“We Enjoyed Our Stay At Holiday Inn !!!”
Reviewed January 7, 2014

We had booked 2 standard rooms for our trip, and had requested for inter-connecting rooms as we were travelling with children. As a Gold Priority Club member, I was upgraded but we were not given inter-connecting rooms. For convenience sake, I asked whether if we were not upgraded, can they still arrange inter-connecting rooms. Somehow, they pulled through and inter-connecting rooms were arranged for the upgraded rooms after some reshuffling – excellent at the start!

Holiday Inn Penang is located in Batu Ferringhi, and it is quite a drive from Georgetown especially during the weekend or school holidays. However, we did enjoy the beach and the swimming pool, as well as the gym. Parking was ok during the weekday, but extremely crowded during the weekend. The breakfast spread was good, and I would say better than some of the other Holiday Inns in Malaysia, and we did not have any problems finding a table for a party of 7. The rooms were clean and well-maintained, although you can see that the design and decoration are a little dated.

We found that other than a few places (one of which is McDonald's), there were hardly any restaurants that serve lunch (maybe we did not try hard enough). During the night, things are different. There are many street stalls, hawker centres and other small eateries operating. The nightly street market is also located just outside Holiday Inn. Overall, we had a wonderful time in Penang and we are glad that we stayed 4 nights at the Holiday Inn.

check in on 03 Jan 2014. With my family of four. booked the family room which was a huge room to me. Didn't know that Holiday Inn Penang has two towers, one near the hill, and one facing the sea. I got the one facing the hills. the staff were super nice to me which was very good. love my room, because the aircond is working very well, the space is huge with one queen bed and two single beds and one bathroom. Holiday Inn was the nearest family hotel to the Feringghi Night Market. Walking distance to many shops and restaurants. parking lot is free. for the guest staying in the hill view tower, you have to cross a sky bridge to the other side for breakfast. or in malay we call it "Jejantas". on the other tower you have all your hotel facilities, like pool and cafes. the breakfast place is so beautiful, i like the view and the smiley staffs. the spread is good but a bit cold. the pool is a bit small and u have a few problems with crow swimming and flying around the pool area. other than that, breakfast was amazing. and u can also easily access the beach area, which was good and the beach is also clean too. Next time i like to get the rooms facing the sea. love it..good times, will come back. Penang here we some :)

Room Tip: choose the one tower facing the sea.

Stayed for 2 nights in December. Lovely hotel with amazing front desk staff conveniently located at Batu Ferringhi. Great for people who love the beach, it is however far from town and the shopping/heritage area. Breakfast was also good with a fair spread of Asian and Western choices. Will definitely be back!

PS: Wifi does not work well in rooms - intermittent connection which was annoying to some extent.

I spent 2 nights in Georgetown and the 3rd at holiday inn. What a splendid sea view. Stayed at the tower block and the rooms were fantastic. The link bridge to the beach side is quite ok unless you are bringing seniors who can't walk up the staircase. Pool was quite crowed but my 4 year old son did enjoy himself in the baby pool. The adult pool is 3m deep at one end. So, please make sure you watch over young kids. If you are going for nice pool, this is definitely not the choice. Maybe because its peak season, hence the pool was very crowded and they set up a water polo section which takes up almost a third of the pool already. Overall, the view from the room and the breakfast were fantastic. However, coffee was cold. A value for money hotel.

Spent 6 nights at the Holiday Inn Penang over New Year, and whilst the hotel was acceptable there were a number of small niggling issues which mounted up over time.
1) On check in (late afternoon) we were told one room was ready on the 6th floor, but the second one was not. We took the room so we could change and go for a drink while waiting for the second room which became available about 1 hour later.
Picked up the key and went to the room, opened the door to be hit by the smell of stale smoke, on a “No smoking” floor!
Went back to reception to advise this room as not acceptable, so were moved to another room on the 4th floor. This room was OK, however we did notice the smoke alarm had tissue paper stuffed into all the vents, so obviously smoking in “No smoking rooms” is an issue here! We did report this to reception but nothing was done, so I removed it myself later.
2) Despite booking 2 double rooms, we actually finished up with 2 twin rooms. Not a major problem, but not what we booked.
3) The first room had complementary fruit in which was nice, but not the second. We did mention this to reception who said it would be sent up to us, but it never arrived.
4) The rooms in general were fine with a nice view of the pool and beach, however they were both looking a bit tired and in need of updating.
5) For a hotel with 350 rooms, so 700 people approx, I found it somewhat disappointing to see only approx 100 loungers around the pool / garden area, and only about 50 cushions to go with these. Just about all the loungers were very old, and some broken. So unless you were prepared to get down to the pool by around 9.30/10.00 latest there was very little chance of getting somewhere to sit. All the loungers by the pool had towels (but few bodies) on by 8.30.
6) Breakfast was a bit of a “bun fight”, and again unless you were early or late there was often a 10/15 min wait to be seated. Again, not enough tables for the size of the hotel.
7) There is one bar to service the pool, café, and lounge area, so it can often take a while to get served. On one occasion we waited almost 20mins just to get a drink.
To be honest we have stayed in worse places and on the whole this is not a bad hotel, but after a while small issues start to become bigger issues the more there are! The hotel is looking tired and in need of updating, and in general there are too many rooms for the facilities available.

We have just spent 10 nights at this resort and have to say its the best holiday we've had. The staff are amazingly friendly and cooperative. Housekeeping was second to none. Rooms were made up very quickly in the morning before we returned from breakfast. We had a room on the 22nd floor of the Tower which had great views and was really quiet at night. Being senior citizens we were really looked after with discounts etc. Our Christmas day and new year celebrations we had at the resort were fantastic value. The resort is a credit to the Management and staff.
