The night markets are good fun and you get some good prices on the usual tourist items.
Plenty of t-shirts,polo shirts, watches, handbags, sunglasses etc to choose from.
I suggest a meal at the long beach food market then a stroll for a couple of hours should do .
Night Bazaar(market) and hawker centre close to all major hotels as expected
(except Bayview & Hard Rock).
I visited Penang over 20 years ago-beach was close to pristine-now a disgrace!
The Malaysian authorities need to stop the pollution & return the Pearl of the Orient to its
former glory -don't go to Penang if you want to swim in the ocean or do water sports off Batu Ferringhi-SAD ;(

During our visit to Penang in Dec 2012 we spent a couple of nights going to the night markets at Batu Ferringhi. We also had dinner twice at the Hawker Centre there which was excellent. One of my daughters (16 yo) said that the Pork buns from the "Bun Lady" (on the Right as you enter) were the best she had ever had..... and she would know!
The markets are really street stalls that line the main drag outside the big hotels. The quality of goods on offer seems good with the usual 'copy everything' available. We bought a few Copy watches, music CD's, Video DVD's and the girls bought an armfull of clothing. Prices are high so you need to bargain to get a good price but most Vendors were accomodating. We moved on from those that were fixed price after all, its a market not an upmarket store and there are plenty of places and products to choose from. It was an enjoyable night out in a good environment.

Variously called the Flea market or the Ferringhi(foreigner) market, its a treasure trove.Depending on your haggling skills,u can get memorablia at great rates compare to Georgetown.Starts around 6.30 to 7.00 in the evening, upto 9.30pm. Great place to browse and kill time.

It was amazing to see the street transformed. During the day just a footpath & at night a market!
So many stalls! We got some great bargains. A lot of stallholders ready to barter but a lot had their set price. We bought many gifts there.
We were staying at Park Royal so market was on our doorstep. We visited both nights we were there.
Only downfall was a lot of people walking through a very narrow area.
