My family of 5 stayed at the White Horse for 9 days over Christmas 2017 and we are so glad we chose this guesthouse. The location is perfect...right on the beach with a full grocery store next door on one side and a great eating and drinking establishment on the other side. There are also many, many other options for purchasing food and supplies, gifts, quick meals, full meals, or drinks within easy walking distance, either using the main road or by walking down the beach. You can also rent golf carts or bikes just a few houses down and explore the entire beautiful village of Hopkins that way. Unfortunately the owners were away during our visit, so we did not get to meet them, but I corresponded with both Carl and Laurene prior to our stay and they immediately helped me with any questions I had. They left us in great hands with their friends who took over management duties in their absence and provided full service and a lot of fun! We were treated with homemade baked goods and fresh fruit upon our arrival, hot cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning, and the biggest pancakes I have ever seen on the morning of our departure; all so very thoughtful. We had the suite and an additional room and both were immaculate and comfortable. The suite has a microwave, cooktop, toaster oven, full refrigerator, and all of the cooking utensils you need to prepare meals in house if you choose. Although I have to say that it is difficult to cook yourself when there are so many amazing, affordable options within walking distance any direction you go from the White Horse. The people of Hopkins are not only amazingly kind and humble, they are also incredible cooks and the managers and owners are happy to share information about all of the options. We loved the "goodie closet" that they open up every morning that houses boogie boards, tubes, extra beach chairs, books, cards, games, umbrellas, etc. that are available for guest use all day. They also provided beach towels and were willing to replace them whenever we needed new ones by simply asking, which was also the case with bath towels, kitchen towels, bedding, etc. We felt like it was a very individualized experience without a set schedule of housekeeping - very easygoing with no time tables - exactly what we were looking for on our tropical vacation! The only thing I would caution travelers about is the weekend noise from Ella's Cool Place next door, which we were warned about ahead of time by the owners. The music is very loud, as are the patrons as they play beach volleyball right outside of the bedroom windows, so those with young children or with sensitivity to noise may want to take that into consideration. We had a 15 year old and two 20 year olds with us so it didn't bother us a bit, but I can see that being a problem for some. The White Horse does offer air conditioning for a small additional fee, so you could shut all windows and turn on the AC over the weekend if necessary. And to leave this review on an extremely positive note - the beer truck and the meat/veggie truck both deliver right to the door on Thursdays. Talk about paradise!
