this was one of those stays when despite there being a few niggles, one just feels so happy to be staying at the hotel, that the niggles count for naught..
Its probably easiest to address the niggles: there should be more television channels available; toiletries could be of higher quality (NB: nobody likes using a combined shampoo/conditioner!) (we found a stall selling Penang-made organic cold-pressed soap, including one made from nutmeg oil - nutmegs are SO Penang, so why not commission them?); restaurant service was well-meaning, but lacked refinement; oh yes - the DVD selection was miserable!
everything else was stunning! the tranquil ambience, the warmth of the service, splendid breakfast buffet (we loved toasting our bread on the charcoal brazier!), best ever OJ, rooms were decently-sized - I loved the cushioned "laptop lap board" which reminded me of my prep board at school!
The location is, of course, unbeatable and the beach is fine..I didnt really see any guests spending much time on the beach, and who can blame them when the hotel is such a comfortable haven
Its really difficult to place what is so appealling about the Lone Pine - there is no single element that wows you..its more that the combination of subtle touches truly wins you overMore
