“Beautiful retreat in Hopkins with kind staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 13, 2013

We really enjoyed our stay at Parrot Cove even though the week we were there was 130 degree heat index. We did upgrade to the expanded size room and it was well worth the additional charge. The grounds are well maintained and the housekeepers are so sweet. Front office staff are friendly and helpful too! They went out of their way to help us arrange transportation several times which was so much appreciated!

The pool was refreshing and it was nice to have hammocks available to relax beachside. Wifi access is better on one side of the property but the front office will kindly let you know where the router is so you can easily get stronger service with your laptop there. Keep in mind that the location of Parrot Cove is outside of "town" so be prepared to taxi, walk or bike a couple of miles to your destination. The road is gravel/rock with LOTS of huge potholes so riding a bicycle is more like mountain biking a rough trail. It can be done, though. While a backpacker might prefer to be located more centrally in the village, a traditional visitor will enjoy the location of Parrot Cove because it is less busy and very relaxing.

We used a kayak one day which was nice but there were only 1.5 paddles available so the second kayak had to use a half rower and get creative. Nonetheless, it was an enjoyable stay. Truly, the staff at Parrot Cove make the experience wonderful. They are kind and generous and always friendly and helpful. We would definitely return to Hopkins and Parrot Cove. The upgraded room was great with a comfortable bed, futon sofa, kitchen table and small kitchenette. It was so nice to have purified water in a large container in the room too so we did not need to purchase that from the market each day.

Oh! And if you have a room near the bougainvillea bush, don't be alarmed if you hear noises on your roof. There's a giant lizard who lives there and you'll hear him walk across the roof very loudly but it gives it character. There are other sizable critters that call Hopkins home, so just be prepared. The night I first saw the possum, I almost had a heart attack, but he has a hole near the pool area with an entrance on the wall that separates the pool deck from the restaurant, so at night you may cross paths with him, too. All is well and safe though - it's part of the fun of visiting the jungle!

Room Tip: Upgrade to a room with a kitchenette - far more spacious, better air conditioning, laptop workspace.

My other half and I spent 2 weeks at Parrot Cove Lodge in May and we absolutely loved it. It is a small hotel located right on the beach, with lovely clean rooms and very friendly staff. It's an ideal place to get away from it all and just watch the day go by. If you want to be more active, there is plenty to see and do in & around Hopkins and the staff will be more than willing to arrange it all for you.
Rob and Corey (the owners) can't do enough for you and will ensure that you really do enjoy your stay at Parrot Cove Lodge. They arranged our wedding for us (at the hotel) and made our wedding day truly special & memorable.

Spent a long weekend here. The staff was great and I spent a long day talking with Miss Corey one of the managers. The whole place felt like a home away from home. The staff was so attentive to all my needs. I can't wait to return again.

Gosh, where to start...there were so MANY positives about this place. We booked a dive/hotel package for a week at the end of April. Breakfast and dinner were included, and on the days that we had to be on the boat super early (6:00 am), Chef Rob arranged for the kitchen to be open at 5:00 am JUST for us!! We felt bad about that, and told him on one of the days just to pack us some hard boiled eggs and some of his wonderful hand crafted breads the night before. That evening a cornucopia of cheeses, fruit, bread, juice, eggs and brownies were delivered to our room in a cooler, along with dishes, glasses, silverware and linen! A real class act!

The Resort is small and intimate...right on the beach with hammocks and a boat dock. The staff couldn't be nicer, you are on a first name basis right away.We stayed in Room 3 by the pool, and it was exceptionally quiet...which suited us, because we were up early most mornings to dive. Our routine was: roll out of bed, roll into the beachfront restaurant for breakfast, and roll 20 feet or so to the boat dock to meet our dive boat, operated by Hopkins Undersea Adventure (a stellar operation!)

Favorite thing about the room: the efficient, quiet air conditioner!!!
Least favorite thing about the room: nothing

We celebrated our 29th anniversary here, and on our anniversary night, Corrie arranged an evening boat cruise with Happy Go Luckie Tours on the Sittee River and Anderson Lagoon (which glowed with bioluminescence!). The sea was quite choppy, so rather than subjecting us to all the chop, Luckie took the boat around to the mouth of the Sittee River, and Corrie gave us a courtesy ride over to the Marina to meet him. She also sent us off with a complimentary split of champagne to celebrate our special night! When we returned from our cruise we dressed for dinner and found they had prepared a special reserved table for us nicely decorated with flowers. Raymond, our server took photos until he got the perfect shot.

On none dive days, we walked up the beach to Hopkins one day, and used the complimentary bicycles to get there the next. Once there we bought beers in the local grocery store (a bottle opener is provided at the store's exit) and sat in the town square chatting with locals and eating conch fritters sold by 2 cute little girls on a bicycle. We never got around to using the complimentary sit ontop kayaks, but they looked like fun, and will make time next trip.

I HIGHLY recommend Parrot Cove Lodge. I couldn't be happier with the service and accommodations. Every need was met, and I felt they went above and beyond their service expectations!

Oh, one more thing...the food was superb! I was particularly partial to Chef Rob's creative soups and salads; very interesting ingredient combinations...all fresh and local. I also liked that the food was not fat laden or greasy. I didn't 'diet' during the vacation, and only gained 3 pounds...probably from the delish rum dreams and tiramisu!! The snapper was to die for...as was the pork loin. My husband who 'hates' crepes ordered Chef Rob's crepes every time they were on the menu :)

Thank you Parrot Cove, keep doing what you do!

Room Tip: All rooms around the pool seemed comparable...the pool was a very quiet area.

This was our first time in Belize. I got a package through Expedia and I thought it was a good value, but when we looked around while in Hopkins, I was really happy to find out that we made a smart choice as this is an excellent priced resort. Located right on the nice sandy beach, close to the village of Hopkins, and has the best restaurant in the area: Chef Rob's restaurant. Very happy with our stay.

Stayed only one night, but what a great find. The room was simply fantastic. It also had a balcony which looked right out on the beach and the waves. The owners are the nicest people and Rose made the stay very welcoming. I am definitely going to come back again. Oh! The restaurant is one of the best I have eaten at in Belize. Chef Rob is a ridiculously, amazing chef!

Stayed here for a weekend getaway to Hopkins while I was working at Hillside Clinic near Punta Gorda. It felt like the staff bent over backwards for our group the entirety of the stay. They helped schedule snorkeling, scuba diving, and even travel to and from the lodge. The accommodations were great, with a pool, ocean dock, and one of the best restaurants in town right at the lodge, serving both breakfast and dinner. 2 Kayaks were available free of charge as were 5 bicycles to get to and from town if needed. The staff was incredibly friendly including the wait staff at Chef Rob's, the Bartender and the front desk staff. If and when I come back to Hopkins, I will be staying here again.
