“Relaxing beach location”
Reviewed August 25, 2013

This hotel is located on the beach along the north coast of Penang. It is along way from the airport and central city but ideal for a quiet relaxing beach holiday as a couple or for a family. The hotel has good amenities such as a large swimming pool, with kids pool and meditation pool as well as large grass area for sunbathing and tennis courts and gym for the actively minded. Staff are friendly and helpful with quick check in and check out. The buffet breakfast that was provided has a good selection of food that caters for many tastes.

The room had a nice view over the ocean and had a comfortable bed and large bathroom with a good sized shower area. A small balcony but adequate for a couple to sit outside and read and enjoy the view. The grounds were nicely landscaped with plants. Some nice eating places close to the hotel and an extensive night market just along the road with lots of shopping and eating places.

Room Tip: higher up facing the sea gives good views.

Dear GDBNanjing,

Thank you for your Trip Advisor’s posting. Indeed, we are about 30 minutes away from Georgetown city centre but we are much nearer to eco-zones such as Penang Spice Garden, Butterfly Farm, the new Escape outdoor theme-park or the Tropical Fruit Farm all easily accessible with a short drive or by excellent public transport with the bus stop just right in front of the resort.

Bayview Beach Resort is itself a wholesome family resort which caters to families with children enjoying our facilities and participating in the various activities available for children and adults. We served one of the best breakfast buffets with a wide range of options that has delighted many of our guests too.

We have received numerous compliments from other guests particularly enjoying the INDIVIDUAL BALCONY (like the one you so enjoyed) which we provide for each & every room here, a rather special feature that not all other hotels along Batu Ferringhi have. Our spacious and shady landscaped garden offers a perfect retreat for many of our guests and with the new children Play-Pool where we are gaining a reputation to be a great family hotel yet offer other couples space & peace in our Resort.

It was a pleasure to have been of service to you and we look forward to your return and enjoy our Resort once again.

This hotel could be considered as 'ageing gracefully'. The lobby is very large and well maintained. Our Hillside Superior room was clean, very spacious with the trademark enormous bed - plus an extra camp bed which we didn't need but it did demonstrate how large the rooms were. We made the mistake of staying over Eid(Hari Rayi) holidays when the hotel was 100% full. The staff coped very well with such a large crowd but next time we think we should research and choose a quieter time. The hotels shaded grounds and pool areas were excellent and there was easy access to the beach for water sports etc. The sea itself, as others have mentioned, is not the best but with such a large pool and separate children's pool its no big loss. Buffet breakfasts were varied and of surprisingly good quality. If you came early or late you stood a chance of getting an airy table overlooking the pool. During our stay it was difficult to get taxis or even use the overcrowded buses but we think this was solely due to the local holiday period and not typical of normal day to day business

Dear bel996,

Thank you for your positive endorsement of our clean rooms, staff and excellent breakfasts which is very much appreciated.

The resort which is built in the late 80s has mostly maintained its original design along with antique furniture, carvings and handicrafts speckled around the resort hence "the old world charm" as in your apt description of ageing gracefully. However, major areas of the Resort particularly our rooms have been upgraded, refreshed and renewed for our guests’ enjoyment over the years & recently. Our beds and spacious rooms are definitely building a fanciful reputation with the positive reviews of many satisfied guests and I am glad they have accommodated you comfortably.

I am pleased you endorsed our large pool compensated for the unpredictable sea water quality and the shaded large grounds served you well. Indeed, the Hari Raya public holidays coupled with the local school holidays was a very busy period for us and I am delighted our staff cope well as by and large we served many happy guests during this super peak period. Our staff is the key asset for us and they really make the difference in leaving a positive impression for our guests.

We look forward to welcoming you back for another enjoyable stay perhaps in a quieter period.

We stayed at Bayview for 3 nights:

Location: at the end of Batue ferringi beach line and very far from the airport and Penang bus station, very near to night market and restaurants you can go walking it’s very near. Outside the hotel directly there is a restaurant which serves very nice food and Shisha. There is also a mini market and a laundry and more.

Hotel: old hotel and old design, I did not like the colors and the decoration.

Rooms: we got rooms in the 9th floor with partial sea view, it was a nice view we can see the pool and the children water playground. Rooms are nice and well furnished. Bathroom is very nice with two places to shower; two people can shower at the same time one in the main shower place with a bath tub and one in the other shower room. I liked this aspect very much.

Pool: average but we enjoyed it

Gardens and playgrounds: average and old

Cafes and bars: nice food very old and boring decoration, they serve Shisha

Breakfast buffet: very good buffet with lots of food variations to serve all tastes. I liked the breakfast buffet.
Restaurants and seating areas: there are 3 main restaurants and three cafes and bars. Again: decoration and design of all places in the hotel is VERY OLD and not nice. Food serving is good.

Beach: very nice beach and the view were awesome! The best on Batu Ferringgi line. All water sports activate and horses riding are available. Be careful of jelly fishes when you swim at the sea. I liked the beach it’s the best aspect of this hotel.

Check in: they cut 300 RM deposit from our credit card for Fridge contents!!! This is the first time I face this process in a hotel! The exchange rate was very high and UNTIL NOW THEY DID NOT RETURN THE AMOUNT TO OUR CREDIT CARD ALTHOUGH WE DID NOT USE A THING! Although they cut the amount of the reservation before arrival to the hotel as per the booking policy, I am surprised of this process it’s very horrible and greedy!

Wi-Fi: horrible! They give you free access but it’s horrible everywhere in the hotel! They have a big problem and they know it but they do not do anything to fix it! I needed also to use the Desktop PCs in the business center and the internet was more horrible! The PCs were a SHAME old Win xp operating system, hanging and freezing all the time! No installed applications like PDF reader or Office!!!! I paid for 30 min. in the business center then I requested to get it back because it was a waste. The staff were friendly they gave me back the money and let me use a PC in one of the offices and let me print as much as I need. This was very nice from the hotel staff to compensate for me.

Staff: Friendly and Helpful

Value for Money: Expensive

I wonder what is the Trip Advisor Award for, I don't think this hotel deserves it!

After all we spent a nice time enjoying swimming and that's what we came for.

Dear FreeSyrianLady,

Thank you for your long and varied report regarding your recent stay with us and I am sorry our décor and style of the hotel did not meet up to your taste and expectations. As mentioned in many of our postings, the hotel is designed in the late 1980s and it has undergone numerous renovation & upgrade to keep the hotel well maintained, functional, clean and comfortable. I regret the decoration and colour did not meet up to your preference but I appreciate your feedback that you liked our nice well-furnished rooms, our nice buffet breakfast, nice food served at our outlets and that our staff are friendly and helpful. Thank you.

I wish to clarify that the RM300 deposit is actually a credit verification that is done by our front desk upon check in. This is actually a common practise in Malaysia. The amount verified by the hotel will be tagged by the bank but will still remain in the credit card holder’s account and will then be released back to the card holder account if no charge is submitted by the hotel. I can confirm we have not submit any charge for the Fridge’s unused items so your Bank should release the verification amount back to you. Please let us know if in fact your Bank has charged you the RM300 credit verification and if so, we will sort it with our Bank as we have not charged you for any unused items.

I apologise for the poor Wi-Fi service during our peak periods due to our limited bandwidth facing loading logjams caused by heavy simultaneous usage. At our business centre we basically provide 3 PCs for those guests who do not have their own Wi-Fi gadgets. As such, only an uncomplicated computer model without any software such as Office, PDF etc is used to prevent Malware & Virus infection since the PCs are for public access by multi-users. However, they are more than capable for ordinary browsing like checking emails, flight details and simple info search whilst disallowing flash animations and video streaming on the PC set. I am glad that my staff had provided you with exceptional service in helping you overcome the internet shortcoming that you met. Meanwhile, we are looking at options on providing better internet service notwithstanding that the solution rests largely on our current external internet service providers that have some connectivity problems for the Batu Ferringhi areas.

Thank you for your overall fair rating and I appreciate your input on areas we can improve upon and we look forward to welcoming you and in serving you better on your next visit.

This is our 3rd stay in Bayview Beach Resort which is our 1st choice of hotel to stay whenever we are in Penang. There is something for everyone in my family - well-equip gym; large swimming pool, meditation pool, private beach, and children's recreation room. The front service is excellent and the staff at the coffee house are superb in clearing the tables swiftly to prepare for the never ending guests during breakfast. The breakfast buffet is just great. However, should improve on the system to get towels from the swimming pool attendant. I was not aware that we have to get the tag hung at our room's door knob to get the towels as there was none at all in our room. Then, I had to go to the reception to get the tag. I feel, guests should not be made to go through such tedious experience, when in fact it was the fault of the hotel not to inform us on this procedure or even check to ensure that the tag is there in the room! Need to also improve on the maintenance service as our request to repair the lights at both dresser and entrance was not done until our departure!

Room Tip: Get the Family Room! Value for Money!

Dear HappyFamily20132013,

Thank you so much for your 3rd returned stay with us. I am delighted our staff have served you well and that you have enjoyed our breakfasts, hotel and facilities.

We have taken note of your comments over our system of dispensing pool towels and we apologise for the inconvenience caused. Appropriate action has been taken (reviewing our process) emphasising with the towel counter staff to be more accommodative and avoid any inconvenience to our guests. I know we can and will do better in the future.

It was a pleasure to have been of service to you and we thank you for your continuous support and patronage to make us your first choice hotel to stay in Penang. We look forward to welcoming you and your family on your 4th visit to the Bayview Beach Resort.

We arrived at hotel at 2pm and tried to check in, but reception staff said check in was 3pm even though our hotel voucher said 2pm. Reception staff said our family room was not ready for us and was told too have a seat for around 45 minutes, so at 2.45pm asked for update still not ready. Waited till 3.20pm and staff at reception gave us card for different room saying upgrading us to full seaview room so went up and found this room was fitted with two put up beds and superking in separate room, as our party was four adults this wasn't appropriate, so back to reception to see if our original ready and still not been cleaned. So eventually at 4pm got card for this room and could move in. Next morning we had a meeting with Rep and mentioned about check in so tried to contact duty manager but unfortunately busy with other guests. We went out to dinner that evening and returned to a large basket of fruit in room and a note to contact manager. Spoke duty manager next day about the issues at check in and as a good will gesture was credited 100 Ringgits to account.
Hotels rooms are dated and could do with modernising, breakfast is ok but very busy and some day's couldn't get tables for four.
Swimming pools are good and the new children's pool area looks very good, there are lots of sun loungers in gardens and snackbar food very good for snack.
Hotel reception staff at check out were brilliant as our transfer too airport didn't show up ontime and helped with calls to agent and eventually they turned up.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor room facing sea if possible.

Dear alians,

We apologise for the delayed check-in as the hotel was heavily booked on your day of arrival coinciding with the Hari Raya public holidays with some delayed check out of outgoing guests, hampering the availability of rooms booked by incoming guests. We appreciate that you accepted our gesture of apology with the RM100 credit and fruit basket for the inadvertent inconvenience caused in having you to wait for your room.

Despite the full house occupancy we had, I am glad you liked our main pool, new Play Pool, spacious garden with ample sun-loungers and the snacks we served. Delighted to hear that our Front Desk staff was brilliant in sorting out your transfer out. We look forward to welcoming you and your family back to enjoy our Resort, perhaps in a quieter period. Thank you.

The resort furniture is outdated.... a reminiscence of 1990's. Location is far from the airport and downtown. So, if you're looking for luxury or modern design with everything close by, this is not a place for you. However, the room is very spacey. We booked a family studio room for 4 of us and our daughter can run around freely inside the room. There is also a convenience store and restaurant in front of the premise, and Hard Rock Hotel with its restaurants is just next door. The premise is also close to the Spice garden and Butterfly garden. Breakfast selection is great. We always have something to try. Lots of choices from muesli to nasi lemak set. One suggestion: Can the restaurant change the coffee bean to a better quality beans, please?
Pool: Lovely pool (esp. the reflection pool where I can relax without being bothered by kids and teens!), they have also kiddie pool with sunscreen, which is great for kids and babies.
Water play ground is also entertaining for kids and tweens with slides, water guns, and water fountain. The only downside of it is "far" from kiddy pool, and I had to walk back and forth to keep an eye of my daughter while trying to introduce my 2nd one to kiddy swimming pool.

Room Tip: Room facing sea is quieter. Try not to go during the month of August as the hotel is filled with tou...

Dear lmalph12,

Thank you for your posting. Your comment on our “dated” look is more on the style of the hotel associated with a 1990 building, designed in the late 1980s that has a retro theme and complemented by the many antique fixture and fittings which can be seen around the hotel. The management has faithfully maintained the Resort “old world charms” appearance reflecting Penang’s heritage without compromising on guest comfort and service standards whilst offering our wide range facilities.

Indeed, we are about 30 minutes away from Georgetown city centre but we are much nearer to eco-zones such as Penang Spice Garden, Butterfly Farm which you have mentioned and the new Escape outdoor theme-park or the famous Balik Pulau durian orchards, easily accessible with a short drive or by excellent public transport with the bus stop just right in front of the resort.

I am glad you found our family suite spacious and comfortable and that you we served one of the best breakfast buffets with a wide range of options that has delighted many of our guests too. The Latin America Arabica coffee beans we used is from Bon Café, a reputable premium coffee supplier and I am sorry it did not suit your taste.

I am delighted that you and your family had enjoyed your recent stay with us which make us one of the most preferred resorts along the beach for family holidays.

we stayed at Bay View for 4 nights at the beginning of a two week trip to malaysia. It was the perfect rest and relax hotel . our room was spacious ,clean and while only a standard room our view was out towards the mountains and included an out look accross the sea. the buffet break was great , lots of variety and it was nice to sit on the verrandah to eat . the pool is large and the surrounds offer lots of areas, both grassed and paved to relax on . never a shortage of deck chairs. Its position , said to be out of the centre of batu Ferringhi was perfect . just a small 20min stroll into markets and food stalls either by beach or road. While we were a couple it is a perfect place for a family , many activities available and a great play pool for the kids. A pool bar for the big kids, and the beach fronts the hotel .
