I have just returned from a 2 week holiday in Malaysia and we stayed here for 6 days. It was one of the best hotels that I have stayed in, the pool was amazing and the surrounding gardens were kept beautifully, there was also a great atmosphere in the entire hotel. I also put on about 5 kilos as the breakfast was so nice....

The night market is right outside and there are lots of nice resturants close by, most of them were empty though as they are all so big.

There was also a good selection of cheap watersports on offer.

The staff were also very friendly and all spoke good English.

I would stay here again in a shot......

We stayed here for a week in early October. The whole family had a very relaxing stay. There were plenty of activites to keep the kids happy, they especially enjoyed the House Tour, where they were shown how the hotel runs, went into staff-rooms,baked cookies with the chefs (and were given a generous amount to keep), learnt how to fold towells, etc. They also did frame painting and key-ring painting in the kids room, which was very well run. Being 12 and 9, they could leave when they liked and meet us back at the pool. Free internet good in certain areas around the hotel, plus free computers too, if you purchased a drink in Cool Bananas restaurant. Staff always very helpful. We ate outside the resort mainly. For lunch, at Sunflower cafe-along the beach, very cheap only RM5 for chicken or seafood rice. Dinner was good at Long Beach Hawkers area, lots of cuisine to choose from there and delicious. Get your laundry done at Macey's Tailor, just down the road, a 2 minute walk, only RM 5 for 1 kg, a great service. Pools area great and lovely and warm!

Recently returned from a trip to Malaysia. Spent first four days relaxing at the Park Royal. Having read about the Park Royal on tripadvisor we were not disappointed when we arrived. The gardens, pool and beach are all pleasant; the staff friendly and helpful; and the hotel and room clean and tidy. Had a room with a partial sea view on the mosque side of the hotel. Having read about the mosque in other reviews we were somewhat apprehensive however after the first experience of a 05.30am call to prayer we got used to it.

There are a few good local restaurants in the area offering a variety of cuisines. The evening market offers the usual cheap tourist tat.

If you want a trip out I would recommend a taxi driver called Charlie Ooi. He usually waits at the hotel next door to the Park Royal. We hired him for the day and he took us to most of the main tourist spots. He speaks good English and was an excellent guide, telling us about the various temples, and other tourist attractions. It cost 220 ringits for the day; good value for money, we were out for about 7 hours. We told him we weren't interested in shopping malls/ markets/retail opportunities so he didnt take us to any. It got a little surreal whilst we were driving between tourist spots with Charlie providing us a music quiz as we went along. If you want to book him his number is 012- 4303577 or 016 - 4929933.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The hotel is in a great location in Batu Ferringhi with a great beach, great places to eat in the vicinity and the night markets along the main stretch. The hawker market just down the main road (towards the Shangri-La Golden Sands) is a fab place to eat in the evening and incredibly reasonable. The staff at the hotel were very helpful and friendly and made us feel very welcome. The gardens and pool area were lovely and watching the sun set from the garden is a must! There are bus stops really close to the hotel so it's easy and very cheap to get into Georgetown to explore a different side to the island. The only slight downside is that drinks are a little on the expensive side, but aside from that we had a great stay and would definitely this hotel. If we ever go back to Penang we'd stay here again!

Our first time to Penang and the hotel was generally ok but was quite expensive for grand deluxe seaview rooms which were not big or special in any way. Area around hotel pretty run down with limited selection of restaurants and nothing much else but footpath choking stalls with little of interest to sell.
Watch out for the water sport operation that the hotel has based on its premises, advertises but warns you against??? Our daughter wes injured, luckily not badly, when attempting to launch, with an instructor, for parasailing.
We had just come from Hua Hin in Thailand which we visit fairly often. As stated above there are generally superior and cheaper hotels, locations and general atmosphere at the better resorts in Thailand,
