good, and very pleasant.
The staff helped us plan a 2 day excursion to see Tikal in Guatemala and the ATM caves. We decided to leave HBR early and stay in San Ignacio, even though we'd paid for the HBR for those nights. It was easier to do that than drive back and forth an extra 4 hours each way. It was a good decision. The staff recommended that we go to Tikal and ATM Cave, and it was one of the best decisions we made, following their advice.
If we had it to do over, I think I'd have stayed for 3 days in Hopkins Bay, and visited other parts of Belize for another couple nights.

Room Tip: The rooms at the resort are all good. They are spaced out with just 2 rooms in a building, so you n...

Hi There,

Thank you very much for taking the time to write such a thorough review. We are glad to know that you did enjoy the adventure tours, our friendly staff and the room upgrade. We always try our best to exceed our guests expectations and will review the presentation of the different room types.

The drive into Hopkins Village on the 4 miles of unpaved road is quite an adventure indeed and we try our best to convey this message to our guest. Work on paving the road has already started and we hope that this will be completed in a timely manner if the weather allows the work to be carried out during our next dry season. This will make it much easier in the future to reach our little fisherman's village.

We try to keep the atmosphere of the restaurant casual and relaxing and are focusing on further trainings for our colleagues, as we always strive to further improve the service to our guests.

We wish you all the best in your future travels and look forward to welcoming you once again, should your travel plans bring you back to Belize.

Just spent a week at Hopkins Bay resort. I prefer smaller, boutique style stays as I usually find the service to be more detailed, this was not the case with Hopkins.

The pros:
Room and most of grounds are beautiful
Paul, the activities director. Took us on a wonderful kayaking trip and fishing on the beach. We found him to be very friendly be knowledgable, he seems to truly enjoy what he does and really wants to make sure you're having a great time.
Food is pretty good! I didn't find the menu to be limited at all, and they had several healthy options.
We came into the restaurant one night at 8:15, and they had closed earlier. The accounting manager (?) was thankfully there and had the kitchen staff that was left go and make us some food. We were thankful to not have to drive back into town.

Cons:
It's true the beach isn't very pretty. There is a river that comes out into the ocean right beside the resort, which makes the water murky and the beaches very dirty. They do have staff that keeps the beach as clean as possible, although I still wouldn't walk on the sand in bare feet.
Th staff seems to ignore you, and treated us like we were constantly a bother when asking for drinks or towels. A lot of the staff sat around on laptops and talking to each other. I kept on hearing they were about to close for 3 weeks for renovations, and a lot of the staff seemed to be planning their on vacations.
The front staff was only helpful when planning excursions with their preferred vendors. The phones in our rooms didnt work so we had to go to the office every time we wanted to plan something. The staff at the desk would just dial the number and hand the phone to us. Since there were only 6 people staying at the resort and obviously very little for them to do (evidenced by the playing music on personal computers and and general lack of working), you'd think they wouldn't mind being an actual "concierge" and making accommodations for us. No such luck.
Since there were no phones, no room service!
King was the only one who would come to check on us while dining or sitting by the pool. We found that sitting at the bar was the best way to get service, since we had someone right in front of us.
They advertise security, but there seems to not be any at all. We were approached several times daily but locals who would walk to the pool, grounds, and even to our door to see if we wanted to buy their souvenirs or other products/services/lessons. The staff not only don't seem to want to keep the place private, they know all of these people coming by!
Also random wild dogs roaming the property. I'm definitely animal lover, but they all had visible fleas and ticks. Again the staff walks by and doesn't keep them away!

Bottom line is, this wasn't the relaxing laid back trip we were hoping for.

Room Tip: The southern side of hopkins seems to be the more residential and quiet side of the village

Hi There,

Thanks for the detailed feedback given. As you may know, there are many ways to experience Belize and in choosing Hopkins Bay Resort, you decided to stray from the boutique experience that you’ve alluded to.

Firstly, I’d like to say that we are glad to know that you enjoyed the onsite activities with Paul and the fact that you found our grounds and rooms to be beautiful. Your compliment on the food being good is well appreciated as we’re continuously working on our menu items to ensure that each guest receives a taste of Belize.

Admittedly, Hopkins Bay Belize is located next to the river and weather conditions do affect the color of the water immediately off the beach. It’s one of those natural acts that we’ve started to embrace.

I’m dismayed to know that you did not have any friendly encounter with our grounds staff nor front office staff as they’ve been known to be the friendliest people as per many of the other posted reviews. It is evident that you felt that there was a lack of security, so please note that we do have onsite security and the local Maya and Garifuna vendors that occasionally traverse the beach are there to expose our guests to authentic handmade Belizean craft. If someone went to your beach house and if the neighboring dogs were a nuisance, we humbly apologize and will look into this issue as not to have a recurrence.

Overall, we do hope that you got the opportunity to experience a new culture in Belize and we wish you well in your future travels.

So, during my trip to Belize I started in San Pedro (island living), then went to San Ignacio (jungle life) and finished my trip in Hopkins Bay (beach getaway). Upon arrival at Hopkins Bay Resort we were greeted by our nice hose named Franz. He showed us to our rooms and told about the various amenities that the resort offered. When we got to our room my jaw dropped! The condo, or whatever it is considered, was HUGE and fit for royalty. We stayed in the two-bedroom condo within a matter of feet from the ocean. Immediately we opened up the sliding glass doors and the entire front of the condo was open air. We stayed here for 3 days and I can't say that I could've spent the final days of my trip living any more comfortable. The air was perfect. The drinks at the beach bar were delicious (try the freshly cut down coconut drinks). We went cayaking, snorkeling, and ate some amazing food. A+++++++++++ experience. Everyone in Hopkins was extremely friendly and inviting. I could go on and on about this place. I've recommended this place to friends and now they are planning a trip down there. I will make sure to stay here whenever I come back to Belize.

Room Tip: Every aspect of the rooms were amazing. Full kitchen. Ocean breeze. Super clean. Its nice and qu...
