Nice location for beach access and hotspots in Batu Ferringgi.
BAD : Hotel food and drink too expensive.A RM$40 wine cost RM$210++ in Tiffins Restaurant..

I was there for 9 nights in April. I come here every visit to MAlaysia (4x in last 6 yrs). The kids love the KOKONUT club- so friendly and safe to leave the kids there and so much for them to do. The staff in the hotel are great, smile and always there to help. Breakfast is fantastic- so much variety and fresh juices. There hotel is well located. Bus stop just outside to take you to any of the many shopping malls. Good taxi/car hire services available too just outside. The whole feel there is fantastic, Family rooms are great size, view from window beauiful. Grounds and pool are just so well kept and heavenly too. Both restarants- Kool Banana's and The Tamarind have a good variety to suite all taste budds. I can't wait to go back soon.
Shakeeb, Asif, Safia and Aadam highly recomend Park Royal Penang to all.

  • Liked — Family room was ideal for us, has a shower and bath tub
  • Disliked — was only there for 9 days and would have like longer-in other words- no problem at all

Just got back from Penang, I had a short holiday where I stayed for two nights. Booked the King Deluxe with coastal/ocean view. To be honest we never really spent much time in a room and the view was not great at all. Could only really see a Tennis court and the room had no balcony. But as I said we spent very little time in the room so if I was going back again I would just book a hillview room.

Really enjoyed this placed, staff where extremely friendly and the room was really nice. I loved the buffet breakfast, probably one of the best I have had and I have traveled around asia quite a bit. As noted by other posters prices are a bit steep for drinks and food, however Happy Hour between 5 and 7:30pm make it more affordable. Also if you like you can just walk along the beach and there are a few bars there that serve food and drink at very reasonable price! 9rm for a tiger beer, where you would pay 25rm in the hotel.

Would really recommend this place to others although it is a bit expensive for food/drinks, but I guess you have to expect that in all the hotels in this area.

I will definitely be back.

We went to Penang on holiday with friends last year and loved it! The hotel was absolutely gorgeous, we stayed in an ocean view side room but if you are overly bothered about spending lots of time looking out to the ocean then do pay extra for a room directly overlooking the ocean.

Great facilities, the pools were lovely and the staff are very helpful and always smiling. The main restaurant in the hotel is to die for, they have great international themed buffets most nights which are well worth the money. The cafe is great too, perfect for a late night snack by the pool. Do not pay for breakfast when booking with your travel agent as they rip you off. We got vouchers for very discounted breakfast in our room when we arrived.

Day Spa in the hotel is lovely but a bit expensive, they offer massage sessions out in the little huts by the pool too which are just as nice and about half the price if you aren't bothered about all the pampering (ie, cup of tea on arrival and music).

Hotel is close to all of the bustle of the night markets and is close to some really authentic and delicious restaurants. Jungle Trek and cooking classes organised for free by the hotel are great too, there is also a visiting palmist once a week who is great!

Will definately return there.

  • Liked — Standard of the hotel and the location
  • Disliked — Penang Beach where all of the hotels are located is disgusting water but we knew that.

We stayed four nights in April and as advised by T/Advisor we booked a sea facing room. This meant that we had a lovely view of the hotel grounds and the sea. Well worth the extra cost.
On our first morning the water in the shower was coming out brown. (They had been working on the plumbing that night.) When we reported it they offered to change our room and upgrade us. By the time the other room was ready the water had improved so we declined to move. Later that day they offered a further upgrade, but we were happy with our room so we declined again. The hotel seemed very keen to make amends for any problems.
The breakfast was really good, and the juice bar was a nice idea.
The pools were lovely and there were always plenty of sunbeds and shade.
The beach was nice for an early morning walk, but the jellyfish washed up on the shore meant no-one was tempted by the sea.
The night markets and hawker stalls are near the hotel and we ate for pennies at the Long Beach.
Georgetown was further away than I expected. It took about 45 minutes by bus, and wasn't much quicker by taxi, but if I went again I would still stay at Batu Ferringhi, as it was nice to have the beach and the pool.

  • Liked — Good breakfast, and view from room
  • Disliked — Music in the bar, although it did finish at midnight.

We were moved from the 1st room we had due to noise with internal renovations, but they upgraded us to a far supperior room with no questions asked. The room was checked regularly and things like towels and other bits and pieces were refreshed throughout the day. The hotel is very well located, amongst the night market and many food/restaurant places. the hotel pool is the best i've experienced, and backs onto the beach. Hotel staff couldnt do enough. The gym is ok, has most things, and the complementary spa/massage was a nice touch. This us where i would stay if i was going back. Well recommended !!!

Our family of six, parents and kids aged 15,13,9 and 7 stayed here for nine nights in April. When I made the booking I requested a Family room and another room interconnecting to fit us all in.I also requested non smoking, away from the mosque and away from the lift. When we arrived we were very dismayed to find we had a family room, smoking, next to the lift and the other room was miles away. At least our family room was away from the mosque. We were very upset and hastily went back to reception to try and sort it out.Once there we were advised that the room next to us would not be available until the next afternoon and that out teenage boys would be moved into that one.Okay, as one out of four is not to bad we decided to make the most of it.The only non smoking floor is the fifth floor and there were no rooms, the lift didn't seem to be too noisy and the boys didn't mind spending one night so far away. After a nights sleep everything seemed a little better and once the boys were next door we just went with it.We actually began to enjoy our stay very much. The hotel is really lovely and the pools are wonderful-very hard to leave in fact. The kids loved the water slide and my daughter wanted to go to kids club all the time. The staff there were lovely and made a real fuss over her.Breakfast was fabulous with a huge assortment of dishes.Housekeeping was excellent and cookies and clean towels are hard to beat at the end of the day.The beach is nice to walk along even if not to swim in and there are many activities at very cheap prices.Be selective though, as my daughter was nearly killed by a very incompetent parasail operation right out front. The boat took off sideways and dragged my seven year old underneath her 120kg father along the sand and into the water. It was horrific. She was incredibly lucky to receive only bruises and scratches but following an equally appalling landing, my husband was seriously grazed right up one leg and has yet to recover. There are no observers in the boats to warn when something goes wrong, so be warned. My husband is not easily put off and several days later found another much more professional operation further up the beach and had a very safe and enjoyable parasail. The hotel does warn about these activities though and are not responsible for them.We did enjoy the night markets right out front every night and the food court up the road is just fabulous. You just can't beat the whole experience and we dined there every night.Cool Bananas,at the Parkroyal, although pricey compared to the food stalls, does give huge serves of delicious food. The Nachos and Banana Splits were superb. We ended up enjoying ourselves so much that we stayed on another four nights and really hated to leave. We had suits made at Sparks tailors ,just up the road, which are fabulous.Nothing was too much trouble and we had four suits and two jackets made overnight in our choice of fabric and design. He was a wealth of information, very kind to the children and extremely honest.I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him.Everyone at Batu Ferringhi seems to be just as lovely and by the time we had to leave they were all like old friends. It was very sad to say goodbye. The only thing we didn't like was the smoking everywhere. If only smoking was restricted a little more this resort would be perfect. As it is , we just did our best to avoid it.We had a really great time and loved the Parkroyal after all ,and are now planning our next visit as we can't wait to return.

  • Liked — The great location, the pool, the night markets.
  • Disliked — Smoking everywhere.
