My family and I had an awesome time at Hopkins Bay Resort. The Villa which we stayed in was very near to the beach allowing us to hear the tranquil sound of the waves. The sea was absolutely calm many mornings and so crystal clear. It was amazing to watch hundreds if tiny fish jumping out.
Much of our time was spent enjoying the refreshing pool and deck as well as the occasional beverage at the pool bar. Shireen and Lennon gave us great service there.
Hopkins has many restaurant choices. We had great meals every single time. I would recommend Chef Rob's, Love on the Rocks and the onsite restaurant Beachside Bistro. Though Beachside offers fewer menu choices during dinner sittings, the choices were very unique and different most days. Hands down Beachside had the best dessert of the vacation. Do not pass on the Lime pie, it is unbelievable.
The Villas are absolutely amazing. The grounds are beautifully kept with an ever changing array of flowers.
We were pleasantly surprised to find that the dreaded Belize sand fly was virtually extinct at the resort but be fore warned it does exist on excursions to the jungle and the Cayes. Keep the off close at hand for those times.
There were many activities which were in close proximity to the resort. These included fishing and snorkelling, scuba diving, zip line and cave tubing. Mayan Ruins were an 1 1/2 hour away by car.
We will certainly return.

What more can I say Hopkins Bay is by far one of the "BEST" resorts I have ever stayed at, I'm a world traveler so I have rested at some extraordinary places, but was truly amazed with the quality of service and the excellence of hospitality. I'm looking forward to my return to once again enjoy the evening bonfire with friends while preparing myself for the morning sunrise that will peek over the blue still waters into my room. This resort has a place in my heart,

HOPKINS BAY RESORT....... YOU GUYS ROCK..... Yah Man!

SEE YOU REAL SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON....

My husband and I have just returned from our annual vacation in Hopkins, Belize. We love this area and over the years have stayed at several hotels. By far, our favorite is Hopkins Bay Resort. We’ve spent our last several vacations there. The villas are very spacious and comfortable. I was surprised to see a negative review about the staff. We found them to be very attentive. The new management seems to be right on top of everything. The internet connection was very fast, much better than we’ve ever had in the past. I guess if I were to criticize one thing, I would say the kitchen could use a few more items—maybe a colander and some measuring spoons. I cooked almost every day and did fine, but a little more equipment would allow us to broaden our menu. We ate at the resort’s restaurant one night, and it was excellent. The food was delicious and the service was quick, which is a rarity in Hopkins. It’s not unusual to have to wait up to an hour for your food at many of the restaurants in town. That was not the case with the resort’s restaurant. We were very happy at Hopkins Bay and highly recommend it.

I found Hopkins Bay Resort through tripadvisor and I couldn't be more thrilled with the choice! I came here with my parents and boyfriend on our annual vacation in the last week of January. we were lucky enough to have just missed the rain and enjoy 5 days of sunshine! The villas are absolutely gorgeous. They have granite countertops and full kitchens; granit flooring; two-three bedrooms; flat screen tv; and living area. The deck and views are great! We were right next to the pool and had a great view of the beach! the staff was pleasant and kept the grounds and beach clean.
Hopkins Bay Resort is nestled far away from all the other major resorts in the village which makes relaxing quite easy! The restaurant was okay. It was pricey and not a lot of variety, but we were told that they are under new management. We spent most of our dinner nights in town enjoying local cuisine.

I highly recommend staying in Hopkins and Hopkins Bay Resort! The village is small and super friendly! Overall I would recommend it!

This has been one of our most exceptionally wonderful and relaxing vacations. We arrived here for 10 days with our 3 children on December 21 in the evening and were immediately greeted by two helpful staff who provided us with coconuts (with very delicious water) while transferring our luggage to our villa. The villa is very well designed with three large bedrooms (all en suite) a living area with a full granite kitchen, dining and living room. They even had three flat panel TVs in the villa and provided us with a DVD player on request. The decor in villas is elegant and tastefully done and the furniture, hardwood floors and vaulted ceilings add to the ambiance. The bathrooms have tiled floors and fresh towels everyday. The staff had also set decorative flowers in the bathroom and bedrooms- which was a very nice touch.

Our villa (as does every villa) had a direct view to the sea from every room through large glass doors that could be opened up completely so that the internal living areas merged into the large external decks. We often sat on the decks reading our books, having a drink or just relaxing to the sounds of the waves. The villas have a nice sized "infinity" swimming pool (shared between 9 or so villas) that is built next to the beach. The beach is in good shape, clean and at least 40 feet deep. It gave the kids a lot of space to run around and build sand castles.

Besides the swimming, the kids most favorite activity was catching crabs using crab cages that had been set up on the dock by the restaurant. The chef then prepared these deliciously (for free) and were enjoyed by the whole family and friends that the kids had made at the resort. They could not get enough of this experience and spent 3 entire mornings crabbing. We also did snorkeling, ziplining, river tubing and cave tubing that were all set up for us by the resort.

Other activities at the resort included Kayaks and bikes. On several occasions we rode the bikes into the village where everyone is very friendly and helpful. We also got some groceries at the local stores to make a few meals when we did not feel like eating.

Talking about eating out, the resort has a nice restaurant (Beachside Bistro) that served excellent meals and provided great service. We also ate Chef Robs, Frogs, Love on the Rocks and all had excellent food and great service. Driftwood Pizza near the resort makes outstanding Pizzas (and fish) that we had on several occasions.

The staff at the resort are friendly (though somewhat shy by American standards and tend to wait to be asked questions rather than offering help- I believe that this is a cultural difference that takes some getting used to). They offered help and guidance on tours, restaurants, and other help. The housekeeping staff were very attentive and cleaned out the entire villa every day. The grounds are well maintained.

Overall, this was a very enjoyable and fun-filled trip. We are already looking forward to our next trip to this resort.

The grounds and villas are beautiful and all have great views. The pool is nice, but with little shade. Bar by the pool has evening entertainment that adds to a great ambiance. The grounds are clean. People are out every morning maintaining the beach and pool. Villas are very comfortable, great beds, clean and spacious.

The kitchen is minimally outfitted. The dishes and servingware are nice, but there is no: colander, beverage pitcher, potato peeler, reasonably sharp knives, or baking dishes. There are no ice cube trays or salt and pepper. If you just want to grab a snack in your kitchen it's fine. If you want to cook a meal you will find it challenging.

The people who handle the front desk are very nice and want to be helpful, but clearly need more training. It honestly felt like no one was in charge. Nearly every request required multiple attempts, corrections and follow ups.

We arrived during a rainstorm and entering our villa, were greeted by a huge puddle. Water was cascading down the front door. Staff was surprised but offered no solutions. We had to ask for towels so no one would get hurt. We had to put in several requests over the next two days before some was sent out to correct the source of the problem (which they did quite competently). Initially the safes did not function and neither did the phones and internet. After several reminders someone was sent out and each problem was quickly resolved.

None of this made for a stress free holiday.

Hi, your feedback is greatly appreciated as it allows us to become better at what we do. Based on your review, we’d like to take this opportunity to say that it was our pleasure to host you and we are glad that you enjoyed the onsite entertainment and accommodations.

We apologize for any inconveniences caused by the lack of kitchen utensils to prepare full meals and we’d like you to know that we will take every step to rectify this issue and provide a more wholesome cooking experience for future families staying in our two or three bedroom beach houses.

In regards to your check-in process, the short rain storm was out of our control and we did everything to fix the problem within 24 hours. Admittedly, the rain had knocked out the phone and internet systems, but we can only become aware of such issues if someone reports the malfunction, and we do try our best to fix these situations in the quickest manner- as per your comment.

Lastly, we've also realize that we do need to provide visible safe instructions for all guests to better facilitate its use. We strongly believe that those instructions paired with a more thorough orientation will alleviate any future problems and those changes will take immediate effect.
With that said, I want to say thanks for all your feedback and we wish you the best in 2013.

We spent 12 days at the Hopkins Bay Resort at the end of March 2012. The Villas were nice and well appointed, but we were disappointed in the maintenance on the beach and the property itself. We had a beach side villa and the beach was dirty every day with seaweed and pop bottles. It smelled. We complained and there was some effort to clean the beach but it was too little too late. Since we could not sit at the beach we sat at the pool and there was a live wire in the accent lighting at the pool that caused a jolt. Glad we were not standing in water. While the staff reacted to our concerns, it was reactive maintenance as opposed to proactive maintenance. We were told that there was a restaurant on site but it was open sporadically. The food was mediocre at best. We had to hunt down the maid staff for toilet paper and towels, not something I would expect for the 5 star price we paid.

As for Hopkins Bay itself it was a great spot. Fantastic restaurants and great local people. The resorts at the south end of town that we visited were well looked after and very welcoming. In retrospect we would recommend staying at the south end of town. Hamanchi which we did some scuba diving from was great and very welcoming.

All in all we would recommend visiting Hopkins Bay, but we would stay at the south end of the town on the beach. We would definitely not recommend Hopkins Bay Resort.

Room Tip: Elsewhere, consider the south end of town

Hi there,
While it's never fun reading that guests did not enjoy their stay at our resort, please know that we value all kinds of feedback and that we take the opinions and ideas of our guests very seriously. We can appreciate that your time at Hopkins Bay was not everything you expected it to be and for that we truly apologize.

We do want you to know that since your stay in March 2012 we've undergone major renovation to both the interior and exterior aspects of our beach houses; we've launched our new beach bar which I do believe was the area that the electrical wires might have been visible; and most importantly we've increased staff and undergone some necessary training. All these achievements have been a part of our new management plan that we've rolled out in the first half of 2012.

Again, we apologize for the negative aspects of your experience while you were here but we're truly grateful that you got to see and experience Hopkins Village itself. We hope you choose to return to Belize again and we'd be honoured if you chose to include the village and Hopkins Bay Resort in your travel plans.
