“"Great time"”

We just completed a 17 day stay with Mel and her father Eugene. It was a great experience. They were always helpful and ready to assist in any way possible to make your stay enjoyable. Mel is a great cook and can prepare anything you want. Our cottage was clean and quiet at night away from the drumbeats of town. I would recommend these nice people. We will do it again

We stayed for 1 night at Palmento Grove over the holiday season and truly loved it! Being really intrigued by the Garifuna culture I had specifically selected Palmento Grove so my boyfriend could experience the culture as well. Well, it did not let us down! At the time of booking Mel could not have been more kind! She really kept us looking forward to our stay. Upon arrival we were greeted by Ed, who owns the property with Mel, his daughter. He showed us our room and even offered us an upgrade to another room. Although both were great we opted for the upgrade to a traditional thatch-roof cottage to gain the full experience. After settling in we took a quick 5 minute drive into the main area of town, where we took in the atmosphere over some cold Belikins and wandered the dirt roads. Palmento Grove is very close to the main area, but off the beaten path, which was perfect after a days worth of touring. For dinner we had informed Mel a few days prior that we wished to have a traditional Garifuna fish meal. Let me just say de-lic-ious! It wasn't my first, but it was defiintely my best. Definitely let her talk you into the sweet potato pone dessert! You'll thank me later. Our nights sleep in the cottage was quite comfy. All-in-all it was a very relaxing day in the quiet town of Hopkins. Palmento Grove is the best option for a hotel in the area, especially if you want to experience the true Garifuna culture in a Garifuna Village

My parents and I stayed for a week in Palmento Grove over the Christmas holidays and had a wonderful time. Eugene and Mel, the father/daughter team that run the resort are warm and inviting. We felt more like family when we left than guests. The resort is simple, a five-star luxury resort it is not, but if you want a quiet, simple, clean room and excellent food, Palmento Grove is the place. Mel's grilled fish was the best fish I had the two weeks that we were in Belize, including the luxury restaurants in San Pedro. The resort is not on the beach but it is an easy two minute walk and being a little off the beach allowed for far more quiet and privacy. This is also a great place to get a taste for Garifuna culture. The resort is close to the drum center and Mel and Eugene were full of information about events in the area. Again, this isnt a place you go to be waited on hand and foot with spa treatments and poolside service, but if you just want a relaxed, friendly environment at a great value, Palmento Grove is great.
