“Hamanasi made it a perfect adventure”
Reviewed December 14, 2008

As a dive/adventure resort - on paper Hamanasi hoped to fit the bill for my boyfriend who dives and myself who is up for everything but diving. We had no idea what to expect and the people at Hamanasi blew us away.

The staff was always available to answer any questions we had and to guide us through our stay. The rooms and accommodations were beautiful, clean and consistantly maintained.

Even though every day was planned it never felt like we were on a schedule and yet we experienced so much!

The food was both satisfying and elegant. We would look forward to the seeing what the specials were that evening and were always happy with what we chose.

The guides who take you on the Mayflower hike or any other adventure have an incredible amount of cultural and environmental information to share.

We were ready to leave as we had achieved the rest and rejuvination we were looking for. However, the sites and experiences of Hamanasi are always with us and we hope to come back very soon!

Hamanasi is a great dive resort! Coming from Afghanistan, I was really looking foward to getting out of the sand and doing some diving. I came with a good friend of mine who also dives. We were greeted at the Dangriga airport by a friendly staff member of Hamanasi. I really wish I could remember his name. He drove us to the resort pointing out varies sites along the way. Once there, we were greeted at the front desk by Jan and Patricia who were both incredibly nice. We decided not to do any inland adventures and only dive while we were there.

The dive staff were extremely friendly and professional. Top-notch diving facility. Camolley, C-Dog, CPTs Dale and Eric, and the rest of the staff were great! We dove the reefs all but one day when we dove the Blue Hole. Needless to say, it was fantastic! The very knowledgable crew kept us entertained the whole time.

And of course, who could forget coming back to the resort and having King serve us some great drinks. And the food......wow....the food is great. We even asked for a special lobster dinner that we saw in a magazine and the kitchen staff was more than happy to oblige.

At the end, we didn't want to leave but we had to. The entire staff, from the front desk, to the servers, to the housekeepers, to the grounds crew and drivers........all top notch! I would highly recommend this place for anyone. I will definitely be coming back!

My family of 5 with 2 teenagers and an 11 year old stayed at Hamanasi in August. Everything that has previously been written is true, the resort is lovely and the staff were for the most part incredible. My bad experience with the resort was more with the management on our last day and after we got home. On the last day my 11 year old daughter was shooing a cat out of her room when it bit her on the hand. This is a cat which was hanging around the resort all week and eating at a food bowl provided by staff. Several cats would hang around the outdoor restaurant and we were fine with that. We love animals. My daughter who was bit is crazy for animals.
That is when our problems started. We approached the management to ask if the cat was vaccinated for rabies. No, we were told. That cat is a wild cat but the other 2 cats hanging around ARE resort cats and had been vaccinated. We recommend you stay away from that particular cat. How were we to know that? The staff told us that rabies is not really a problem in Belize, don't worry about it. (I found out that is completely wrong when I checked with the CDC when I got home.)
Management told us that they would try to catch the cat and have a vet look at it. That night at dinner and the next day for breakfast the cat was still hanging around the restaurant approaching guests. How hard is it to catch a cat?!
My daughter was quite upset that the cat was still around. She had researched rabies in the past and she knew that once symptoms of rabies manifest themselves it is 100% fatal.
We traveled home and consulted the CDC and our pediatrician. Since the hotel provided NO followup about the cat we had to go ahead and have rabies shots administered to our daughter. This was very costly AND PAINFUL for an 11 year old girl.
Finally about 2 weeks later the management notified us that the cat had been captured and evaluated. We were already in the middle of a series of 5 shots so it was really too late. At that point I really didn't trust the management anyway.
So, the resort is beautiful but remember you are in a 3rd world country without many of the safely precautions we are accustomed to in the US.

I found Hamansi on Trip Advisor as the highest rated resort in Belize. I took the advice from others before me and booked a trip to this tropical paradise and am certainly glad that I did! I had the most excellent experience dealing with Hamanasi Resort from the early booking with Hamanasi’s offices in Florida up until the moment that I sadly had to leave the property on my final day in Hopkins.

The rooms are beautifully appointed and extremely well kept. The property grounds are fantastically groomed. The staff is unbelievably kind and caring and the food provided in the restaurant is definitely 5 stars.

I decided to book a quick 4 day trip as a romantic getaway. When we arrived in Dangriga, we were picked up by a very friendly driver who helped us into a nice van and drove us the 30 minutes it took to the resort. We were pretty tired from our travels, so it was very nice to be greeted with the smiling faces of the staff and an ice cold rum punch drink. We made our way to our beautiful tree house to find a chilled bottle of champagne and gorgeous tropical flower petals across our bed. The tree house had wonderful local accents, was extremely clean and was nice and cool.

Our first dinner at the restaurant was out of this world. The food rivals many 5 star restaurants I’ve frequented throughout the US. Everything was prepared lovingly, the wait staff was knowledgeable and courteous and made sure to take care of your every need. I must emphasize how fantastic and fresh the meals were each day.

We decided not to do any of the adventures, but to instead just relax around the beautiful pool area and to walk around the well kept grounds. We spent happy hour at the bar having fun with the bartender, Mark and meeting other divers and visitors to the resort. The resort is small enough that you easily make friends with other couples/people, but you don’t ever feel crowded. This tropical paradise had kayaking and games to play for those of us who decided to stay around the resort.

Each tree house was far enough from each other that you felt completely isolated. The paths to the tree house were lit up at night and the environment was amazing. We took bicycles into Hopkins one day to hang with the locals who were extremely welcoming and kind. There were drum circles at night and plenty of Belikin beer flowing at the local Hopkins bar in the main square.

I have traveled extensively and must say that this is one of the most amazing places I’ve stayed. It’s small and quaint and the staff knows your name from the first day they meet you. The grounds and rooms are unbelievable, the food and drink is outstanding and the resort is first class. I highly recommend this to anyone wanting to get away for a romantic trip or for those who want to take advantage of the amazing diving aspects of the area.

I hope to visit again soon! Thanks to the entire staff for making us feel like part of their family and going above and beyond to make us feel welcome in every way.

We stayed in a treehouse at Hamanasi for our honeymoon the week of Nov. 16-23, 2008. We had an amazing honeymoon, in large part due to the staff and resort itself. We chose Hamanasi after examining approximately two dozen resorts in and around Belize. The reason we decided upon Hamanasi is that it seemed to offer the perfect balance between beachfront resort and adventure resort - and it lived up to being both. We were on the 8 day/7 night romance/honeymoon package. Upon arrival, we were greeted with drinks, and our room had a bottle of champagne on ice waiting for us, along with fresh flowers. Throughout our stay the staff and tour guides were exceptional. The food was excellent too, with different menu options offered each night at dinner. Lunch and dinner were excellent; breakfast selection could be expanded a bit more, although it was still good, often filled with fresh local fruit. As an aside, we really appreciated how much Hamanasi supported the local community. The treehouse was great - secluded, private, comfortable, clean, romantic, and unique. If you're on your honeymoon, definitely go for the treehouse! Unlike the other rooms, our treehouse was a stand-along building with a private path, surrounded by nature. The bed was comfortable, and had drapes all around, which we found really cool. The deck had a hammock and chairs for relaxing. Our shower pressure seemed low, but that may just be due to Hamanasi's focus on being eco-friendly, which we fully support. They also provide purified drinking water in the rooms and on all tours. We don't dive at all, and yet still loved Hamanasi. We went kayaking, cave tubing, ziplining, spelunking in the ATM cave (most incredible adventure ever - if you're adventurous, don't miss it), horseback riding, and explored the Mayan ruins. The resort easily arranged each activity we wanted to participate in during the week. We only had to decide the day before what we were doing the next day (and all you have to do is sign up!). We were in Belize during a cool week at the end of the rainy season; so the bugs were not terrible. The resort did a good job of spraying for bugs several times a week, and we managed to escape with just a few bites. By wearing pants and long sleeves on all the excursions, we fared very well. Everyone at Hamanasi knows your name, and the staff consistently goes out of their way to make sure everything is great. Although it is not a five star resort, the Staff treats you as if it is and they do the best they can to make it as luxurious as possible in a country like Belize. The resort is well maintained with groomsmen that daily rake the sand, clean, and pick up leaves, and take good care of the swimming pool. There's a small gift shop where we purchased some local items from Belize (such as organic coffee, organic chocolate and a beautiful painting), and we rode into Hopkins to buy some local art as well. All in all we had an amazing honeymoon. We don't know whether we'll ever return to Belize, but if we do, we would definitely go back to Hamanasi!

We booked our SCUBA vacation via PADA travel service. At the small airport we were picked up by the very friendly driver who made the 45 minute ride to Hamanasi an informative tour giving us history and insights into the Belize, the people, and the small town of Hopkins. We were met by Lionel who gave us a refreshing drink and orientation. Our room was beautiful, comfortable, and we woke up to a beautiful view of the sea at 7:00 am. Off to SCUBA at 8:00 am with fantastic DiveMasters, Sea Dog, Brace, Sam I am, Ka Mally . . . All were knowledgeable, safe, and entertaining. Brace was my wife's favorite and Sea Dog mine. Although all rated at the top of any DiveMasters we have ever had. We met many other divers and by the end of the week the staff pushed tables together so our group became a banquet. Speaking of dinner and lunch and breakfast, the food here is fantastic. I am vegetarian and the entire staff made sure I was happy. They even had a special lunch for me on the longer dive trips. Jan, one of the directors was just great. We loved the Bartender, King. We saw him several times around the small town of Hopkins when he was off duty. The inland kayak trip was fun and many other guests gave high marks to the inland trips, such as ATM and Cave Tubing. We spent most of our days SCUBA diving. Diving the Blue Hole down to 130 ft was a highlight for us. The Staff really make this resort. Each of them new our name by the first day and everyone greeted us by name and exceeded all of our expectations and needs. I have long hair, so Stephanie arranged for me to get braids to keep it out of the SCUBA equipment. Our wake up call was a friendly knock on the door--no phones, and no TV. We did not miss either. The gift shop was nice. But we enjoyed going into Hopkins on a 6 seater golf cart. Others said biking into town was also fun. My wife drove the golf cart with us as back seat drivers! We loved the shop Sew Much Hemp. Get her bug lotion and you will avoid the sand flies. At night we went to town using the Hamanasi van. They came promptly at the agreed upon time. When we said we needed another hour to listen to drumming and dancing the returned promptly in 1 hour. This is truly an amazing resort for SCUBA divers and other adventure seekers. We met a couple who did not SCUBA and they had equally high reviews for their inland hikes, cave tubing, bird watching, etc. Driver, Golden took us back to the airport again giving us an inside picture of life in Hopkins and Belize. He even showed us his house. This is a one of a kind resort and we will be back.
