We spent the first 2 nights of our Belize vacation at the Hopkins Inn.. We have been to Belize 4 times before, but never to Hopkins.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in our cabana at Rita & Greg's place. It was spacious, clean, and comfortable with everything that we needed.

Although a cold front had moved in and it was very windy with lots of waves and some rain, we enjoyed sitting on our porch reading, or walking through the town and dining at various restaurants in town (try Chef Rob's, Innie's, YuGaDa). The waves pounded at night and lulled us to sleep.

We were able to finally sit on the beach on our last morning there when the wind had settled down and the sun was out and it was very peaceful. A few locals walked by, but otherwise it felt like our private beach.

Rita & Greg are the perfect hosts - they are there when you need them but they respect your privacy. Rita's breakfasts were delicious as described in previous reviews and we thoroughly enjoyed them.

We would definitely return to the Hopkins Inn and highly recommend it.

Greg & Rita Duke are great hosts. The cabana was everything we needed being beachfront facing the ocean. Rita's delicious breads and fresh fruit were enjoyed every morning. They were very helpful with information of what to do, where to eat and to shop if need be. We saw manatees from the shoreline! Really enjoyed the Garifuna culture, drumming and food! A great experience. Relaxing. Thank you!!!

What a great little find in Hopkins! Rita and Greg were great, and we loved chatting with them. Neat, pretty cottages on the beach...lots of room...with a fridge as well as tables and chairs. We liked the village of Hopkins: the Garifuna people were really friendly, and the local food was great (we ate at Innies, Yugada's, and Chez Rob---all great places to eat). This was a great value. Breakfasts were included--toasts and breads of differetn sorts as well as fruits, sometimes an egg.

The roads suck, but that is Belize. Even walking down the streets at night, we always felt safe and the townspeople were incredibly hospitable. We dove with Hamanasi dive operation down at the resort a mile away.

The ONE thing that I would caution people about is noise at night. If you are the kind of person who needs quiet, you might want a different kind of place away from a little village like this. There is no air conditioning...we did not need it. But even with window louvers shut, you can hear the village dogs barking or roosters crowing. Bring earplugs if this might help you. No people yelling---just animal sounds.

We stayed 3 nights at the Hopkins Inn in the oceanfront cabana (see photos). Our stay at the Hopkins Inn was the highlight of our week long trip to Belize. The Hopkins Inn accommodations were very comfortable and very clean. The beach is beautiful and waking up to a smooth as glass Caribbean sea was great. Greg and Rita are terrific hosts and will gladly answer any silly question a visitor can compose. Greg suggested we leave our car parked and walk the town of Hopkins, which we did, and it was fascinating to meet and talk with the wonderful Garifuna people. The breakfasts of fruit, juice and local breads were outstanding and made for a great beginning to each day. We were also happy to hear from Greg and Rita that hurricane Richard did minimal damage to the Hopkins Inn.

We stayed at the Hopkins Inn this July for 5 nights. Hopkins Inn is a perfect location. It's a 5 minute walk to the main intersection. Rita, our host, is very friendly and spends time visiting and helping with all things "Hopkins". She makes a lovely healthy breakfast too! Our room was an ocean front cabana and we were so happy with it. It's all you need!

The first thing we did when we arrived was rent bikes at Dolly's Bike rental. We really just chilled out in the town and on the beach and took a few trips in our beater of a car. This town lives on the main street - walking, riding, visiting. We loved Hopkins. The folks are the friendly and kind and very proud of their little town. Make sure to visit the co-op bakery in the yellow building on the beach. They make the best coco bread in the world!! Also, have a "Hopkins" pizza at the Driftwood pizza place. Take a drumming lesson at Lebaru. Also, buy street food from everywhere!! We took some balls, skipping ropes and crayons and felts to give away. It was really appreciated.

This is a special place and will make a special memory.

My partner and I chose to go to Belize, and split the trip into two: half on an all-inclusive package, and half on our own (we rented a car from crystal auto, and were able to do all of the things that we wanted, but weren't offered with the all-inclusive). We had made reservations with the Belize Zoo, and when we called to confirm a few days before leaving, they had no record of our reservation. We decided to see if we could find a place in Hopkins, and arrived at the Hopkins Inn - which was amazing.

The cabanas are very clean, and you will always feel welcome there. Greg and Rita are fantastic, and the breakfast can't be beat. They are well-integrated into the local culture, and can tell you about Hopkins - from where to eat and what to see.

If you're looking to relax, there are hammocks on the beach, where you can spend hours lazing away the day if you'd like... or you can head out to the Jaguar Reserve, or even rent bikes and ride down to the river and look for toucans.

In retrospect, staying at the Hopkins Inn was my favorite part of going to Belize. While it may be a couple years before we return, we've already decided that this is where we'd like to stay again!

The Hopkins Inn has four cabannas 2 larger ones near the water and 2 with a water view. I recommend the larger units because of the extra room and the view in the morning. Greg and Rita run the inn and will accomodate most any request. We went on a catamaran trip (excellent), a hike to Mayflower (challenging and fun) and a kayak trip (great) in the Cockscomb reserve. I just mentioned to Rita what we wanted to do and she made the arrangements. We also sailed a hobie cat at the Windschief which is next door. The Windschief is an internet/bar run by Olie from Germany. The Windschief has a fun group who go there and they have a nice dart board. The restaurants in Hopkins are great. We ate at Rob's, Innes and Thongs. Rob's is definitely the best and a little more expensive but worth it. While in town David's woodworking is interesting. David will make about anything you ask for. The breakfast was great at Hopkins Inn. Fresh fruit, bread, fresh orange juice and cheese. Snorkeling on the catamaran trip was unforgetable. The catamaran goes to bread and butter key and another key and the different fish were amazing. On the catamaran trip, they serve some good food and plenty of Belikin (a must do). I can't wait to return.
