As returnees we appreciated Trip Advisor warning re Starwood management. There must have been complaints because immediately on arrival the guest co ordinator informed us of the deleted services and in fairness offered them if we so wanted.
Everything was as perfect as before, however we missed the Bulgari bathroom products and incense candle holder, (were supplied on request), agree the lighting on the al fresco tables at night is inadequate, the menu at times a bit unimaginative and the spa and communal areas are getting a bit tired.
The staff are outstanding and the service impeccable. Now it may be the housekeeping staff are trained to engage in conversation with guests when in the room and possibly our stay was for a longer period of time BUT our cleaner overstepped the mark in familiarity and towards the end of our stay it felt he was stalking us; leaving notes, standing over us when on our private deck, knocking on our door on pretext to check things. in the end we put Do Not Disturb sign on to avoid him. we didnt complain as we didnt want the guy to lose his job but when you are having to hide from the housekeeping something is seriously wrong. Hence only 4 stars this time.
We will stay again because the privacy, location, pool (and archery) are exactly what we want but will explain that we either have a non English speaking housekeeping or they should not engage in conversation with us!

The place lives up to every word on its web site. In fact for a truly relaxing break it is hard to fault. The rooms are comfortable, the food is good and the staff are a joy. They seem to genuinely happy to have you there and to do all they can to make your stay carefree. V small downside - the place looks a little tired and the common areas lack ambiance. (but don't be put off by this we would still visit again) Maybe the new owners will address. They could also do with more light on the tables when dinning alfresco, one of the important senses when enjoying good food is sight. All in all a great break

What a wonderful experience. Night skies with thousands of stars, blissful beds, wonderful dawns. The food was fabulous, eating out on the terrace perfect. The staff couldn't have been nicer. A very special place. Expensive, but well worth the visit. Highly recommended.

Couldn't find fault with the resort at all over our 2 day stay. It was absolutely perfect and easily beat every other hotel I have stayed at.
Check-in/out was extremely smooth.
The bedouin suites are absolutely fantastic - from the decoration, ornaments, oil pastels, binoculars, quality of bed, bathroom, shower - the list is endless and I couldn't find fault with anything. Even the coffee machine was the best I'd ever seen in a hotel room! The plunge pool itself was a great added bonus. Waking up on the first morning and being presented with the most astonishing view of the sun rising in morning mist over the desert was enough to make me fall in love with this place. The memory of having a coffee while relaxing on the decking listening to the desert sounds will stay with me for a very long time.
We squeezed in 4 activities (archery, dune drive, falconry and sundowner camel ride). All were great fun and a very welcome break from the relaxation on offer at the resort.
I proposed to my partner on our dune dinner and it was the most romantic setting I could ever have hoped for. Our guide set up a large carpeted table area a good 10-minute drive from the resort in the middle of nowhere in the desert and we were left to our own devices to enjoy a most romantic meal under the stars. The food was wrapped in hot plates and it really was like having a picnic with michelin-star-quality food! After their takeover by Starwood, the resort initially said they don't offer the dune dinner anymore but were happy to make an exception for me - Starwood if you're reading this review you MUST continue to offer this as an option.
The quality of food on offer at the breakfast/lunch buffets was absolutely fantastic. All the little details were perfect!
We experienced dining at the main restaurant only once during our stay and again couldn't find fault with it. I have had far worse 5-course meals after spending £300 on a restaurant alone.
Even though it was reasonably expensive (we paid rougly £500/night) when I think about the whole experience it seems incredibly cheap. To get the qulity breakfast/lunch/dinner for two people daily, 2 activities every day and a fantastic suite at this price now seems like a fantastic deal and I can honestly never remember paying so much for a hotel without having any regrets whatsoever.
Finally the staff deserve a mention. Every single one of them was smiley and had a sincere quality unlike other 5* hotels I have experienced.
All in all I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a completely relaxing experience. We will certainly return in the future - though for us 2 nights was just perfect.

After an hours drive from Dubai airport we were welcomed at the door by Kristie with towels and a glass of juice, a calmness exudes from the lobby area and you are immediately made to feel at home. We were taken through procedures and then whisked off by a golf cart to our 'Bedouin tent' style villa for our stay, I have never had the experience of the room being better than the picture in a brochure but it's true it was!!!! absolutely delightful; the bed sheets and pillows were a 'thousand trillion' thread they were so soft!! the infinity pool warmed to your required temperature was a welcome relief from the journey and the room service provided the meal to curb our hunger pains until the eveing meal.
The service is excellant and the staff do whatever they can to help make your stay that much more enjoyable. A special thankyou to Mr Panni who lent us his telescope to star gaze the night sky.
The food is delicious and eating out on the terrace overlooking the sanctuary was heaven, albeit a little chilly but blankets are provided.
The inclusion of the 2 x excursions daily just make it the icing on the cake, from Camel riding in the desert sunset to Archery and Falconary, a pure deligh.Experienced and friendly guides take you through each new adventure, hitting the bulls eye is cause for a glass of celebratory champagne!!!
We saw the new year in with a gastronomic feast and dancing to the small hours with a competant duet.
This is a perfect place to have complete privacy or enjoy the company of other like minded people.
We left feeling rested and ready for the final part of our holiday a days retail therapy in Dubai, overnight stay and flight home to Blighty.
It's not your average Dubai holiday but one I'd highly recommend, twin it with the city for a contrast you won't be dissappointed.

Just after the New Year my wife and i bit the bullet and did one night at ' Al Maha '. Worth the money to see the desert, the dunes, ride camels and go dune bashing in 4 by 4's. Spa is lovely, villas well done, our private pool heated ( it gets chilly at night this time of year ), food very good and the staff ; including our ' field guide ' Hendric, knowledgeable and helpful. We passed on falconry ( the birds get up at 7:00am ) and riding ( their horses are spirited ex: racing stallions ) but the sunset camel ride was great and be sure not to have breakfast before the morning dune bashing. It is a lot of money but two ' events ' and all food are included. The resort is set in a nature reserve dedicated to bring back native species like the Oryx and Gazelles. While more than 11 years old and now run by Starwood, it is still a very special experience.
