“Great food and service!”
Reviewed December 29, 2011

Piccol Tesero was one of a handful of eating places open last night (somewhat strange for this busy time of the year).
Food: no written menu, but Michelle explained the choices, which was fine. The flat bread with toppings which I ate was absolutely delicious, and my hubby had pasta which was quite tasty. We are vegetarians, and were catered for.
Alcohol/drinks: limited wine and drinks menu, but the wine prices were excellent.
Dessert: I had ice cream and Choc sauce, which was okay, but also reluctantly tasted a piece of the "chocolate salami", turned out to be awesome, highly recommended with some coffee. Look forward to authentic Italian desserts in future.
Ambience: we sat outside, was a bit windy but survived. Great music and ambience. There was one inside table available, but that seemed rather lonely!
Service: excellent. Was served by the owner Michelle, as well as by Anlie.

Cost: excellent, although it would be good to know this in advance!

They had just installed a pizza oven yesterday, so expect more choices in future.

Suggestions: would be nice to have a printed menu with prices, or a board displaying options at the entrance. Major dislike for me is the cash only payment, which was fine yesterday cos we happened to carry cash on us. Not usually the case.

Will definitely return there on a future visit!

“good as entertainment”
Reviewed December 17, 2011

To add to previous review: restaurant is on Italian theme but not cooked by an Italian. There was no menu to see just verbal explanation by lady owner and a very limited choice. The entertainer I mentioned was 11 year old son of the owners, Jady(?) who diligentlly offered to help by asking questions like: how many bottles of wine you guys (ie husband and I) would like?
The restaurant is now licenced

“Piccolo Tesoro - A real treasure”
Reviewed September 14, 2011

On a Friday evening walking along the deserted streets of the sleepy village of Montagu, we were beginning to despair of finding an eatery which would appeal to both of us. We spotted an Italian flag and entered the little quaint establishment. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming and we suddenly felt transported to a little village in Italy. Old traditional Italian songs were playing in the background and the few tables were all occupied except one. We took this to be a sign and were about to sit when we realised that the restaurant is not licenced and we had not brought any wine with us. One of the friendly locals kindly donated one of his bottles of wine and we sat down to a wonderful dinner. The dinner menu changes regularly and is quite small, yet utterly delicious. The pasta is handmade and the fresh ingredients can clearly be tasted in the sauces. We both ate crostini with a variety of toppings to start and we both had pasta with a sausage and fresh tomato sauce as main course. We ended the meal with coffee and choccolate salami. The service was good and it was nice to see the couple who own the restaurant coming to the tables for feedback on the meals. We so enjoyed our meal that we returned for lunch on the following day to taste the Spaghetti Carbonara which was really something special. If in Montagu I would definitely go back again. Anyone wanting to eat at Piccolo Tesoro should, however, phone ahead as they are not open every night of the week as they are more of a daytime establishment.
