Amazing house and gardens with something to be explored at every turn. Art, sculpture, dogs and cats, guinea fowl, chickens, horses, and more to be found throughout.

Beautiul setting. Mountainous backdrop. Lovely gardens and pool area. Welcomed with tea on arrival. Enigmatic host. Lovely freshly cooked breakfast served with flowers and sunshine.

Short 15 minute walk to town.

Try Jessica's restaurant - definitely on a par with the best Franschhoek has to offer.

Would defintely recommend Aasvoelkrans for an alternative experience.

If you are a lover of beauty, then do not miss this absolute gem!

This modern architect-designed house is crammed with flowers, animals, paintings, sculptures - to the extent that I spent hours just wandering around the beautiful garden and ensuite room, marvelling at the wonderful objects - from gorgeous hand embroidered linen, to fabulous crockery to the masses of different exotic flower, which even make their way onto your breakfast plate - the term B & B just doesn't do this sybaritic experience justice.

When I left, it stayed with me as the kind of house and lifestyle I would love to have for myself, and if you are in this gorgeously underrated part of the world - forget the Garden Route, do the Little Karoo - then please stay here - you owe it to yourself!

We stayed in Aasvoelkrans in April of 2008, and were delighted with the experience. Montagu is a quiet and beautiful historic town, and the Aasvoelkrans b&b in fact stands out a bit because it is stylishly modern. The individual units gave us enough privacy but had a wonderful view on the garden, and the I thought the hostess was great. The linens are beautiful, a little bottle of local muscadel is left in the room, and Jeanne is very helpful with dinner recommendations and reservations in town. I'd go back all the time except for the 20 hour flight from Canada! And I must say that hostess Jeanne handled the local electrical "load shedding", which took place during the breakfast hour, very well. I unreservedly recommend Aasvoelkrans to anyone travelling through this beautiful corner of the world.

Had the pleasure of staying at Aasvoelkrans five times now and this place deserves the many plaudits it receives.
Jeanne is a highly individual hostess but tends to treats people as she finds them but is very honest and that may put some people off!
Beautiful room set in a fantastic garden that has evolved wonderfully over time and is a wildlife sanctuary to both guinea fowl and Jeanne's fluffy chickens.
Huge pool that is just so relaxing for a swim.
Great location just out of town where you can walk into the many restaurants (recommend Jessicas and Four Oaks especially)
Great base for day trip to Jan Berger's tractor ride up the Langeberg or a river cruise and wine at Viljoensdrift.
One of our Cape superlatives as John Platter says about Cape wines!

Jeanne, the owner & host of this very individual & quirky B&B, was a bit of an enigma during our stay. While trying very hard to be a good host, the atmosphere around the house was constantly somewhat icy and uncomfortable. A bit like staying with your loved ones mother for the very first time - one tries very hard not to upset the host. Needless to say, this did not make for a very relaxed atmosphere. A shame really, since the initial contact when reserving the place was very friendly. A case of a Jekyll & Hide transformation?
Formally however, the place cannot be faulted. It is very thought- and tastefully decorated, adorned with fresh flowers, well designed. The family room, which we booked, is spacious (with a little outdoor kitchenette) and very private. The gardens are beautiful, the setting is magnificent if 10-15 minutes walk from the town center.
Sipping a glass of wine on the private terrace at night while admiring the southern hemisphere's star-filled sky and watching the moon rise is a very beautiful experience.
