My wife and I stayed in the "Tree House" to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We were both very impressed with the property, ocean views and service from Jungle Jeanie and her staff. Can not believe something so homey is so close to the water. Has a very B&B fill and you talk to the owners and staff daily, any problem they will solve!
First off, let me say this, Big cash, lots of cash, small bills. We did this and we had no problem on our trip. There is not an ATM in the village and everyone only takes cash for goods and tours even. we took $700 US per and had no problem, could have made it with $500.
We took a puddle jumper from Belize city to Dangria, where Miss Barbara had previously scheduled ground transportation to the resort. A short 40 min drive (last 20 min is down dirt road through Hopkins) and we pulled into Jeanie's. Upon arrival, Resort staff had rooms ready for check in, even through we arrive 2 hours earlier than expected. Juilan took our luggage to our beautiful room 3 levels up, where I had requested Champange and flowers to be placed in the room.(Thanks Barbara!)
The room had a queen size bed, small table, mini fridge and oscolating fan. The bathroom prodive a pedistool sink, toliet and a shower (shower is insta-hot, 120v is wire to shower head) While the shower is not piping hot, it was plenty warm enough to shower on a hot muggy day/night. Our room also had a fronnt deck, which another table and set of chairs were place to enjoy the beach, which was maybe 20 feet away(see photo from door). All windows had screens and clear shutters, which might opt for some to not parade around your room, although there was hardly any foot traffic on the beach during off season. There is a safe on site, but we brought a small travel safe which worked fine.
The beach was well taken care of. I was up every morning by 6am (the wild life will let you know it is time to enjoy the beach) and the staff had already cleaned and raked the beach. There are several chairs and hamicks on the property to use (free). Jeanie also had some water equipment for use.
The Property is guarded by 4 (loving) german sheppards. Being a dog person, I loved playing with them on the Beach (miss you Louie!). Xena and her pups keep out any unwanted visitors, and patrol to property most of the day/night. Now in saying all that, there was/is no need for the protection, has it was incredibly safe in Hopkins while we where there. We walked/golfcart our way up and down Hopkins with no problem day or night. Also there is someone at the property at night incase of emergencies and the owners live on site.
There is no television, but there is internet. I know what your thinking "Great, now I can take care of all those work emails".... No, you are on VACATION, you are in a developing country and literaly one foot in the ocean. Take photos on your phone, upload them to Facebook to show your friends what they are missing and carry on. That being said, the internet is not strong enough to stream, skye, download new Batman movie. You can check you status or the news, and thats about as far as it will take you. There is a laptop in the front house that they can assist you in finding information.
Miss Barbara was a great help. Not only did she scheduled our flights in and out of Dangria, but also help schedule other appts, car rental, tours. Just ask, she'll help. You can have cars delivered to the property, have massages come to you. Just ask!
Sarah and Nicole where the two cooks on staff. They definely know a way to a mans heart. Their cooking was great. Breakfast is served every morning, a le cart. Dinner is optional, which you will need to let them know if you a planning to eat dinner with them. They plan dinner most nights. For breakfast I highly reccomend the Fry Jacks and a fruit plate!
Jeanies is located north of some other the other major resorts. A 10 min walk down south on the beach can lead you to other resturants such as Jaguar Reef (see my review), Chef Robs and a great massage and coffee shop, Butterflies. North of the property(about a 15 min walk down the dirt road) is the main ave of Hopkins. Resturants like Innies (See my review) and Driftwood pizza is at the northern tip.
Also along this road is Dung Lees (market/store) and many gift shops (Stop by Alex's shell stand) and Touring company "Alternate Adventures" (see my review) where you can get tours and motor bike/golf cart rentals.
It was a wonderful stay, Jeanie and John did a great job with the property and they have a great staff. We made sereval friends at the breakfast/dinner table and will defintely look to coming back again soon.
