The food was beautifully presented and delicious. We had a small problem in that my husband's chicken was pink and undercooked but it was swiftly replaced and we were given a discount. Basically, we were very pleased.

Nothing o dislike, excellent service, lovely food, not too much atmosphere as there were only one or two diners, Violet's is a bit out of the way, it will be sad if it does not survive.

We booked an apartment in Sri Sayang on the edge of Batu Ferringhi, opposite the Shangri La Rasa Hotel, and couldn't believe our luck when we found this place was the restaurant for the block. It is amazing, in fact so good that we ate there 5 out of our 8 evenings, which is very unusual for us. The green mango salad is to die for, and I keep looking for it on other menus, but with no luck. We worked our way through the menu, enjoying every dish, whether Thai, Malaysian or western. The chef had trained for a year with a French Chef, and also spent time in Singapore, and had a real feel for everything he cooked. Presentation very attractive. Favourite dish - sous vide chicken with linguini and green curry sauce- fantastic. The prices were among the cheapest we found,as was the wine. Don't miss it! Cost about £6 to £12 a head for 2-3 courses without wine.

If restaurants were judged on food alone this would be up there with some of the best (and I would be rating it 5 stars). But they aren't. This is the canteen-style restaurant of Sri Sayang, a mid-range apartment block, with 3 star rental facilities, at one end of Batu Ferringhi. The surroundings are plastic and chrome. The place is usually three quarters empty, or has been the four times we were there. But the food: it simply blows you away! The chef, nicknamed 'spider' (because of his one-time prowess at basketball defence: arms everywhere), learned most of his trade in Singapore. When he talks about food he lights up. And when he cooks it, he takes flight. The menu is small, but carefully chosen. He has a special way of cooking chicken which is magical. Ask him about it. Better still, try it. Each evening he usually offers a special. We have had the lamb shank, and the short ribs, and both were outstandingly good. We take our own wine. As of February 2014, they don't charge corkage. As a chef, spider is much too good for his surroundings. But if you like modern Western-style food, and can create your own group ambience, this place is a bargain, and the food is outstanding.

All the other reviews are right. I've little to add to the other reports. Very tasty basicly French/European dishes and extremely good value. Don't wait to be fed up to the eyes with Nasi Goreng before you merely end up here. This restaurant is definately worth visiting because the chef has a deft touch and the food charming. (Can food be charming?)
I wish there was a bistro like this back home.
It's not difficult to find. About 3 or 4 hundred yards East of the Lone Pine Hotel and look for the sign on the opposite side of the road for the Sri Sayang tower complex. You can hardly see the restaurant from the road, so just walk up the access road to the main building and you quickly come across it. Quite unglamorous but pleasant enough. The waiting staff are delightful.
