The temple is known as Ksheera Ramalingeswara Swamy Temple.

It is one of the five powerful Shiva temples in Southern India that form the Pancharama Kshetram. The remaining four are: Somarama Temple in Bhimavaram; Draksharama Temple in Draksharamam; Kumararama Temple in Samalkota; and Amararama Temple in Amaravati, state of Andhra Pradesh.

The Moola Virat (lingam), can be seen from the windows of the Garbha Gudiall on all four sides. also The temple complex has many shrines, including: the Sun God (Kashi Vishweshwara), Goddess parvathi, Goddess Lakshmi, Nagareshwara Lingam, Dundi Vigneshwara, Veera Bhadra, Sapta Matruka, Kanaka Durga, Brahma, Saraswathi, Kumara Swamy, Kartikeya, Mahishasura Mardhini, Kala Bhairava, Naga sarpa, Nataraja, Dattatreya, Nageshwara, Shaneeshwara, Radha Krishna, Shankara.

Peddagoppuram is very beautiful and can be from many parts of the town.

Temple is located next to the bus stand, very near from the main highway. But the street is very busy with hackers, pedestrians and vehicle. Parking will be a problem near the temple. Be cautious about this.

This Pancharama Ksetra is in Palakollu very near to bus station. Nearest towns are Bhimavaram (20 kms) , Narasapur (25kms) and Rajahmundry (70 kms). This temple has the tallest tower (120 feet) in A.P. The Gosthani River flows through Palakollu and joins Godavari near Narasapur. This temple was constructed by the eastern Chalukya King Bhima in 9th century. According to legends, Lord Vishnu installed the milky white Shiva Lingam which was later worshipped by Lord Sri Rama. Hence the Lord is called Ramalingeswara. The Shivalingam is full of dents and scratches and it may be the oldest idol of Panchrama Lingas. When enquired, the priest told us that all Panchama Lingas bear the marks left by the mighty spear of Lord Kumara Swamy who broke the Atma Linga worn by Tarakasura into five pieces. Just beside the Shiva Lingam the idol of parvati is installed. On the left side of the main deity the shrines of Gokarneswara and Ganapati are seen. On the right side, the shrines of Subrahmanyeswara and Janardana Swamy are seen. . The temple prakara was built in 10th century and the gopuram in 14th century. In the center a big statue of Nandi is seen facing the Lord in the inner sanctum. The mandapam has 72 granite stone pillars with various shrines of gods and goddesses like Kashi Visweswara, Nagareswara,Surya, Brahma, Saraswati, Kanaka Durga, Parvati, Kala Bhairava, Sapta matrikas, Ganesha and Kumaraswamy. On the walls of the mandapam one can see beautiful painted frescos of various gods and legendary tales and episodes , a special attraction seen in this temple. The shrine of Astha Bhuja Lakshmi Narayana Swamy temple was built in 17th century. The surroundings of the temple are peaceful and serene and evoke a sense of devotion in the hearts of devotees.
