“Quiet retreat”
Reviewed April 20, 2009

Beautiful place. The rooms are tastefully and elegantly appointed and the grounds are extremely well maintained. We loved that there is NO TV in the one-bedroom suite. Staff was exteremely nice and professional. Even the gardener offered to help me with my bags when checking out. It's a quiet retreat. If you are looking for action, you need to go on one of the scheduled trips as you won't fund much activity at the resorty itself. Great pool right on the beach. For better food and local cuisine go to KING CASSAVA in Hopkins. Rent a bike and ride around town. Very friendly local community.

Kelly & Richard from Toronto, Canada

My wife and I stayed at the dreams and had a wonderful time. Your getaway is what you make of it. We were looking for quiet and romance and to stay far away from march breakers and belize delivered.
The transportation on Maya Air to and from the resort was on time and very well coordinated.
Our room was well decorated with flowers, robes and slippers. We had an unobstructed view of the ocean and loved our afternoon coffees on our balcony. We were slightly disappointed with no TV in the one bedroom suites, and you're wondering why, we will explain in a moment.
The breakfast and dinner inclusion was amazing, the food was fantastic. The staff at the restaurant were so nice. Tyrone was a hoot. But everyone there was amazing. No attitude from anyone, which we did find elsewhere, like next door at hamanasi and jaguar reef.
We went into the town of hopkins for lunch and the people are kind, sweet, helpful and always looking to tell a story.
We went snorkeling and horseback through the jungle. The horseback we book through the jaguar reef resort and it was amazing. How often to you get to swim in a jungle river?
The weather was great, The first two days we were there it was windy, and were began to concern ourselves but the grass isn't always greener on the other side. No bites on the first two days thanks to mother natures winds. But as soon as they died down, what we were told are called "no see ems" bite you without your knowledge. We had "off" and "muskol" but they laughed at at, the bugs that is. We are still scratching. After sundown it was bad. You could not be outside. Which is why the TV would have been a nice touch. They do go away after 7pm or so.
The front office staff were all very nice and go out of their way to say hello and introduce themselves, From the general manager to the concierge.
The head concierge Ernesto, is a riot, ask him about his many "adventures". The guy runs on batteries and never sleeps.
Belize is amazing and we are planning honeymoon part two shortly.
Note: Don't go to belize if you're looking for the four seasons. This is central america and you have to understand that with all surroundings come territory. Being upset over a bug or two is the equivalent to being upset with a cold day in Canada.

Belizean Dreams is by far, the BEST resort in Hopkins. The spacious rooms, great food and personalized service is the best we have ever encountered in our travels. We chose this as our wedding destination and had no idea what to expect. The staff at Belizean Dreams went above and beyond to accomodate our group of 26. By far, the wedding and our entire experience far exceeded our expectations. For any bride and groom considering a destination wedding, we highly recommend a Belize adventure, and Belizean Dreams is the perfect place to host a large group. It is so quaint, beautiful, relaxing, and most of all the staff are professional, friendly, and so much fun! Ernesto is an outstanding concierege who took great care of us, taught us how to Punta, and really became part of our family. Felina, their exceptional wedding coordinator, will make your dream wedding a reality! Rob and Mariano did an outstanding job organizing and preparing the food. And best of all, we didn't have to worry about absolutely anything! The town of Hopkins also has a great vibe, is very close, safe, and has everything you would need. Trying the local restaurants is a must, especially Yugota's and King Cassava. Our vacation at Belizean Dreams was more than a dream...it was truly an unforgettable experience! We can't wait to go back. Cheryl and Mark

Our family of five spend a whole week at one of villas at Hopkins Bay at the end of February. We were very impressed with quality and comfort of the accommodation. Each villa has three en-suite large bedrooms which all have views of the ocean. Even though we were not in a sea front villa, the views were magnificent and we could hear the waves and had the ocean breeze coming through the villa.

The villas also have outstanding living areas with a granite kitchen. The bathrooms have a very Caribbean feel with beautifully painted sinks and lively tile colors. Overall the accommodation was exceptional.

When we got to the resort, we were greeted by the concierge who introduced us to the various aspects of the villa and the community. Both the Hopkins Bay resort and its sister resort (Belizean Dreams) have nice restaurants with very friendly staff (indeed both resorts have very friendly staff- the maids, the gardeners, etc. All greeted us with a hello whenever we passed them by). The meals at both restaurants are very good to excellent. There are several restaurants (including mom-and-pop ones) within the village where the food is excellent. We particularly enjoyed the rum-banana-ice cream at the North Beach Restaurant.

This is not a very commercial or touristy area and therefore it is an ideal and quiet setting for rest and relaxation and for spending quality time with family and friends. You will also get to see the local Grifuna people and their culture at close. They are very friendly folks and the village is very safe. We took walks and bike rides in the village and the beach and felt extremely safe. I do not know how long this tranquility and non-commercial nature of the area will last but we intend to go back to experience it again soon.

We enjoyed day trips to the Blue Hole, Maya ruins, Placencia and visiting one of the islands (Thatched Caye). Since Belize has not become a commercialized tourist area, it tends to be a bit on the expensive side when you compare it to the mass tourist locations. However, it is worth every penny or dollar to visit- and revisit. We intend to go back to Hopkins Bay resort as soon as we can.

Very beautiful resort just do not stay when a owner decides to come. Had parties with very loud dj until 3 or 4 A.M. 2 nights. Closed bar, restaurant and pool at 6 P.M. to all but his party guests. Regular guests were basically told to stay in their villa. Multiple guests went to owner and resort emploees at 1 A.M. asking for party to at least be toned down. We were told by emploees that it was a owners party and they could do nothing about it. What were we given in consolation? Nothing for basically tring to sleep in a bar 2 nights. This does not seem like a 4 star resort to me.

  • Liked — Rooms and landscaping very nice
  • Disliked — Parties until wee hours of morning in common area with guests not allowed to particapate

What an awesome stay. Can not say more about the resort, location and staff, especially both Ernesto's and Giovani. The locals also welcomed us with open arms. You have to go to U Gottas for Rosies lobster and red beans. As well as North Beach for their burrito's and other food. The beer, Stout, is unbelievable. The hotel, which is located in the village or very small town of Hopkins is perfectly located in the middle of the adventure. From horseback-riding in the jungle, to snorkling at Grover's Reef, from feeding juguars at the Belizean Zoo and Zip Lining at Jaguar Paw, it is all within driving distance from the resort. Also, try snorkling at Shark-Ray alley off the island of San Pedro. You swim with sharks, lots of them, sting-rays, barracuda, squid, squirrel fish and everyother type of marine life around. Very exciting, plus the water is approximately 85 degrees. Great resort and country, will be abck again for sure, soon.

Had an amazing time, staff was incredibly nice, weather was amazing and so were the tours. Very romantic atmosphere and we could have asked for a more relaxing vacation. The food was ok, but not much variety, but you could walk to any of the near by hotel restaurants to grab food. We were on an all inclusive plan so had no choice, but to eat at the restaurant. After a week of adventure tours we headed over to the butterfly spa at Jaugar Reef and had a wonderful his/her massage. For the rainy season, the weather was dry and hot. The only rain we got was early in the morning and done before breakfast was over. The villas were amazing and very clean.
