“Excellent food, service, beer”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 22, 2014

Seven of us ate at The Punch Bowl and we all agreed it was a fantastic meal. Service was friendly and attentive and they offered to drive us back to where were staying a few miles away so we could enjoy the local ales on offer. Pool table and big TV in separate room which allows you to either enjoy those facilities or ignore them depending on your preference.

“Worth for a the trip”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 16, 2014

Arrived the pub at 12 noon on Saturday for lunch as heard that it can be busy. We had a table next to the big log fire place, very cosy. The selection of beer were very good with some local brewers.
The food was over expected but with little disappointment that did not spoil the day.
We ordered the seafood platter as starter, it was delicious, only downside were the whitebait were over crispy and salty. My Cajun chicken burger was tasty with a kick, the chips were crispy outside and soft inside. My husband had the pie, it was delicious with light pastry and tasty gravy and meats. Even the children portion was generous, we only ordered one to share by my 2 children under 5.
The pub give a very pleasant dinning experience. The waiters was very polite and professional.
Will definitely visit again sooner if their plan to offer a return home journey to all their customers successful as no need to worry about drink-drive and designated driver choice.

“Punchbowl on the "up"”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 15, 2014

Since our last visit in 2013 the Punchbowl has undergone a major development of its restaurant. A large, comfortable dining area has been added, with well-spaced tables and a nice ambience. Food was first class. Almost "best chips ever". Friendly, helpful staff. Would definitely add to list of "must go again". Also lots of outside seating for those warm, sunny days.
Only negative was a not-very-functional reception area, rather too mixxed up with people at the bar.

“perfect end to a days walking in the lakes”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 5, 2014

My wife and I spent the day walking in the lakes then visited the Punchbowl for dinner. The restaurant has recently been refurbished to an incredible standard and is a delightful place to sit and enjoy the first class food. Very friendly pub, great atmosphere and superb food. The owner is a very handsome chap and turned up in his pilots uniform which made the evening for my wife. We will definitely be back.

“Friendly pub with great food and interesting special events”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 22, 2014

Popped in to the pub early evening after a walk along Scout Scar. The fire was a welcome sight and the bar staff helpful and friendly. Our dog was welcomed (dog treats and all!) and the pub had a real buzz about it. While there we noticed advertisements for a wine tasting with food a few nights later - at £20 per head it looked like excellent value. So we booked and indeed had a brilliant evening - the wine and food were excellent, service relaxed but v efficient (it had to be given the number of courses!) and the place was packed with overwhelmingly friendly customers! The dining room added to the whole experience as it is a stunning room.
So we of course returned the next night for a quick dinner. Despite the fact we arrived only 10 minutes before service ended (which is at 9pm) we were again treated well with the staff being attentive but with no pressure to be quick. We therefore had another enjoyable (though more intimate!) evening with very good quality but unpretentious pub food with a bottle of wine for only £50 for two of us.
Next time we are in the South Lakes, we will most certainly pay another visit.
