“We had a wonderful family outing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 7, 2012

My family and I stayed at Hard Rock Hotel, Penang, Malaysia from Nov 3 to 5. The experience we had was beyond our expectations and it is so suitable for the whole family - from the 3 years old to the 60 years old, for romantic young couples, to groups of single people and so on . They had slides, a huge swimming pool partly filled with sand so you do not have to go to the beach but they have a nice beach too, Hard Rock cafe of course and not to forget the Hard Rock shop with good high quality attire and stuff. Highly recommended for familes.

Room Tip: Rooms from 101 to 108 are recommended if you want privacy and direct entry to the swimming pool with...

Room and bed are pretty small.

Walls at the room becomes moisture and at the edge of the walls dripping after taking a bath.
Complaint to the mainteance team and explaination is that it is suppose to be that way especially if we did open the room sliding door.

After complaining for 3 times, finaly the manager appears at our room and offerred a room downstairs facing the pool. Size of room is the same and it is noisy at night esp when there is a party or band playing. Nothing fantastic after the upgrade.

Breakfast was bad. Saw some guests complaining as well.

Poor customer service as the hotel is managed by mostly young adults whom doesn't know much of what customer service is all about.

Hard Rock always spells a good time and friendly service. Hard Rock Hotel Penang stayed true to its name when it came to their staff. Having endured a long drive from KL, being greeted at 12am by friendly faces was a warm welcoming sight. Now onto the good bits:

a) Location - great for a beach getaway, convenient if you have a car because Batu Feringghi is further away from downtown Penang. If you don't have a car, public transport is the only way to go. HRH Penang is located right smack in the middle of a long stretch of night markets (perfect for souvenir hunting).

b) Rooms - big spacious rooms, small bathrooms. Our bathroom did not drain properly but can be easily fixed with a call to housekeeping. The rooms sometimes look a tad bit bare because of its size and lots of empty space. Plus point - free wi-fi!

c) Room service - perfect. Wide selection of reasonably priced hot food and dessert late at night and on time tops the day!

d) Hotel Facilities - adequate and mostly great for children. I went during peak season and the hotel was completely filled and overrun with children. Most times in a hotel, you're able to find a quiet area but nope, if you were looking for a quiet holiday, HRH Penang during peak period is not the place for you.

e) Food - given the timing of the holiday, the breakfast area was incapable of handling the crowds. Long lines, food dropped on the floor and plenty of people fighting over chairs. It was quite a scene, much like a market and was frankly, quite shocking. The hotel needs to increase wait staff or cleaning staff to ensure plates are cleared and food is swept off the floor.

With a few improvements here and there, HRH Penang can score big time! Still had a fantastic and very satisfying holiday nonetheless!

Note: HRH Penang is built on a small, but long piece of land. So expect this HRH Penang to be smaller and much more cramp that many other ones around the world e.g. Bali.

After booking my reservation on-line, I was only able to print the so-called discount vouchers after a few complaints, which I can live with as my wife was not really impressed with the offers. While we expected to enjoy a leisurely peaceful holiday, it was not to be.
Firstly, we had confirmed our check-in to be at 3pm but apparently due to late check-out by previous guests, the room was not ready and we were directed to have some snacks while waiting. The refeshments were below expectations / standard that we would have liked.
Upon checking into our room, my boys were utterly disappointed as they could not use our PS3 (Playstation) as the television set was apparently not compatible. We have not experienced this in our stays at other great hotels.
Thirdly, we expected a peaceful holiday, but unfortunately we had some very noisy Arab guests on our floor (in fact 'over-flowing' with them, which out-of respect, my wife refrained me from complaining to the front-office. If it was during the day, I would have no issues, but they were creating such a raccous in the middle-of-the night with screaming of children and women, and slamming of doors.
Finally, I was utterly shocked and in disbelief to see guests fully clothed, some from head-to-toe in the childrens as well as adults pool. What happened to the SWIMWEAR only rule for swimming pools. I do not wish to discriminate here but, there were babies in diapers which explained the stink coming from the childrens pool which I suspect caused my boys to suffer severe food-poisoning on the last day from which they suffered for three days.
We have been to other great hotels and resorts which strictly enforce certain etiquette when it comes to swimming pools (children and adult) but were rather shocked and taken aback by this experience.
Although some of my friends had warned me that HRH is now 'run-down', I decided to proceed as my last stay at HRH in 2010 was a very pleasant one. I will definitely heed prior warnings in-future. It took me a while to consider updating my experience as I was expecting HRH to revert to me on my response to a post-survey but unfortunately have not heard from them.

However some positives from the holiday was the Hard Rock Cafe is still amazing and the staff were fantastic. I concluded that sometimes, its the kind of guests that you have which drags down the image of the hotel. No offence meant but I did not expect that this was 'their' season to holiday...lesson learnt!

My family checked in here when it was newly open. Everything has the new touch, we definitely love the new bed, mattress & the towels. Our room has a good view facing the big pool & the sea, it was splendid! We spend most our time either in the pool or at the beach. Massage & spa is available right next to the pool, my daughter & my husband seemed to have good time para- sailing & banana boating. Witnessing sun setting from the pool over a cocktail was simply fantastic. There are restaurants in the hotels still there are plenty right outside the hotel along the BT Ferringhi Rd stretch which serve nice, clean and cheap food. A very popular touristy hawker centre call Long beach. The stall selling all kind of pancake, is a must so is the stall selling fried spring rolls, yummy!

Room Tip: Ask for room facing the sea slightly away from the pool noise.

This is THE hotel to stay in if you're travelling with toddlers. The standard rooms are huge, ample space for a cot or extra space and still have space to walk around. The pool is a huge draw, food was great & inexpensive. Good service overall, v satisfied!

Location's a lil off though since its not near anywhere.

Room Tip: Choose rooms on high floor and with hillview if you've toddlers who need to sleep early. The ban...

Me and the family stayed over November 2 - 5, 2012 at the Hard Rock Hotel Penang. I purchased the package over groupon which I thought was a great deal. It came with a Seaview Deluxe room with King size bed + foot massage at the rock spa + breakfast for 2 and included an extra bed which came with breakfast for my son.

The hotel was surprisingly very appropriate for children even though it presented a hip image for young adults. From the teen room (which really catered to today's age range of 8 - 13), to the pool, to the number of children guest around, the kids felt very comfortable.

Loved the Rock Spa's cabana's facing the sea. It was so amazingly relaxing to have a massage outdoors in the cabana and its cheaper than having the massage in the spa. The packages appear reasonable, KL prices though.

We did manage to get the kids to join the children foam party which I thought was a tad bit over rated. In fact the shower curtain that was used to wash the foam away before they left the site attracted more kids. It was good fun though. The adult foam party starts at 7 pm and was like an outdoor disco floor, cool idea.

Breakfast was strangely dissapointing. The food laid out was cold. We could see the chef's desperately trying to reheat everything. The egg counter could not get their half boiled eggs right. It was either raw or over cooked. Might be a function of the number of staff and their experience.

Overall, it was a great stay! The Penang HRH certainly had very positive atmosphere all around and a cool place for kids.

Room Tip: Deluxe Seaview rooms next to the shaft can be noisy during weekends as the parties are usually held...
