We were excited about our 'big' family overseas holiday after months of planning. We started off with 4 nights in Singapore, in order to take our boys to Legoland and Universal Studios. Our hotel was very comfortable and clean and we enjoyed our stay there.

On our arrival at our accomodation in Kuala Lumpar for 3 nights, which looked excellent online, we opened the door of our 2 bedrooom suite to be greeted with the smell of smoke, stained carpet, dark dingy furniture, a leak in the bathroom, a stain in the bath and dirty cutlery. We were so so disappointed and also nervous about what The Golden Sands would be like in Penang.

However, from the moment we walked into The Golden Sands lobby, and were ushered through to the cool room to check in, while we enjoyed a complimentary drink, we knew that we needn't have worried. The staff were exceedingly helpful, courteous and friendly and the surroundings comfortable and very well maintained. We took the lift up to the 4th floor. We had booked an executive suite with an interconnecting room for our 2 boys. Well, the excitement that followed when we checked out our accomodation would have been worthy of a video. The rooms were amazing - spacious, thoughtfully and beautifully decorated with all the amenities to ensure that our stay was extremely comfortable. Our boys thought they had died and gone to heaven and both my husband and I agreed that it was possibly the best room we had ever stayed in (and we have stayed in some amazing hotels around the world pre-kids!!)

The buffet breakfast every morning was delicious with a huge range of different cuisines. We ate dinner at both The Garden Terrace and the Sigi Bar and were impressed with the food in both.

The pools and their surroundings were fabulous, with activities such as water volleyball and basketball organised as well in the afternoons. We had a go on the segways, we played golf and tennis and the boys did paragliding on the beach, right in front of the hotel.
I enjoyed a relaxing massage and facial at the Chi Spa which was out of this world!
It was a perfect spot for town trips as well and we enjoyed strolling around the night markets which were right on our doorstep.

Our only regret was that we couldn't have stayed longer, but we do hope to return again! We thoroughly recommend The Golden Sands to other families and we'd like to thank the staff for making our holiday so memorable!!!

Room Tip: Pool and sea facing executive suite was spacious with a massive balcony from which to enjoy the view.

Excellent hotel, location prefect, food lovely, staff could not do enough to help. Too many unruly children was my only problem. They were running up and down the corridors screaming and shouting very early in the morning and very late at night. They also completely took over the pools despite the fact that there is a children only pool anyway! Excellent for families but would not recommend unless you don't mind children taking over.

Room was small and is in need of refurbishing
Breakfast was disappointing
Clear shortage of manpower especially in the restaurants during breakfast

My husband & I stayed here for our belated anniversary for 9 nights. We loved our room 350 on level 3 & had great views of sea, gardens & pools. It was kept clean daily with ample supplies of toiletries, towels & complimentary bottles of water. All the staff are genuinely friendly, happy & polite. We even had a gift of a cake & card waiting in our room. We loved the fact that there weren't a lot of bars around the place & most nightlife is centred around Gurney plaza way Loved it!
