We found Kingsna Lodge accidentally, while looking for an overnight stay in Montagu after a long day's travel on the R 62 from Oudtshoorn the same day. Almost at the end of Montagu's busy main road, the Lodge is a place of tranquility, from where the town´s fine restaurants and other amenities can easily be reached. We were very well received by the friendly owners and their most helpful staff and felt at home from the very first moment. Visitors will easily recognize that the house is kept in excellent shape with very much dedication by their owners. The house itself, all its interior parts and the wounderful garden with the embedded pool could be described as a masterpiece of Victorian type architecture. The owners take pride in their lodge, and obviously invest a great and sustained effort to maintain that charming establishment. Everybody with an interest in the history and culture of the country will inherently start to study the pictures on the walls, the books in the shelves and the many memorabilia on display upon entering Kingna Lodge. In summing up, our visit to Kingna Lodge was a highlight of our tour along the Garden Route and the R 62. We stayed in a very fine place and met two very fine people being our landlords. We wish to come back.

Stayed her for two nights over New Years. The lodge is absolutely idyllic with uniquely decorated rooms, cozy lounge areas, and a lovely, relaxing pool garden. The staff were very friendly and attentive as they sought to meet any need. John and Joy, the owners are very gracious and do everything they can to make feel at home. The included breakfast is tasty and generous and the lodge is in short, walking distance to Montagu's fine restaurants. John and Joy were very helpful in arranging bookings at local restaurants, even on short notice, and provided a wealth of information on the area and places to visit. I would heartily recommend the lodge as the perfect base for enjoying a trip to Montagu.

I could recommend that hotel to every biker. The owner is a bike enthusiast. However, we travelled by car any enjoyed the perfect service and our stay in that hotel nevertheless. Very friendly hosts, nice rooms and a good breakfast. All in all, good value for the money.

Would definitely recommend! Everything was perfect and very clean. Joy and John were very helpful and suggested our route back to Cape Town that was very scenic. Only wish we could have stayed longer.

Due to misjudging just how long the drive would take us to get from Franschhoek to Montagu, we arrived pretty late to Kingna, but it was so nice to arrive to such a warm welcome by John. As he showed us around the wonderful historic Guest House, he warned us that it was a busy Easter weekend in Montagu and we'd struggle to get into a restaurant. However he was straight on the phone and managed to get us into a lovely restaurant down the road.

Kingna Lodge itself is full of history and the rooms are large and full of character, we were in the honey moon suite and while the bathroom was a little old fashioned, it fitted in with the decor of the place and it was spotlessly clean. Out the back there is a lovely pool area and the breakfast spread was great too. But without a shadow of a doubt, it was John's friendliness, helpfulness and willingness to cater to our every wish and query that made the stay here so memorable, he really couldn’t do enough. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Kingna.

We were hugely impressed by the welcome, information and warmth of our hosts John and Joy. Our rooms were comfortable and different and unlike most others.

We stayed here on the final night of our two-week South Africa trip, before continuing along Route 62 to Cape Town via the winelands. This is a most delightful and charming B&B with very welcoming staff. Although the owners were not present in person, John phoned us on both arrival and departure to make sure that we were being well looked after – and we were. Excellent recommendation for dinner locally, a wide selection of hot and cold foods freshly prepared for breakfast, and a fabulous room, made sure that we ended our holiday on a high note.
