I am not really sure where to start! We went down to Alatoa to get some peace and quite while working in Moresby. This place was ideal. From the onset, we were greeted by friendly staff and looked after in every way.
After having a long discussion with their Captain extraordinaire 'Wesley' we decided an impromptu fishing trip was in order. We notified reception, in the early afternoon, and by morning they had organised everything for us. We went on a four day fishing trip and surprisingly, given the short notice we had given them, a very well organised one at that. We caught an abundance of Mackerel, Tuna (both bluefin and dogtooth) and 'samurai salmon'. It was THE best fishing I have ever done! Yes, it was a little bit expensive but after non-stop hits, it was well worthwhile. As avid spear-fishermen, they were able to cater for our needs in that regard too. We were lucky enough to go camping on several different islands (Basalaki, Deka Deka and Weitoa). What an amazing way to wake up every morning.
Upon our return, we were again greeted with smiles and the chef instantly went to task, preparing us an extravagant lunch with our catch.
I truly enjoyed every minute of my stay - thank you - it was the getaway I needed.

We (2 ladies) recently had 2 nights at Driftwood. It is a beautiful small resort set on the bay. We had a waterfront bungalow which had a large deck area - perfect for relaxing and seeing the sun go down. The sand in front of the bungalows is black volcanic sand, but the water is clean and clear. The restaurant area which is half way out on the jetty was lovely - great setting, great food, great staff.
We grew up in PNG and had an interest in Samarai and the surrounding islands, so we organized a 3 Island day trip through Jenny (the manager). Jenny organized a great day for us, we went to Sideia Island, Samarai Island, Kwato Island and Belasana and also had a snorkel at a magnificent little reef - these places are all very interesting due to the history of the region. Jeff Evenett was our guide and he and his family have been in Milne Bay for many years - so his knowledge of the region made this a very special day.
We were on an accommodation and meal package and it was excellent value. Our stay at Driftwood was too short - next time we will have a few more days to enjoy the ambience for longer.

Room Tip: The waterfront bungalows are beautiful

Had to spend some time in Alotau for business and Driftwood was the ideal place to stay. Waterfront views from the bungalow, restaurant over looking the bay, great food and friendly staff. It made me feel like I was in a different world away from the rat race in Australia..

Room Tip: Definitely book a room on the waterfront, the views are exceptional.

Thank you for your review. Even though we are only 5 minutes from the Town Centre, we want you to feel like you are away from it all - no TV's, just quiet relaxation, especially after working all day. We look forward to welcoming you again.

Not the first time to stay at this friendly little property just before you get into Alotau properly , but always a delight .

If you can get a room at the discounted rate this place is hard to beat . A bungalow over the water is a must with your own verandah and the waves sometime reaching up to it are a great way to get to sleep .

I like the cold beer and the generally the food is very good . So imagine my surprise when I decided to see how they would go with their offering of seafood laksa on the menu . Well I have travelled the world and eaten in some of the best joints in the world but I was absolutely stunned to find this sleepy little resort in a far flung corner of Papua New Guinea served me the best curry laksa I have ever tasted. Not easy to please , but this dish took my breath away , I am still getting over it . Laksa in Alotau ? You got to be kidding me !! But it was true . Aioni (goodbye ) and tinani (thank you)

Room Tip: You must be on the water-only place to be.Can be expensive so dont be afraid to ask for a discount .

We are so pleased you found our Laksa so enjoyable. We are a small resort with a small restaurant and our staff love to surprise our guests with the quality of the food. We would welcome you back anytime to sample some of our other seafood specialties.

In early November I stayed at Driftwood Resort for five days. The room was very comfortable with an excellent view. All staff provided great service. Meals were very good and service was excellent. Airport transfer driver was waiting when I arrived and nothing was too much trouble. I will be returning for another pleasant stay.

Took my Father here for a little father/son bonding with the hope of catching some real fish. Upon checkin we were greated with some big Papua New Guinean smiles and escorted to our rooms. On the second day we were offered a private charter which took in some of the best reef snorkeling we had ever encountered followed by an afternoon of catching the biggest Mackeral and Tuna I have ever caught. As a Father and son team we had an amazing time and will be sure to return.

Dear GSL34
We appreciate your excellent review on our Resort. It is great to hear that you very much enjoyed your stay here. Apart from the sea tours, we have now established other land tours such as village experience, bush hiking, bird watching and waterfalls; mountain trekking and cycling that exposes one to the splendor of this beautiful part of Papua New Guinea.
We look forward to seeing you back at Driftwood in the near future.

Kind Regards
