“Gorgeous cottage, peaceful location, and the STARS!!!!”
Reviewed October 17, 2015 for a stay in October 2015

First of all, the owners very kindly allowed us to book for a time other than their usual week or weekend bookings, as we had work commitments which made it impossible for us to fit with the "norm".
We were delighted with the cottage, and the way it had been refurbished. Tasteful, comfortable and very cosy throughout. All the kitchen appliances looked new, and the bathroom was very well appointed with a shower cubicle and a separate bath.
The bedrooms were beautifully "dressed", and the walls of the whole building were so deep that any sound from outside was minimal, so sleeping was no problem. One minor niggle was that the mattresses (yes, we tried them all, like Goldilocks!) were quite a bit firmer than we're used to, but I'm sure it was good for us orthopaedically!
The hamlet is lovely, and very quiet. In fact, the noisiest neighbours were the cows in the field behind, which were a delight to watch while we waited for the kettle to boil or the toast to pop :-)
As the location is away from major towns, the skies were very clear of any light pollution, so stargazing from the picnic bench in the back garden is a MUST. Get yourself a mug of hot chocolate, wrap up, and get out there - we saw meteors, satellites and had a gloriously clear view of the Milky Way stretching right over the house to the horizon!
There's a pub just down the road which, apparently, does really good food - we didn't get that far this time, but hope to do so in the future, because we're definitely going to book again.
Underbarrow is central for a lot of great walking, and Orphan Crag Cottage is the perfect place to start from in the morning, and to return to at the end of an enjoyable day.
Book - you won't regret it!!
