“perfect hotel...bliss”

Walking through the doors of this hotel, you instantly feel welcome and at ease. Sobry the doorman was lovely and always happy. The checkin was efficient and informative. The rooms are lovely and very well appointed. We had a 5th floor room with wonderful sea and garden views. Being in the Rasa wing certainly has its benefits, but rest assured the whole hotel in lovely, and nothing is ever too much trouble. The staff in the rasa lounge where you can have high tea and cocktails and canapes, are wonderful, thankyou, Mr chan and the rest of the team, you helped to make our holiday. The ferringhi grill is superb and the spice market has such choice of food to suit every taste. Super location on the beach and the gardens are beautiful. Well done to all concerned for making our holiday.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor to get great views.

Recently stayed at this hotel and could NOt find fault with it at all. It is very well situated on the end of the night market and approx half hour drive from georgetown which the hotel runs a complimentary shuttle service to and from. The hotel itself is very well kept with beautiful gardens and pool areas. It is clean and very well maintained. We stayed in the garden wing and under 16's are not allowed. This wing has a separate pool area which is so well run by lovely staff that simply cannot do enough for the guests and there is plenty of shade in which to relax! The bedroom was spacious and clean and we had a little private garden. The food is very good with lots of variety, everyone is catered for but my favourite was the Ferringhi Grill which is perfection! Also included in our package was cocktail evening which served copious amounts of alchohol and canapes overseen by the indomitable Mr Chan the end of each hard day was a very pleasant affair mixing with fellow travellers and being looked after so well. Nothing was too much trouble for anyone on behalf of the guests. Shangri-La you have my full attention as a hotel chain!

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Great accommodations and service, but unfortunately (or fortunately?) it could have been better. We couldn't stay in the Rasa Wing because it was closed in order for the hotel to update the electrical system in that wing. We were a bit disappointed because that was one of the reasons we chose the Shangri-La versus other hotels as we read the great reviews on TA. We were nonetheless put in a very nice room in the Garden Wing. I don't know what we were missing, but we were fine with the accommodations. The hallways were a bit stuffy, but we were fine since our rooms were not stuffy. We had a great view from our room balcony and we used the balcony on several occasions. The room was not overly spacious, but it was fine for us. Same with the bathroom.

The pool was nice. We enjoyed a foot massage while laying out poolside. The cost was only 90RM (approx. $30 USD). The pool felt a little overcrowded likely because the Rasa Wing pool was closed. It was a little hard to find a lounge chair, but we eventually found one. I've read that one of the features of the Rasa Wing pool is that there are no children allowed. That really wasn't that much of an issue for us. Yes, there were young kids, but not so many that it was a nuisance.

We had breakfast each morning in the Spice Market Cafe, which was nice. Not great food, but lots and lots of choices. We enjoyed the omlette station and the fresh fruit the most. We ate at the Spice Market Cafe two other times: the first day when we arrived late and we ordered from the Cafe for room service and our food was great; and we also ate lunch there one day, which was surprisingly bad. We were disappointed since our room service food was great. We ventured that the lunch chef is different from the dinner chef, but not sure. We also ate lunch at the poolside restaurant and bar, which was good. Prices weren't bad at either. We had hoped to eat at the Feringgi Grill but it too was closed for the electrical upgrade.

We also attended one of the cooking demonstrations at the Spice Market Cafe, which was great. The cook showed us how to make fish curry and we got to try it. It was a great learning experience, we got to try the food and we were able to chat with some of the other guests who were all so wonderful.

We patronized the Chi spa for a body massage. We requested a couple's room, but unfortunately weren't accommodated, again because of the electrical upgrade. A little disappointing, but the massage itself was great.

Guest services were great. What you'd expect from a five star hotel.

Altogether a great stay but could have been better if they weren't doing the electrical upgrade. Since that was just a bit of bad luck, we would definitely stay here again. Also, when walking the beach, we found out how far removed the Hark Rock hotel was from the other hotels in Batu Ferringhi.

FYI -- this has nothing to do with the hotel, but something we learned while there. Apparently the ocean water has high levels of e.coli so I wouldn't advise you swim in it. We walked the beach and sure enough, there was a point where what smelled like sewage was being spewed directly into the ocean water. Really unfortunate.

After thorough research on which hotel to stay at in Penang, I can confirm that we definitely made the right decision in picking the Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa.
We paid a little extra for a Garden Wing Sea View room, which I believe was a decision well made as the views from our room on the 7th floor truly were fantastic. We got to see the hotel gardens in all their glory both day and night as well as the sea in the distance.
The staff in the hotel are as friendly as they get, and are more than accommodating with any of your needs with a smile always on their faces. They made us feel relaxed for the whole duration of our stay and we never needed to ask for anything. The staff really do make this hotel very special.
The food was without doubt one of the best aspects of the holiday and we never had a bad meal. My partner was especially concerned as he has an allergy to gluten. When we checked-in to the hotel we informed the reception staff of this and they insured us that they would cater for this as much as they could. Going for breakfast on our first day was a delight when my partner was offered gluten free bread as soon as we sat down. From that point onwards they bent over backwards to make sure all meals we had within the hotel were suitable for him and they also went so far as to order in gluten free items especially for him.
My only negative comment was the problems with the beach whilst we were there. There were problems all along our coast of contamination to the sea from the local sewage plant. There was no mention of this to us by the hotel and we were only aware of the problem from reading the local paper each day. I’m guessing that nothing was mentioned by the hotel as the government made the decision to keep the beaches open even with the contamination. However the last few days we were there, a huge clean-up was underway and the levels of harmful bacteria had started to fall dramatically, so I’m sure it won’t be too much longer until it is back to its 100% beauty. However even with this contamination it didn’t stop a lot of other people using the beach and all the water sports that went with it.
Overall our holiday was one we will always remember and if we were to ever return to Penang we would have no hesitation in booking this same hotel again.
A full 5 stars from us both for Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa.

We booked this hotel based on the great reviews and were not disappointed. We took the advice of other reviews and opted to stay in the Rasa wing and I would definitely recommend doing this. We booked using Skoosh and got a good deal, our room had no balcony and faced the road but we decided this was fine as the other benefits of the Rasa wing made it the right choice. We also knew we wouldn't sit on the balcony. This room was cheaper than a standard room in the not so nice Garden wing. The grounds of the hotel are lovely,plenty of space and sun loungers. We had breakfast everyday in the Spice market rather than the restaurant in the Rasa wing (less choice & more formal).breakfast offer was great and good coffee. Best bit about the Rasa wing for us was the cocktails every night 5.30-7.00pm, we were sceptical about this...thinking would be local spirits etc but how wrong we were??!! Good wine on offer and sparkling as well as beers, cocktails and canapés. We elected to sit out the terrace every night for drinks so shorts could be warn. Drinks are plentiful. You also get afternoon tea included, was very nice, we only did this once as not really our thing. Hotel is in good location, quiet but restaurants and bars nearby. Again, based on reviews we ate at LongBeach food court nearby and loved the choice on offer,great value to. Hotel gym was also very good as was the massage at the Chi spa. Would definitely return here, Rasa Wing of course,and would also recommend the hotel to others.

Not having been to this part of the world before glad we decided to pick this hotel.we stopped in garden wing.everything about holiday was fantastic.the staff are so friendly,cannot do enough for you.weather beautiful.1st class hotel.breakfast is unbelievable, beautiful grounds,pools,I cannot say a bad thing about hotel.would highly recommend this hotel.don't waste your money booking into rasa wing,snobby people,stay with the genuine people who who enjoy what they get for their money.

We decided to upgrade to the Rasa Wing in the Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa and were really glad that we did.
We were really well looked after and nothing was too much trouble. The staff were excellent.
High tea in the afternoon and Canape's and cocktails in the evening went down very well and Mr Chan took care of us all. A very memorable time.

Room Tip: Deluxe rooms overlooking the gardens are lovely
