We spent three days at the Rasa Saying resort as part of our honeymoon, and have to say we thoroughly enjoyed it, so much so we really didn't want to leave! We found each member of staff to be so friendly and welcoming, a real home from home atmosphere. A special mention to Meliz who warmly welcomed us on check in, and who always had a friendly hello each time we met. Would definitely recommend staying in the Rasa wing if possible, the afternoon tea and evening cocktails with canapés are a lovely touch. Also, the night market with hawker stalls is a very short walk away.

This resort is spacious, tidy and very well run. All the staff have been amazing and the facilities are wonderful. The quality of food is excellent with the most extensive buffet breakfast I have ever had. The benefits of staying in the Rasa Wing are well worth paying a little extra for. The free shuttle bus makes travel to Georgetown quick and easy and there are great amenities (including the night market) just down the road.

Spent another week in the Rasa wing. Whilst this is not the most luxurious hotel there is something about it that keeps us coming back time after time.
Service is amazing - Catherine’s team at breakfast, Walters team in the lounge and Ranjit who fully deserves his recent promotion. Not to mention the great doormen and pool attendants.
Breakfast in the ferringhi grill is superb as are all the Rasa wing extras and the pool - but it is the people who make this hotel. Thank you for having us.

We stayed in the Garden Wing with our almost 2 year old for 6 nights in early November. Hotel was really lovely and staff are so friendly and good!

Positives
1. Rooms were sizeable, well stocked with fresh toiletries, towels, water, fruit and ice daily.
2. View was fabulous. Rain trees in garden are amazing
3. Breakfast was excellent- endless choice and pastries and juices were so so good!
4. Kids pool was perfect for toddlers. Adult pool fab. Plenty of sun loungers.
5. Kids play area in golden sands was great for a rainy day
6. Gym was great. Good equipment. Fresh chilled towels.
7. Staff were extremely friendly and courteous

Negatives
1. Not really within the hotels control but it rained for almost all the time we were there so when it was so wet- there were a lack of activities to do in hotel on a rainy day.
2. Lack of dispensers for chilled water by pool
3. Again not within hotels control but sea is not clean. Beach in front of hotel is kept clean.

When we were in the hotel. It was not fully occupied so felt nice and spacious. We never had to queue for breakfast or run down early to get a sun lounger. It was perfect!

The Shangri-La Rasa Sayang is definitely a 5 star property, great location and facilities. We stayed in an oceanview room on the 6th floor of the garden wing for 10 nights which was great. The pool and garden areas are vast and great for relaxation, strolling around. Next door at The Golden Sands is a free kids pool and play area with water slides that you can walk to in 2 mins. The beach was cleaner than those in Thailand and Bali. We never seen any jellyfish but there were a lot of warning signs on the beach.
The breakfast buffet, beach bar and nightly buffets are also fantastic, high quality and good value.

We had problems one night with the room lights and tv coming on during the night automatically at 3am, 4am & 5am, after complaining, this was resolved. We also had a Tuesday night event in the ballroom just below our room 1601, loud music kept us awake and we complained around midnight. On both nights staff were mildly apologetic, but we felt no real care.

Staff at reception were just ok, not the warmest of welcomes or check outs compared to the other Shangri-La resorts we're stayed at in Malaysia. To be honest, I think the lack of english skills resulted in some staff avoiding interaction,this was obvious. Reception staff in general seemed to lack knowledge of the local area and basic info about tours, bus services etc..

There were several staff who were engaging, friendly and helpful at the beach bar, restaurant and pool. However, we found many to be disengaged, preoccupied or just disinterested. Many did not even saying hello which was a bit awkward.

We had a great holiday and would have loved to give a 5 star review of this resort but the service fell just short on this occasion.
Shangri-La Tanjung Aru & Rasa Ria in Sabah, Borneo do the service element so much better.
