“Fabulous”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 14, 2014

This is a fabulous village in the desert.

Fabulous staff, fabulous accommodation, fabulous tranquillity, fabulous stars and moon when the lights are switched off.

Not a gastronomic delight but you go to the Village for tranquillity !

Thoroughly recommended but suggest that you book when there are no large Groups organised for the evening if you are looking for some tranquillity.

We stayed one night at Arabian Nights Village in early February. We started our excursion in Abu Dhabi, where we had been instructed (with quite specific instructions) to drive our rental car to the Roatana part of Khalifa Park (near the Grand Mosque). There is a big parking lot there where you can park free overnight.

We got on a bus and were driven out towards Al Ain, and then off the main highway into the desert. There are an incredible number of sand dunes out there, and camels wander about feely. They also have "forests" in the desert. These are patches of bushes, planted in rows, which are fenced off, so the camels don't eat them.

You turn off the paved road and drive on a graded sand road the rest of the way. When you reach the camp, it is actually a hotel laid out as individual buildings inside a fort. I was expecting a primitive Bedouin camp, but this place had running water, flush toilets, showers, even a swimming pool. There was no phone, TV or internet, but that was OK with me. Each circle of rooms had a fountain in the center that looked like a perpetually flowing well.

Activities start soon after arrival. I chose to go dune bashing. This is a group of 5 4X4 jeeps, which go as a mini caravan out into the dunes. It is like you're on a roller coaster that is skidding off the tracks. Many times I thought we were going to roll the vehicle, but our professional driver (from Pakistan) and the fact that the jeep can slide sideways on the sand, prevented us from rolling over. It was quite exciting and highly recommended.

Other activities could follow [very] quickly if you wanted to try them all. We opted for henna tattooing and just relaxing before dinner. The dates (and other fruit) in the room were delicious, and of course, our room was air conditioned. It also had windows, while the rooms that are tents do not have windows.

Dinner was a buffet with live musical entertainment. Because my partner has trouble getting up from low places (they seat you on cushions), she asked for a table, and they provided one for her. There are heaters at dinner, which were necessary when we were there, as it gets chilly, and our light jackets were not quite sufficient. Placement of the heaters could be improved, as they didn't take into account which way the light breezes were blowing. You have to pay for drinks at dinner. This is done by buying 20 dirham gold coins, and an optional [rental] Arabic sack to hold them. Any left over money and the sack can be turned back in for a refund before you leave.

The main entertainment was a belly dancer, and she was quite good. She even skillfully handled many of the crowd who jumped up to join the dancing. Most of the crowd left after the show, as they were only there for a day visit.

At night, I went outside to look at all the stars, but there was enough ambient light, that I didn't see as many stars as I thought I would.

After breakfast, we opted for some shopping at the small souk there, and swimming in the pool. The pool is multiple depths, and there are no markings of depth on the side of the pool. I mentioned this to management, so hopefully, it will be corrected. (The shallower part is on the right as you face the waterfall, if it hasn't been marked). I also mentioned to management about the cigarette butts which were lying around on various paths. Providing ash trays, or just cleaning up better would solve that small problem.

Our return to Abu Dhabi was via one of the 4X4 jeeps, since there were only 4 of us returning (as most of the group had returned by bus the previous evening). Our driver took us off road several times to check out the camels, and camel farm we were passing. He even made special efforts to get into a good position for picture taking.

I would try this excursion again, if I get a chance.

Fine, there was suppose to be no internet or TV and that was good as we didn't miss them. Staff are excellent and helpful, the pick up was great and the accommodation set-up both interesting, snug and nice.
When we went it wasn't very busy but i was told that they do get day trippers and things hot up a bit more with more things to do like buying things from the Souk.
Dinner was a hot and cold self-service thingy and the food was good as to be expected (Royal Catering, as on the crockery i recognized it).
During dinner there was a guy playing some background music and then the Belly Dancer was very good, (nice personality, etc).
The pool is very nice and we spent some time in it although it wasn't as sunny as usual. For our activity we went to the Camel Farm and the others opted for the desert Dune bashing stuff.
Two days would have been good too and of course the other guests were nice and that makes a difference..

Room Tip: These vary in style and you need to do the research first. I think that they are all equally quiet.

We went with company, Manager and staff welcomed us in the Microphone and waited for us with soft drinks, they were very polite, helpful, food was amazing, water and juices were available from time we arrived till we left the village, surprised with these numbers of people which were more than 300 persons, everything in village was very well organized, we enjoyed the stunning dune bashing, camel riding, henna and so much activities.

We had a great and lovely time, kids enjoyed a lot, many thanks to village's staff and especial thanks to Mr. Kasbo who I knew at the end of the day he is a manager in the village, he was around all the time, keep asking if we need anything and following every minor request, appreciate his kind help and his profesionality in work.

it was an excellent experience and sure will repeat it again.

When we arrived at the village, six or seven buses were already there. Nobody told a word about the organization, it was just "running to the SUv" or the camel to make the activity. We understood later that a special company event was tooking place this day. Some others people told us that they have been warned about that and decide to come even. Nobody told us nything and even after complaining, we got a very small apology.
The morning after the night was great because the extra people had left, The staff was much more relazed and friendly.
The room was really good.

We´ve spent just one night on our way from Dubai to Abu Dhabi. Easy and beautiful desert road to arrive there. We got the family tower room and that was simply amazing! The room is incredible: 2 floors very well decorated, confortable beds and with plenty of space. Below big room with a big bathroom. Loaded frigobar and welcoming fruits and dates.

Upstairs: 2 suites (with one queen bed in each one) and a small living room.

The place in the middle of nowhere has a landscape of indescribable beauty.

The dinner was very nice and the show also. Well served and with friendly staff. The only thing is that they could have a way to charge what people spend at room bill... We left room for dinner without wallet. We thought that everything was included or, if not, could be billed. After dinner and before the show starts (some minutes between one and another), staff was starting to say that the beer should be paid.... it was kind of inconvenient, as you don´t want to come back to your room when you are having a good time and you know that you are going to miss part of the show....

Breakfast is good.

They were a little bit confused about activities reservations. We had reservations for 3 quad bikes and arrived on time. A larger group arrived 1 minute before us and the hotel let them pass our turn. They didnt know how to explain why that happened and, in order to clear up the misunderstanding, gave us 5 more minutes at the bikes. We had fun with the kids at the dunes!

After that, we did sandboad, jumped at the pool and before check out we had time to a quickly camel riding (and again a group passed our turn and we had to protest as we had time to take our road to Abu Dhabi).

Despite of these "activities Schedule" problems, as I said, the place is amazing and it´s worth to spend a night!
