“Relaxing stay”
Reviewed March 13, 2014

Stayed at the lone pine for four nights on way back from NZ. Chose it because we wanted to just relax and that's exactly what we were able to do at this hotel.
We were in a first floor room in the older part with views of the sea and soothing sound of the waves breaking on the shore. Spotlessly clean, comfortable beds and very quiet air con. These rooms have an enclosed shuttered balcony in which we enjoyed sitting for our lunch.
The staff were excellent, polite, friendly and helpful. We enjoyed conversations with them, learning about their life in Penang.
We went into Georgetown on the free shuttle minibus, you have to book, and wished afterwards that we'd booked there taxi guided tour.
Our pick up for the airport was not until 17.30 and on request at the start of our stay we were given a complimentary extension to vacate our room at 17.00. Our only regret was that we should have booked for a little longer. Our thanks to all the staff for making our stay so relaxing.

Spent a night at this hotel as it came highly recommended by a female friend. I like the room very much, spacey, high ceiling, cosy balcony with a small spa...the room is a winner!

We sat by the pool and chatted the whole night while trying everything on the drink menu, hoping to get something good but....it was a disaster.

The breakfast was simple. Not a massive variety but it was good enough. Had the char okay teow....it was a bit too oily, otherwise a must try.

This hotel is just short handed! They do have a lot of experienced staff but it took over an hour to get the wine opener....

If you want a quiet place on your own, just jostling between the room and the pool, this place is great. Anymore, it is a stretch.

Personally, I would make a second trip because we got a lot of smiles from the staff!

We stayed at lone pine penang with the whole family early of the year and booked 3 rooms. Our rooms were upgraded and our upgraded room was huge! very clean very neat and peaceful. our room just lack of view but that's okay because we spend most of our time outside the room. there's even a bathtub some sort in the balcony to relax in. the design of the room itself is just amazing.

The only problem we had was during check-in. all of us were already tired from the terrible traffic getting there with all closed roads for a celebration everywhere and just wanna get in our rooms but then my rooms had problems with the key card. i had to change it almost 3 to 4 times. but the staff was very helpful and sort it out in no time. the staffs are friendly & helpful.

The pool area is a nice place to just relax. there's like a cute "tent" to sit in but are always full. and when the pool area is full, it is really FULL, there would be no space at all. Right next to the pool is the restaurant with delicious food, free flow of buffet and few selections of Ala cart. They also have a game room where you have some games and books to read.

The beach was just okay. we went for jet ski ride, parasailling etc etc. but they have 2 different prices, one for local and one for foreigners. for the locals would be cheaper.

The best part during the night time we could just walk out from the hotel and its already a night market. a very long night market. just to walk around during the night. foot massages were also everywhere.

Overall, it is an amazing experience.

Beautiful place for pre-wedding shoots. Greenery. Clean and neat. Friendly and fast response team. Lovely hotel. Love the room design. Not much noise pollution for us, though our room is above the lobby, near to swimming pool and right beside it is the restaurant. A nice place for couple and family.

Booked via Air Asia Go. Photos of hotel looked great....the reality even better in the black and white colonial style.
Very relaxed and kid-friendly.
Beautifully spacious rooms.
Good selection at the buffet breakfast with healthy options...bircher muesli, smoothies/lassi etc.
Extremely polite staff which is always a bonus!
A great place to have a wedding.

Room Tip: We got the premier rooms which had 2 queen-sized beds per room. Inter-connecting rooms available.

We stayed here with family as part of a bigger trip around Malaysia and Borneo. We weren't too sure about Penang but it was convenient for connecting flights. I'd read that the sea was dirty and so picked a hotel with a nice pool. We were not disappointed with the Lone Pine. Rooms are lovely, spacious with added bonuses of a stocked minibar (basic but free of charge), nice toiletries and a lovely bathtub on the balcony - a great novelty.

Breakfast wAs great, although I would agree that service can lack at times. Easier to go with a "go get your own" mentality. The bar is nice but it was quiet and lacked atmosphere - they sure try and attract non-guests with drinks promotions and live music etc.

The pool is the star attraction, huge, child friendly and a perfect temperature. Fairly good pool side service, although a drink could take a while to be delivered for no known reason.

We used the hotel to arrange a long morning sight-seeing in Georgetown which was successful and reasonably priced. Laundry was expensive but could easily be found over the road. Whilst massages were reasonably priced we used George and Rose on the beach at 60 MRB for an hour which was lovely.

All in all a very successful stay. We only stayed for 4 nights but could have done a couple more. Two weeks would be too long because of limited attractions nearby.

I agree with previous review the noise at night wax a problem for me.The other disappointment the bar is soulless we went down for a cocktail and were the only people there likewise we called in after our meal and again we were the only ones there. No complaints about the hotel it was clean and staff very friendly. The pool was very clean and the garden is very relaxing except for the screams from the water sports on the beach outside.
