Let me start by saying that I wish I were back at Mama Noots as opposed to writing about them right now. I just returned from a 4-night stay in paradise with my sister, aunt and a friend, and none of us wanted to leave. This eco resort is bound to be "THE" place to stay as the new owners have done something truly amazing with this beautiful piece of property. We were greeted with love and that only grew throughout our stay. We couldn't help but take photo after photo beginning with opening the doors to our rooms. I honestly felt like I was on a romantic getaway with the gals... it was awesome! We had many adventures both at Bocawina and off site. Every excursion we did was well worth the money. Cesar is the kindest, sweetest, caring guy- you have to get to know him. We were fortunate to have the same two fantastic tour guides for both our waterfall repelling hike and the zip line (longest in Central America!). If you can request to have Hugo and Vidal, you should. On top of that, the food was spectacular. Shawn and Stasha do an amazing job preparing delicious meals and Stephanie (who deserves a Gold Medal of her own) brings you delicious coffee and fresh squeezed juices every morning as you're rolling out of bed and prepping for your day ahead. It really is the wonderful staff that made our trip so memorable. Any and everything we needed, they graciously accomodated. Don even brought me a yoga mat so I could practice my yoga while I was staying with them. Now THAT is a personal touch! I feel as if we not only made friends but also family down at Mama Noots... I'm confident you'll feel the same way!

Room Tip: The Parrot and Howler Monkey rooms are individual rooms but are adjoining. Perfect for a family AND...

My husband and I stayed at Mamo Noots for 4 nights and loved our jungle retreat. If you're looking for a quiet and relaxing vacation to get back in touch with nature but not quite ready to leave the conveniences of modern living, then this is the spot. We stayed at the Garden Suite, which was a spacious private bungalow - had a cute living area, and the entire space, including the bathroom are modern (esp. appreciated the shower pressure). No A/C though but it's the jungle, so as expected. Bocawina falls was a quick 30 min hike and we got to enjoy its beauty all by ourselves. The staff at Mama Noots were wonderful - from the owners, to the restaurant staff and the tour guides. Food at the restaurant was yummy, especially loved their mango flan dessert. If you're up for an adventure and a challenging hike, you must do the Antelope Falls rapelling and zipline combo.

We had a blast at Mama Noots. The owners Don and Stasha were fantastic and very accommodating as well as the staff. We felt very comfortable being at the resort with the great hospitality from Stephanie. Mama Noots is situated in the jungle of Belize and we recommend bringing heavy duty insect repellent as well as sunscreen. We did a number adventures including the Xunantunich Mayan Ruins and Tube Caving (w/ Emelio), Bocawina Rappelling and Ziplining (w/ Henry and Jose). They also have self-guided hiking which you can do in your own time and leisure. Every lunch and dinner we would be served and have a few laughs with Daniel our waiter. The staff really looked after us and we could continue raving on about this place. It is so far the best vacation we've had.

This is not a place if you want luxury, and A/C - the rooms are very nice with only a roof fan to keep you cool. The food here great, but would've been good to also have alternative Belizean cuisines. Overall, our trip to Mama Noots was fantastic and since being back home we miss the place. We highly recommend Mama Noots for those who enjoy wildlife, scenery and culture.

Room Tip: No A/C. Bring heavy duty bug repellent and at least 30+ sunscreen.

We went to the restaurant for lunch after hiking up to Antelope Falls. The building was clean and attractive. We ordered a couple of Cokes and some chips and dip while we looked at the menu. The chips tasted like they had been baked while Bill Clinton was in office and were inedible. Thinking this might be a preview of lunch, we aborted and asked for a check. I mentioned to the young man waiting on us that the food seemed to be older than I am and he just smiled and nudged the bill over to me.
I can't speak to the experience of staying at the resort, but hopefully it's more enjoyable than our (attempted) lunch.

I am so sorry that your experience with us was judged by the tortilla chips. We are at the mercy of our purveyors and the chips were just bought a few days before. I tried to catch you when Daniel told me of the problem with the stale chips but you were gone already. You were absolutely right about the chips and now we are making our own chips daily. I am sorry, please accept my apology. If you email us your address, I will be happy to send you a refund.

I enjoyed visiting your city in Texas. We stayed there a couple of years ago.

How can we possibly begin to share how much we enjoyed our stay at Mama Noots? We purchased a package deal and began our first trip to Belize on the beach in Hopkins. We had a fabulous time, it was beautiful and how can you not love the Caribbean? But our time spent at Mama Noots was truly the best experience we have ever had. The staff is beyond outstanding. Stephanie is so kind, so genuine and one of the nicest people we have ever met. She goes above and beyond to make your experience unforgettable. Otis is a sweetheart. He's so warm and friendly and makes you feel so welcome. He's particular about his margaritas but they were awesome. And then there's Sean. Who would have ever thought we would find a chef in the middle of the jungle in Belize who was from our hometown? We so enjoyed his company not to mention his food - outstanding! We also met the owners, Stasha and Don. Such a warm and friendly couple, and we just couldn't express to them how much we loved their resort. The guides, Tony and Emilio, just to mention a few, were so friendly, knowledgeable and fun to be around. Everyone at Mama Noots was wonderful, and truly the best staff we've encountered anywhere.

The grounds at Mama Noots are beautiful! Situated at the base of the Maya Mountains with jungle all around - just breathtaking. The sounds are something we will never forget. There's nothing more peaceful than hearing those Belizean birds and other wildlife in the jungle. The first night we were there, we heard what sounded like a roar and then another answering in the distance and found out that what we were hearing were howler monkeys. Just awesome! The accommodations were fantastic as well. We stayed in the Howler Monkey Room that was so beautifully decorated, extremely comfortable and windows all around with great breezes blowing through. When we booked our accommodations, the Howler Monkey Room was only available the first night so we booked the Casita for the remaining three. We mentioned to Stephanie that we were supposed to move that night but that we really did like the Howler Monkey Room. Aside from the beautiful room, we loved sitting out on the screened-in porch. Later that day, after returning from one of the many excursions that Stephanie arranged for us, she greeted us to let us know that she was able to arrange for us to stay in the Howler Monkey Room. And on top of that, she let us know that two friends we met at the resort that we wanted to join us on a trip to Xunantunich and cave-tubing did decide to join us and that the excursion was booked for the four of us the next day. Again, we can’t say enough about Stephanie. She arranged several excursions for us, made sure we knew what to bring, what to wear, letting us know there would be places to shop and even packing us drinks and snacks for our trip.

The other excursions offered that we thoroughly enjoyed were into Southern Belize to the Belize Spice Farm and Botanical Gardens, Lubataan and Nim Li Punit, The Monkey River tour, horseback riding at the Outback Trails and one awesome zip line right on the grounds. Make sure you get to the Bocawina Falls which are also on the property. Beautiful and so refreshing.

We can’t say enough about what a truly awesome time we had here. We really felt like we were leaving our best friends behind the day we left. We definitely plan to go back. If you want a great place to stay and truly experience Belize, this is the place to go. Thank you for such an incredible adventure!

The second leg of our Living Social package brought us to the jungle of Belize, the Mayflower Bocawina National Park, to be precise. First of all I really liked the location because it was still relatively close to the beach (about a 30 minute drive).

So where do I begin? Everything was amazing! The food, the service and the rooms were outstanding, not to mention fun activities right at your feet! Don and Stasha are the people who took the resort over and have really turned this place around. The rooms were beautifully remodeled and everything was fresh and clean. There is a high ceiling fan in the room and screened in windows (to keep the critters out) that allow a cool cross breeze to flow through the room. There is also a screened in porch so you can hangout outside and watch the birdies.

The staff at Mama Noot’s is fantastic! From the minute I started planning our vacation Stephanie was there with me. She is amazing and one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. She helped us with everything and made sure we did everything we wanted to do. All the guys that work on the grounds are really friendly. Ronal and Hugo took us up in the zip line. Emelio was our guide the pyramids and the caves. Otis and Daniel took care of as the restaurant and Lito was our night security guard. We know all their names because everyone was so personable and kind. They really take the time to talk to you and we feel like we left our friends when we departed.

The food is AMAZING. My husband and I live in San Francisco and consider ourselves to be pretty big foodies. Sean’s cooking knocked our socks off. Sean is the chef at the resort and is an expat from Pittsburg. He has great stories to share and tons of insight about the country. Everyday we looked forward to eating because the food was delicious. In the mornings we had the continental breakfast, which included fresh fruits (papaya, plantains, pineapple, cantaloupe and watermelon… sadly mango wasn’t in season yet) with yogurt. Also, Stasha is a pastry chef so we enjoyed a variety of warm pastries on our plates every morning. Also the coffee was delicious. Peet’s ain’t got nothing on this coffee. Stephanie would also make us fresh squeezed juice! Sometimes orange and sometimes watermelon! Lunch has a set menu; I recommend the shrimp tacos with hand made tortillas… so good I’m drooling thinking about them. For dinner, Sean would change the menu around every night so there were different things to choose from. He specializes in soups so if he makes it, try it! We had awesome seafood gumbo, clam chowder and curried fish soup. I had a barracuda steak for the first time, also delicious! I can’t speak highly enough about the food!

So on to the activities…. The resort is already in a National Park so when you get up in the mornings there are tons of birds to look at. They are everywhere. I could have spent hours just watching them. There are also many waterfalls you can hike to right there on the property. You can have guide take you, but we just went off on our own. It was so easy to get to. After our hike we cooled off in the spring waters of the waterfall. They also offer waterfall repelling but we didn’t get a chance (next time)! They also have the longest zip line in all of Central America. It was so fun! The guys that take you up there actually built the damn thing. They actually built the zip line around the trees so none of the trees were harmed. Totally fun! On another day one of the guides took us to the Mayan ruins, Xunantunich. It was amazing to the see all the history and once you get to the top of the pyramid you have a 360-degree view around the whole land! You can see right into Guatemala. Then after that Emelio took us to a popular site for cave tubing. Oscar had worked there for several years and knew the caves like the back of his hand. Unfortunately, there was a large group from a cruise line right before us and they scared away all the bats so we didn’t see any of those guys, but it was still beautiful.
Another day we went into the town of Dangriga and walked around the fish market and fruit market. Then we went out on a boat that took us up and down the coastline. Quite spectacular!

Overall, we had an amazing experience and look forward to returning. None of this would have been possible with out the friendly and knowledgeable staff at Mama Noot’s and we can’t thank them enough for this!

Room Tip: We stayed in one of the duplex casita's, the Parrots Nest. It was perfect!
