My wife and I interrupted a two-month stay on campus in Hangzhou with a weekend in Qiandaohu. The Minghu hotel proved to be an excellent choice for western travelers like ourselves.
Here are a few tips to avoid confusion and misunderstanding. As of July 2012, the hotel does not accept foreign credit cards, so ours was a cash transaction. That means a small deposit, which is refunded when you check out. Secondly, the hotel has both a Western and a Chinese restaurant; only the Western restaurant is publicized, but I doubt it gets much business. It is your only shot at pasta, salad or steak in the entire area, however. We tried both restaurants, and were treated well at both, in spite of the constant language limitations.
The highlights of our stay were the unlimited English movies, the cleanliness of the modern rooms, and the service of the staff, who went to extraordinary lengths to please us and make us happy in Qiandaohu. Don't count on a concierge, lobby bar or other common western accoutrements, but you can count on a pleasant stay and unlimited friendliness.More
